I wouldn't go hating on an artist because of it though. As long as you can acknowledge where you got your sample from, and not copy off someone else's work completely (eg. taking a videogame midi, adding a drumtrack and calling it a remix).
I mainly dislike deamau5 for his attitude towards other artists, and to videos such as this one. I honestly don't give two shits about who ripped off who, as long as the artists (or the commenters in general) don't chuck a tantrum over it.
This happens a lot in music, if you hear all the different 90s songs using the riff from Maxx - Getaway (there's an example on my channel). A lot of people sample others' work, Lapfox Trax is another good example.
I will agree with you though, deadmau5 is kind of an overrated douche.
I love that both Little Bitchard & deadmau5 directly commented on this video. This is one of the rare cases where the comments on a video are more awesome than the video itself....
I am very disapointed as this song was one of my favourites of Deadmau5. It is understandable that different songs may use same chords but FML's melody is definitely same as Protozoa's. Althought this may not be conscious plaginarism as top artists really listen to all possible music matching their own genre. Maybe Deadmau5 just thought he invented a good melody while the "invention" was just a memory from his subconcious.
dude do you realize how much of music today is just ripped from other shit? not everything is going to sound 100 percent unique, there is always going to be pieces of music that sounds like or is nearly the same as another, but its still in a new form and makes one part of a whole song much better
omg this is so fucking stupid. do you know how many people have ripped his shit off? and hes not even ripping this song off. the pitch shift basically made it his own beat/sound. its not anything like the original....unless you pitch shift. stupid. and the mau5 still pwns.
Of course it is easy for a mainstream artist to just "sample" songs that are quite unknown or underground and then claim the melody is his/her. Anyway, deadmau five's music just another example of mainstream crap nowadays.

concerning the 'who cares', just imagine a coworker stealing 3 pages from one of your reports and takes all credit for it. and the boss pays him 4x more than you, if you still dont care i'd advice to cut back on the prozac ;P
"but i guess you can mod anything enough to sound like anything else..."
That's pretty disrespectful.. it's clearly the same bassline and melody and a shame that deadmau5 doesn't acknowledge that he owes some of the success of his track to kewlers.
But it's not too late, he still acknowledge it and prove himself to be above Timbaland.. Go dude :)
I love all the people saying how pathetic deadmau5 is for possibly sampling a very tiny part of a song. Is everyone forgetting that Daft Punk, one of the biggest acts in the genre, samples almost everything? Every song on Discovery has at least one sample in it, and its not always credited. Yet I don't see people saying "Daft Punk are plagiarizing losers that can't make original music to save their lives"
Its not plagiarism if you EDIT the sample to make it plagiarism! O.o its just the same progression, and both are played in vastly different contexts... if that were plagiarism, then so would be more than half of iTunes...
well this is interesting. I still think that part of FML is the worst part of the song anyway. Real plagiarism is what Jet did to Iggy Pop Lust for Life. Biggest rip off ever.
WAIT THAT DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT. Let me change the song so it does sound right.
Also, I find it incredibly hilarious that mixmag is covering this when it's clearly just a blatant advertisement for whatever the fuck "shS83" is plugging.
Wait, give me time so I can show you how shS83 has plagiarized every song he's ever made by changing the pitch, tempo, and singling out a 4 second sample from each song.
this is the saddest excuse.... funnily enough, i know and respect kewlers work, (tho i havent heard much of this lil bitchard guy) sounds cooll 2... but sure... does sound like... if you change the key, timbbre, and pitch....) but i guess you can mod anything enough to sound like anything else...
know what "plagiarism" is before you even bother imho.
Joel, shut up! You for real? I've been listening to the Kewlers song for about 20min now and it's clear that you've copied their work. They're pretty underground, and you thought you could get away with putting this in FML. Just like you did with that video of yours "2009 in 4 minutes." where you took the piano bit from "Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs" - I don't think anyone has listened to a Tiesto song or a Buuren song and thought "Hmm where have I heard this before?"
@deadmau5 First off, Little Bitchard is my absolute favourite artist. Secondly, plagiarism is just despicable. But you know what? I don't know if you stole that sound bite or sampled it and I don't care. It was a three second clip. It's not that big a deal. Why don't these people go after someone who deserves it? Like Timbaland for ripping off Acidjazzed Evening.
Deadmau5 sucks anyway. I've never heard anything more generic and re-creatable in my life. It takes about 2 hours to remake a track of his on FL Studios 8.
if that's the only similarity, then who gives a shit? it's just some hook, and he didn't sample it directly from the song, he just remade it, and changed it a bit. it's just inspiration
Exactly how many huge top 40 hits get famous for smapling a decent song and ruining it. Like Black Eyed Peas Pump It which is Miserlou with them singing rapping whateva on top of it.
I agree, those songs steal and make it the MAIN part of thier song, and it gets to the charts. FML isn't that popular, and only that riff seems to be only unoriginal part of it. Black Eyed Peas clearly is doing more stealing than Deadmau5, wouldn't you agree?
Some similarity yes, but the melodies are not completely the same: the 3rd last note is of a different pitch (higher) in Deadmau5 track. Besides, the context is totally different.
Sadly it's not new for mainstream artists to rip of ideas and samples from other music. It's really not fair to take credit for something which was made by other people.
Well, a least my respects are with the original artist, even in mainstream music when someone makes a cover of an old song.
i wonder how hes gonna act, hopefully not like timbaland who never admitted he stole chiptune-stuff from tempest (v=M4KX7SkDe4Q).
i hope artists like tempest and little bitchard can at least still see the very little positive part about it: that their music rocks hard enuff to be stolen by mainstream artists
The only reason I'm not approving your video response is that Deadmau5 himself doesn't deny that he takes things from other artists, from time to time.
Clockwork? He made that off of a theme that's been around for hundreds of years.
I can see where you're trying to claim 'plagiarization'

To avoid any future complaint/remark, the bassdrum in the soundtrack of the Fermion demo by Kewlers comes from a samplepack CD by Deadmau5 :)

Im pretty sure both melodies come from some Japanese song I don't care to look up.
