Well its 2011 now and just a couple of days ago I made another update to this pollution saga in Coffs Harbour. And you guessed it it hasn't changed one bit.
The mangroves are full of rubbish as are streets. Its not just one area but sections all around the town. Even some of the schools are starting to look a little like tips.
I moved to Coffs from melbourne two years ago and it has been an eye opener. My house is in a "Cheap street" and when the council was aproached by the local paper about removing the play equipment from behind my house for the kids there response was " we sent out letters to the rate payers, but there are none in that street. I pay rates and you sold me a house in that street!! Where was my letter. I have had my car broken into withen a week of being here when i lived in Korora.
The council needs to put rubbish traps in more places so it doesn't ruin the eco system. Most people don't bother to walk around so they don't see the damage done.
Coffs Harbour is a great place and its only being ruined because its not being looked after by some of the people and Coffs Harbour City Council. There's a lot more they can do to at least keep the town tidier. Today I walked around the creek walk and in between the mangroves rubbish was floating everywhere. This has never changed in the five years I’ve been here.
If you ask me, coffs has it all And theres people that are ruining its beauty, as rude and controversial as it will sound the 'scum' need to be cleaned up from park beach Lets hope the prices rise and theyre shipped out to where they belong If you cant afford it bugger off and ruin some other town and leave ours for people that appreciate it.
It is a problem that is based on personal choice At school the children are taught extensively to pick up their rubbish I never found a lack of bins or need to search for a bin in coffs harbour
Notice you said Park Beach Plaza area? Yeh well thats because that is a significantly low socioeconomic area. Ask anyone that lives in coffs. All surrounding park beach is disgusting. I wouldnt live there not walk around there. But, you travel over the macauleys hill, into diggers, its a different story. There is next to no rubbish there. It is just obvious that people that have behavioural problems and socioeconomic problems will treat the area they live in and people with the same disrespect.
Ive lived in a few places over NSW and Qld, and travelled to many others, coffs is by far the most beautiful town ive ever lived and travel back every 3 or 4 weeks. We have taken friends to visit and they are amazed by the beaches and breathtaking views. Yes there is rubbish, but there are bins provided everywhere. As a respecting citizen no matter where i live i always have put rubbish in bins or taken it with me.
watts the point of lobby with council .its the people doing the polluting.look at the type of rubbish, mostly takeaway shit food eaten by sick people .eat shitfood and you get shit behaviour.council in coffsharbour not so long ago built an ocean outfall another example of out of site out of mind.coffsharbour is becoming a big shit hole not unlike any other city were growth and development by council is an obsession.wake up people!
moved to Coffs from New Zealand and yes its a shock!!! dont know where to begin, its shocking, I work in Forestry and even in the Middle of no where its still polluted. the parks and reserves are shocking, sorry but its true
For people living in Coffs Harbour and if you care about your town then you need to lobby your local council over these important issues as the level of pollution in the arterial creeks around the town and especially around the Park Beach Plaza area have become excessively bad. And unless you get out of your cars and actually walk around the creek systems youll never see it.

I have to agree... Coffs Harbour is getting pretty grubby, it's a real shame.
