  • I take my DE daily and just in plain water, it is not that bad , I just get it down in 1 or 2 gulps

  • Thanks for the video! I'm just starting to make my own kefir and found your video while searching for whether or not the kefir is harmed when blended into a smoothie. I see that you've answered that question here. What is the difference between the two kefirs that you pour into the blender? I notice that you poured "leftover kefir" in early in the video and then added more "ripened kefir" from a different container towards the end after you'd already blended the ingredients for a while.

  • I would like to see a study on the "negative charge of DE" purging your body of viruses. Thanks.

  • @ThatMixer Here's what I pulled up quickly on google. mmsdr.com/index.php?page=diatomaceous-earth I hope it helps!

  • Hey Will. Thanks for such an informative video. However I've been taking this smoothie for several weeks now and have noticed my stools are much harder and difficult to pass. I was wondering if this is normal when one starts taking DE, or kefir, and if it is likely to pass?

p.s. I *am* jealous of your blender!

  • @randalllfloyd Kefir smoothies with FOOD GRADE DE shouldn't slow down the bowel. Make sure that the DE you are using is food grade! Also, perhaps use less DE at first and see if the slow bowel changes. Play with the recipe and find what will work for you!

  • @19ClairCognizance87 Thanks for the kind words! Although it may seem silly, hearing that folks like you find benefit from the videos keeps me making them!

    To your health!

  • I love this recipe & is great without the honey. I just use a very ripe banana. Thank you!

  • @missasonn86 Agreed! I have since dropped the honey from my daily smoothie as well. I did put a little stevia in to help with the transition. Thanks for the kind words! Enjoy...

    To your health!

  • A lot of people sweeten with honey but I wonder if all of you know that raw honey kills bacteria, both good and bad! So you are killing all the good bacteria in the kefir. I checked with Dr. Mercola's website on this and they sent articles verifying it. You could also sweeten with Maple syrup which I like better then Stevia.

  • @hagenfun5 I agree with you that honey is naturally antibacterial. I have since changed my kefir smoothie recipe to use just a touch of stevia powder (or nothing other than the banana) for sweetener. I really think that the amount of honey would not be able to kill all the bacteria in kefir. The strains of probiotics in wild fermenting kefir like this are so robust, honey isn't going to wipe them out. After all, kefir has been shown to kill ecoli, for example.

  • How much kefir did you end up adding?

  • @gndivn I use roughly 750ml (3/4 of a quart) to make a smoothie. Really the amount of kefir you use is completely up to how much you and your family are going to drink that day.

    To your health!

  • you didn't say how much of the diatomaceous earth to use. Also, what does the finished smoothie taste like? Do you have to drink it right away or can it be refrigerated for any amount of time?

  • @gmfwilson Thanks for asking! Great questions. Generally, I use a tablespoon (not specific) per smoothie. You can start with less. The smoothie tastes great! After all, it's my favorite recipe! :) I like to refrigerate it overnight to let the flavors 'gel' some. You will want to shake it prior to drinking as the smoothie can separate into 'smoothie' and whey. Just shake and enjoy!

    Holler with any other questions!

  • What store carries DE? Is it differrent from the DE I bought from my hardware store?

  • @sfreedom2007 Thanks for asking! Yes, FOOD GRADE DE is different than what you can get at a hardware store. The stuff folks use in pool filters and for dusting plants as a natural pesticide is not food grade and therefore should not be taken internally!

If you search for the brand PERMAGUARD, you will find plenty of folks selling it.

    Holler with any other questions!

  • @TeamingWithNature

I looked up PERMAGUARD, but am confused on which product to get? Do you order from their website? and could you tell me which one ? thanks! :)

  • @CaleeMom

I just tried to post a link on ebay for current listings for Permaguard Food Grade DE but youtube won't let this happen. So, I suggest you go to ebay and search 'permaguard food grade diatomaceous earth'. I hope this helps.

    To health!

  • the honey is good for health reasons too not just for the sweet taste..

  • @WonderWomanFan4life Agreed indeed! We have the wonderful fortune of having honey right from hives on the property where we live. Ahh, the good life...

