well we portugueses maybe started the major part of racism with the slaves in the 17th century when we travelled the world which anyone had ever been there and started the slavery
I think slavery started long before the 17th Century Portuguese. In Africa itself, and almost everywhere else, the loser tribe in a war would be taken as slaves. Maybe the perception among Europeans of Black Africans being slaves had its early days in the 17th Century. Racism is a form of classism, or is mostly classism. In a society, the wealthy & powerful tend to see the poor & powerless as inherently inferior people (though often the wealth & power was achieved through brutality).
Post#1: What the hell is this saying? We ALL know we shouldn't be "racist", shouldn't hate etc. But these exhortations haven't cured anything. For example, if the labour market is flooded with East Indians, of course we're going to be "racist" against them. And there's nothing wrong with East Indian people. Or with another other kind of people. But it's foolish simply to say "Don't be racist." Or if I utter a complaint about them immigrating, I'm "racist". [Continued next Post#2]
