They sell kits to do that, there is not enough room inside to do with standard ic chips unless you get rid of your umd drive guts. They also sell kits to make the led's sound sensitive as well. :-)

You can build the Knight rider circuit with a 555 timer (or NAND chip), some discrete components to setup timing, a 4017 Decade counter, & some LEDs. Just Google "Knight Rider LED schematic". Cool idea to put it in a PSP, looks sharp!
