For people making this for the first time, you may want to only use 1 tablespoon of tahini, taste it, and then decide if you want more or not. Too much will make it taste bitter/sour.
@rxmusic1 : We know folks who have but we have never used it so really can't tell you if there is a difference in flavor or texture. If you do try it, pl. let us know how it worked out :)
Everyone has his own version of dishes, whatever tastes good is right for you... But PLEASE! - YOU ARE NOT GONNA GET FAT FROM ANOTHER TABLESPOON OF OIL! - It's an insult to make food that comes from a region of the world recognized as having a very healthy diet and imposing on it silly American values of calorie counting and fat percentegas. This isn't pig-fat or butter your'e talking about, it's olive oil and sesame paste! Make your food tasty and enjoy it!
@babanaglis dude did they even put garlic. i dont think they did. idians desgraved us midelleasterners and why are the Indians doing this recipe in the first place? lol

I thought this was a cooking show not a terrorist show Hamas come on... I'm sure everyone has heard that joke but still funny. Alot of the ingedients can also be found in Vegetarian stores.
erm can some one please help me ????, i just made this, using your video, and i can taste too much tahini : ( , any ideas how to cut the taste of tahini , btw tahini is seasame pase - to all who dont undersand . . . . .. , please reply somebody, i put extra chick peas, but its only cut out half the taste, and it still taste like tahini : (
dear girls, at this point your regular viewers are interested in your private life too. don't freak out, it's completely natural, considering, that you are celebrities now. :0) cheers.
Tahini is just sesame seeds and olive oil. Since you are using a food processor anyway, couldn't you just toast sesame seeds in a skillet or in the oven and then just use that directly and just adjust the olive oil?
In the US, sesame seeds can be found in little packets from the Badia line starting at 50 cents a pop, and you wouldn't be paying extra for the word "tahini" on the label or the name of the store.
if you tried that i think you would just end up with whole or cracked sesame seeds in your hummus, i don't think a food processor will give you the same smooth result, tahini is usually stone ground. that being said however i think toasted sesame seeds in hummus might be yummy anyways.
If you are that picky about texture, then couldn't they be put through a coffee grinder first? Hummus is a course paste anyway, so I don't see that it would matter, idea of tahini is to provide a sesame taste.
Once I made tahini for a baba ganoush, and I ground roasted sesame in a mortar and pestle. I avoid blade with spices, like when I make garam masala, but here they are using a processor for hummus, so there is no need to be so picky with the sesame.
Perhaps a Q&A segment could be introduced so some questions can be answered briefly in video form like once every month or so. Videos such as these ShowMeTheCurry ones have been sooo educational. Chances are that if one person has the question, many more may as well and all can benefit.
Ain't that the truth!!!! Very educational, but the more I learn the more questions I have (and that I notice are missing)
I have come up with a question about maida. They have said that maida is all- purpose flour, but my "research" would imply that it is finer than regular all-purpose flour, so would what is called "cake flour" in the US, be closer to what maida is supposed to be?
Also, a few things that are missing that I expect on an Indian site. Vindaloo, Naan jalebis from scratch.
You guys don't have low-fat tahini over there? Here in the UK you can get low-fat tahini - it's just as tasty and it's pretty much "hah! I'm not feeling guilty now!" A great way to serve this is with paprika stirred into it and then with some paprika sprinkled on top, with a lemon wedge to squeeze over.
i love to eat Hummus :)

its an heresy to use canned chick peas!
use fresh one and boil them with soda power. Tip from the middle east

You are absolutely right! We were just offering a quick shortcut, but if you have the time, soaking and boiling is the best way.

@babanaglis interesting. i tried both and there was absolutely zero difference.

against making dishes that are not from your country. My dad is from the Middle East
and I tried his Hummus and Hetal and Anuja's to me they tasted the SAME.And
thats not how u spell Indians!!

A Tip: I save the liquid from the can, so instead of water I add the liquid. It gives you a rich flavor and a creamer consistancy. Try it

A trick I do on a new jar of tahini is turn it upside down for a while, ideally the day before you begin to use it.
