The problem is not radical Islam. If we judge Islam by the Quran and the Quran only, then the problem is fundamental Islam. I am not a xenophobe, one of my flight instructors (who became a friend of mine) was a Muslim from the Middle East. I do not have a problem with others having their own religion, but when that religion calls for the domination of others and threatens usurping with its own law (as is the stated purpose of many Islamic organizations), that is a problem.

Our own nationalistic hatred would boil up and unsavory elements of our population would retaliate regardless of government sanction. Pretending other countries would act differently is a blunt denial. Pretending we corner the market on morality is laughable.

I guess you missed Saddam's actions against Kuwait, Israel, and genecide against his own people with chemical weapons. This madman oversaw a very large and powerful army, and I think that was more of a concern to the UN in issuing sanctions than the fact that he was a Muslim. Your morality argument is way off base.

No, I did not miss Saddam's actions. I also did not miss that we created the perfect recipe to ferment his rise to power in the beginning.
We do not bear responsibility for the world's actions. We have a military to protect us, not engage ourselves in every conflict where we perceive a "good guy" and a "bad guy". It is unlikely that would make said countries buy into our democracy rhetoric.

I would add that no terrorism is justified. The solution is obviously to punish and attack those responsible. Traditionally this has been handled with declaration of war against the nation involved.
But really. Osama was at one time an operative in our own employ, Saddam was installed by us. Are we really so blind as to not see how this might have had SOME effect on the current situation??!@!?

For more than a decade we have been overtly using force and violence to "spread liberty". This is costly to the American people, and a prime motivating factor for foreign resentment.

We won in Japan because we followed the correct Constitutional approach with a congressional declaration of war and fully committed the entire country and military to a well defined target.
We did not do that in Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan and Iraq, not to mention miscellaneous other "conflicts".
We did that in both World Wars.

The primary difference is that a "Declaration of War" by congress specifically names a nation target. What we have now is a "War On Terror". Terrorism is a nebulous term that has now been used together with questionable assertions to attack the ideal target of the moment, relying on "for or against" rhetoric to bully congress into funding decisions.
