I think you would want to apply the PH spray before applying the barrier cream. If you apply barrier cream, then the PH spray and have your client "rub it in", their barrier-cream coated hands will spread the barrier cream all over and that would be a mistake.

Please tell me this was a mistake, right?

Yeah. I've since bought the whole professional system, and become certified. The video above was incorrect as I noted. When done right, the Norvell spray tan solutions and system give an incredibly realistic tan (actually better than from the sun) for my clients and my own daughter whom I apply it to. But - you have to know and advise your clients how to prepare their skin and how to care for it following the spray tan, otherwise it can turn out badly.