    Thanks for posting!

    To health!

  • @TeamingWithNature

OMG are you serious??? you have everything... great family, SWEEEET blender, and HONEY on the property... EXCELLENT!! I get my from grocer organice and sometimes from farmers market but it has been RAINING like cats and dogs here. I didnt see them the past two times I have been down there.

    Anyway, happy holidays... Great post.

  • Thanks for the great video. I think I got most of the ingredient amounts except the kefir itself. Did you put approx a pint or a quart? Thanks.

    Theresa

  • @gflack71 Hi Theresa, great question. I guess I did leave out that detail! I don't really measure the kefir, but what I do is put the kefir grains into a quart mason jar then fill with milk until about an inch or two from the top. You want to leave space at the top as the kefir expands as it ferments.

I hope this helps! Holler with any other questions.

    To your health!

  • Best most clear kefir how to I've seen! And real cute!!!!!!

  • @073162cbf Err, thank you.

  • Thanks for your interest in kefiring! Given our current location, we have been suggesting folks interested in getting kefir grains to contact their Weston A Price Foundation local chapter leader in their area. If you go to westonaprice(dot)org and look for 'find a local chapter' link on the right for your area.

We can send you diatomaceous earth. Contact us via the Teaming with Nature youtube page with a private message for details.

    To your health!

  • I'm very interested in getting the Diatomaceous Earth to make my kefir smoothie like yours and can I get some kefir grains from you? Please let me know, I will cover all the expenses. Thank you very much. ;)

  • I love that blender.. Wow!! it still works.. Kool. You are handsome

  • I love your blender. I have a wimpy one and it causes me such pain!

I wanted to mention that most of chocolate's antioxidants are reduced in processing, but the organic raw stuff is probably still good. But cocoa powder is good for the minerals too - lots of magnesium, copper, potassium, etc. I heap it into my smoothies. :)

  • @QuomodoCantantur Agreed about raw cacao versus 'dutch processed' chocolate or cocoa powder! Although eating antioxidant rich foods is good, there's been lots of hype about how great it is without real science behind it. I call it the antioxidant myth, that you can eat lots of 'super foods' and eat your way out of free radical damage. Not really accurate. For more info, holler!

Sorry for the wimpy blender! You can always get a blendtek and have a 'manly' blender! :)

  • This natureloving thing sounds great, but where is the mainstream supported scientific proof that DE actually kills parasites? A lot of the naturopathic/holistic methods are theoretical and don't actually work.

  • I was here researching on the diatimatious earth, but what is kifer?

  • @ladyjustice2113 Great question! Welcome! Kefir is a cultured beverage, normally made from milk, that is similar to yogurt, but with a broader nutritional profile. In other words, yogurt is good for you and kefir is better for you. You will find several videos on my channel here on kefir. Feel free to holler with any questions.

  • Yikes, that last comment freaked me out a little bit - If I use DE daily, do I have to worry about worms in other parts of my body, besides my colon? Also: when I start using DE daily, how long before I start to see / feel results? Thanks!

  • @chthonic19 Actually, if the system is weakened enough and the parasite population is strong enough, parasites can and will 'migrate' into other areas (think other organs!). This is exactly why I use DE as a front line defense against parasites in the small and large intestine. My thinking is if they can't get a good thing going in the colon then they won't have the ability to travel into other parts of the body! I will address your other question next...

    To your health!

  • Regarding how long before someone feels results from using FOOD GRADE DE, I find that folks notice results usually within days. It's subtle however. Common feelings folks notice are shinier, softer skin, less itchiness, more energy, more complete bowel movements that move easier. As the DE removes the 'crap' from the colon, the colon can function better.

In other words, as soon as we remove the toxin load, the body begins to heal itself. Amazing to witness really.

  • @TeamingWithNature Thanks for such an prompt and informative reply - I really appreciate it!

  • I am fasting, but will try this out after Ramadan insha'Allah.

