John Stewart is a vastly underrated song writer. This song evokes great memories of the summer of '79. My summer job was in a steel mill and after I'd get off at midnight I'd drive home with my windows down (no A/C) and this song would invariably be playing. 32 years ago. Makes me feel ancient.

For the longest time when I hear this song, I would think of James Dean, Roy Orbinson, and Jonny Cash holding his rifle in the backseat singing this song traveling down the backroads in a black 57' Chevy.

I think of wood stoves, burnt oil, leather jackets, and a fast black car.

No color...only black and white scenes.

@iwggwt I'm guessing that it just sounds too 70's. to bad they captured that moment so well. As a DJ i can understand because what would a radio station play next? unless their going to bring back Cat Stevens,, Dr.Hook..and Micheal Martin Murphy. Although I agree with you. I was watching the Grammy's and John Stewart's name came up as a musician who passed away recently. I didn't know! I loved this song from the 70's, especially since Steve Nicks was singing background. But I also liked John Stewart's voice. God bless you, John.
