nice work.......termite proof? totally suck in a wreck unless the epoxy would strengthen it like steel .......but fiberglass breaks also. 1 of a kind!
looks like they just used hemp or bamboo cloth instead of carbon or glass. maybe some other plant fiber cloth I dont know about. They sometimes use bamboo or hemp for surfboards. Wood fibers have some awsome physical properties from what Ive heard.
@DTFreshass now dont get your panties in a bunch, it is not carved, but is a mesh similar to carbon fiber. it is also covered in epoxy for strength. it would have a similar weight to a ferrari gto in all honesty.
that really is a beautiful car. did they actually ever test drive it? I heard it was to proove that wood is just as strong if not stronger than alot of the metals that go into car production. even if not, its stil bad azz
The last resort of those who have been shown up and OWNED. Finally googled Wooden chassis did you? How embarrassing you can't refute any of my arguments. Repeating thousands of wooden aircraft, boats and numerous cars with wooden chassis (in the 1900's that was standard) and bodies (Marcos, Trianne 111, Africar) don't catch fire. With Fibreglass the number not catching fire is in the 100s of thousands Lotus Lancair etc
@dave97202 Dude, have you even bothered to actually read about those Fiberglass and Wooden boats, air craft and cars? They have wood and fiberglass in the engine bay. Lotus, Riva's, Lancairs etc etc
The headers are the only part that will produce more than 300°F and if that is CERAMIC TAPE WRAPPED IT'S SORTED
The BLOCK is water cooled temp 240F The OIL pan might reach 400F. If it's OVER 700F your engine is DEAD.
@dave97202 "Wooden boats, planes, and cars all catch on fire. Its the principle reason they don't use wood in them anymore" Wrong. COST is why.
You really like looking stupid don't you. Riva Boats ONE example of HUNDREDS of wooden reproduction inboards being built. Experimental Aircraft Assn website Hundreds of wooden planes being built from plans and kits.

I really love wood but this thing is horrid! I mean cmon cane seats?! WTF is that? Was this designed for a hippy racing driver or something? The wooden wheel also sucked! @grecon001 "Spelling out the laughter is..... obnoxious" Really!! You figured that out all by yourself!!? @fizzguts Thank you for being here to tell the rest of the world how to think and spell. I feel so priveledged (as should everyone) to receive your condescending words of wisdom, and spelling lessons. Thank you!
@fizzguts The best part of this is that you couldn't refute my description of you. Maybe a little rogain can help you with that confidence issue you have.
@fizzguts You do realize that you corrected my spelling of the word, whilst calling me pretencious. I cant keep the pecils lined up next to eachother... all that wood ya know...it's kind of a fire hazzard. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Tell me did that get your goat? My wild obnoxious laughter? Did it piss you off and ruin your day? of course not. Did it make you see things my way? Noooo. Dude, really, work on your communication skills or your just a dick with a keyboard.
@dave97202 "Wooden parts WILL catch fire if exposed to high temp. The same goes for rubber hoses, and brake fluid, and fiberglass. They catch fire all the time.""The splinter WILL catch on fire if driven fast for more than a few seconds"
There fore BY YOUR OWN WORDS all race cars will catch fire if driven face for a few seconds because wood = rubber =fiberglass.
So pin head explain WHY don't all race cars, Hydroplanes, Lotus 7 series 4, Marcos catch fire as soon as they are driven fast.
@dave97202 "Wood in racing, now I know your full of shit. "
So you've never heard of, a wooden chassis Marcos sports car, a Lotus 7 series 4, a GP hydroplane with a supercharged methanol burning big block on wooden engine bearers in a PLYWOOD hull. You don't understand the flammability of wood is the same as rubber hoses, brake fluid, fiber glass etc.
You must build engines by touch only as you are obviously blind as well as terminally ignorant.
@dave97202 Considering i have 30 years building, driving and racing fiberglass with plywood bulkheads timber inserts etc and have never had or seen fiberglass panels or grp bonnets or rubber hoses or plastic components or brake fluid catch fire from engine heat I'd say you are making things up. I have seen gasolene leaks and backfires which set fire to the fuel that then burnt out the car.
Wood is no different to grp etc for flammability. Ceramic tape the headers. SORTED.
@dave97202 "the Designer himself said if the car is driven at high speed it runs the risk of catching fire" BULLSHIT As I said there were and still are hundreds of high performance engines running in wooden hulls as well as a number of wooden chassised race and road cars such as the early Marcos and they don't catch fire. Add that to the thousands of kit and race cars using isophtalic (flammable) fiberglass panels that DON'T catch fire every day. Your statement was complete bollocks.
@dave97202 "if the engine block generates too much heat it will cause the body to combust." OH OF COURSE all those WOODEN ChrisCraft etc boats with WOODEN engine covers, WOODEN hatchs etc back in the 1950s and 60's running big arse V8's yep as soon as they turned the engine on they ALL caught fire.
Sigh. The builder of splinter is an engineering graduate not some mouth breathing pizza delivery driver chowder head like you. Ventilation and radiation effects all taken care of.
Compared to steel... wood can be easily machined in your own backward using your own hands with your own tools... its easy for any carpenter with any structural knowledge to build a nice strong lightweight car... at work people and build your dream with your own hands... ; )
Been kind of following this thing's production; it was basically some guy's doctorate thesis in engineering. The world's first wooden supercar has been unveiled - and it's faster than a Porsche or a Lamborghini.
The 'Splinter' car can turn out a whopping 700bhp from its twin supercharged, 4.6litre V8 engine - almost 300bhp more than a Porsche 911.
And with a top speed of a staggering 240mph, it will leave the Porsche or even the brand new Lamborghini Revanton trailing in its wake.