  • I was so excited to hear you talk about Diatomaceous Earth because I am already on the same page with you regarding nutrition. I want to start giving DE to my family and had read this somewhere and am hoping that you can comment (relieve my mind): "It will definitely scare the worms right out of your gut and into your other organs. It will simply eliminate the sensation of the worms slithering around in your colon because the worms will evacuate to other parts of your body."

  • @dcoxon4 I have a couple comments for your questions/concerns. First, be sure if you do use DE to use FOOD GRADE. Second, IF de does physically shred the parasites in the colon, how would they migrate out to avoid it? I agree that parasites can migrate, however, I choose to use DE regularly as a first line of defense to prevent parasitic infestation/colonization from occurring in mass. If they don't get going in mass, in my mind, I don't see how they would migrate easily.

  • I really liked the video. I made the smoothie and my son used it for his cereal.

  • @bloom4mee Ooh, you just made my day! To hear that recipes that I share with others are helping to support the nutritional needs of the next generation really thrills me! Keep posted, I have more videos in the production phase!

To your (and your son's) health!

  • Thanks for the information. I'm going to try this. I feel that some people that are "health conscience" have a kind of sickly look to them, they are thin but look somewhat anorexic. You however, look healthy. Maybe you could share more of your eating habits in future vids. Thanks again.

  • @nottooclosepleeze Thanks for the kind comments and the idea about upcoming videos. Yeah, I would like to make a video getting more into eating habits. If you subscribe to the channel you'll be sure to be notified when we post new vids.

  • perfect, learn something new everyday, will certainly research diatomaceous earth. And Raw milk woo wooooo

  • @prsglenn Make sure it's FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth when you look into it!

  • Great vid and information. By the way, you once mentioned you would upload a post workout shake recipe video. Is this the one?

    Thanks.

  • @gcaracci Yep, this is what came through as my post workout shake. Although I didn't specify this as only post workout, it definitely serves that purpose. Thanks for the supportive words!

    To your health!

  • I use this for my sports kid it id just great. Thanks for sharing and the video is great quality !!

  • I just learned about DE! Thanks for your video, I appreciated your explanation of those taboo subjects and how DE can help! I'm telling people about it - don't know how it will affect me yet but I'm glad I finally stumbled across it... keep it up :) nice video.

I really AM jealous of your machine, btw! lol

My husband and I had great old blender but it did eventually break down with all our icy smoothies.

How much DE did you add? How long until you can tell a difference?

  • @VanessaNeiditch Thanks for the kind words! DE will benefit your health rather quickly. Most folks find benefit within days literally. Over time, skin becomes shinier, nails stronger, etc. Yeah on the machine! I know. Everyone drools on my B-52!

    To your health!

  • Hey Will!!!! Howz it going? Well ive got questions as always. Is the DE the same as Kaolin clay? and second as DE has a negative charge it kills all the bacteria but how exactly does the DE know which is the good bacteria or not? So in a way doesn't it kill the kefir probiotic as well? the question may have sounded dumb but I had to ask! :-)

  • @Cliffypuppy Good questions! I don't know if I have all the answers here! I don't know about Kaolin clay. DE isn't really a clay however so probably not the same. Although DE does carry a negative charge I don't know if it actually kills bacteria in and of itself. I use it mainly as a frontline defense to ingesting parasites as well as the negative charge will pick up those unwanteds in the gut that tend to carry positive charges (eg. heavy metals, fungi, etc). I hope this helps!

    To health

  • does a high speed power blender kill the good bacterias when blending?

  • @joshuanodharma Good question. I would tend to believe not. Bacteria are very small and resilient. I've never put my kefir under a microscope after blending it however. Sounds like another fun project! :)

    To your health!

  • if you have parasites in the sinus... Can you do a sinus rinse with it???

  • @jmusulman Hmm, I'm not too sure about this. I wouldn't do it. What makes you think you have parasites in your sinus? All that said, I do understand the relationship between the lung, large intestine and nose/sinus cavity discussed in detail in Chinese medicine. So, if one has parasites in the colon, which I have come to recognize is almost universal, then it will affect the sinus, but maybe not actually by having parasites in the sinus. I would not suggest using DE in the sinus however.

    Re: Re: Diatomaceous earth

Thanks, Will! I can't seem to find any local stores that sell it - why is it only available online? And most places I call have never even heard of it. Also: should I be concerned about breathing it? I keep finding references to it being bad for one's lungs, warnings about silicosis, etc.

    Delete

  • @chthonic19 I think the warnings about inhaling DE are warranted. It's a very fine powder. I just handle it carefully when I fill the jar I keep mine in for daily use. Search PermaGuard Food Grade DE and you'll find plenty of sites for it.

  • I'm definitely interested in incorporating diatomaceous earth in my diet - can you recommend a particular brand? Thanks!

  • I'm not set up to sell food grade DE yet. What you want to look for is FOOD GRADE. The most common brand I have found is permaguard. It's pretty cheap when you buy in bulk.

    Thanks,

    Will

  • I make Kefir and take Diatomaceous daily. Never though about blending them. Thanks for the tip!

  • It's all about sharing the info... Thank you

  • Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!! Great videos!!

  • Great video!! I really like the ingredients in the shake. I have been taking D.E. for about a month. It really helps with sleeping through the night. I had a weird question for you. I am concerned about the high amount of aluminum in the D.E. What is your take on that?

    Thanks

  • Great question! You stumped me with that one so thanks for providing me with a subject to research this morning! What I gather is the quality of DE used has a high impact on the amount of aluminum in the composition. Food grade DE is a very pure form of DE, some say greater than 99.5% amorphous silica. So, to all those reading this post, make sure you are using FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth. Non food grade has impurities in it that could be dangerous for internal use.

    I hope that helps!

  • Hi,

This Kefir Smoothie looks great, i was also wondering where to buy it from, trying to buy online, every site says about for you pets or Ant controll! :-S

i'm a Military guy into my weight training and will be adding this to my post workout Protein shake, u think this is a good idear?

I usally have, Poridge oats, Protein powder, Peanut butter, Banana, ( & DE ? )

    Thanks Tom.

  • Hey Tom,

Yes, adding kefir to a post workout shake is a great idea. The whey in kefir is the most bioavailable source of protein for humans. It'a a whole, real food so adds a level of nutritional diversity protein powder can't address. So, adding with powder will give your body even more ability to absorb the nutrients it needs.

If you search for 'food grade' diatomaceous earth that will help. We are also getting our shopping cart up to offer this and other goodies.

    To health!

    Will

  • Where do you purchase food grade diatomaceous earth?

    Thanks,

    DD

  • Hi DD,

Lots of folks sell food grade DE online. I also am setting up a store of products I find useful. Depending on the quantity you are looking for, I'm sure I could set you up with some. Let's take this to messages rather than continuing the discussion on the youtube comments.

    To health!

    Will

  • Hi, I would like to know if the earth you are mentioning in your video is the same thing as Azomite Mineral Powder I learnt about from Sally Fallon´s book Nourishing traditions. The properties of both powders seem identical but I would like to check with you.

Btw your videos are great, as well as Sean´s are. He is such a funny guy, I just love his vids.

Another question, what is your take on putting your kefir in a blender, I read that kefir should be put into ready smoothie.

  • Thanks for the kind words. Food grade DE is different from Azomite. It has similar negative charge quality but to my knowledge Azomite is a clay and does not have the anti-parasite effect that food grade DE has. I do like Azomite for my compost tea brew however!

Re: putting kefir in a blender, since the main beneficials are bacteria and yeasts, the blender will not damage them. If we were looking to propagate bigger beneficials then the blender would shred them. Thank you. Peace, Will

  • Hey Will

Great information, I will do more research on FG DE. How long have you been using FG DE? Any side effects? Can you use the FG DE on any other smoothie? Like green smoothie? Is there any after taste?

    Mahalo

  • Aloha,

Thanks for the support. I've been using food grade DE for about one and a half years now. Without getting more graphic than I already did on the video :), the main side effects I have noticed is an even more increased health of my elimination as well as no signs of parasites! I'm sure you could put it in any smoothie and there is no aftertaste, but a textural gritty quality that some object to. We do sell food grade DE and there are many sources for it as well. To health! Will
