  • i like video and Olympic

  • Oh My Sweet, Gorgeous Olympic. You were SO incredibly beautiful, outside and in. Just jaw-dropping. Stunning. Magnificent!!!!!!:D

  • OMG, it is exactly like Titanic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is like, watching a ghost movie

  • To sail on the Olympic would have a awesome trip. I would have had a ball.

  • What's the name of the song in the beginning clip?

  • 'its a shame they didn't keep the Olympic around ;( She could've been so wonderful as a museum ship.

Kind of think of it, can you image all the Titanic movies they made if the Olympic wasn't scrapped?

  • @leavenworthkd Well remember the great depression of 1929. Nobody had the money to preserve her. Cunard White Star Line let the Mauretania and Olympic stand for six months in Southampton, so someone would have purchased her.

  • Did u put the music in or was this the original music?

  • It was a silent video. I added the sound effects and music.

  • somebody sohould make a life size olympic class ship.

Now that would be a magnificent, but at the other side this is so expensive.

  • @turbotannn Search for Replica Olympic on YouTube.

  • I like this old Music.

  • It really is a shame they scrapped her, i would go to the other side of the world to be able to walk onto this ship. Would have been amazing! I would have had a tear in my eye if i was able to see the sister ship of the Titanic.

  • I say, old chap, spiffingly marverlous! Toodle-pip!

    Crumpets and tea, anyone?

    Jolly good!

  • MUSIC SUPER

  • yeah, but my point is, those that saw the grand staircase before 1935 were the last generation. what about our generation and future generations will never know what an experience it was to walk down those stairs or compare places and events that happened in the same spots on her sisterships.

  • The huge centre piece from Olympic's Grand Stair Case (Honour and Glory Crowing Time) was saved and is currently in Southampton's Maritime Museum. It's scary when you look at it in person. I always imagine the countless number of First Class passengers who also gazed up at it as they walked up and down the staircase.

  • it's a same they scrapped this beautiful ocean liner, all the things they could have used the olympic for, could of used her in the 1997 titanic film instead of making sets = could of been used as a hotel, i know i'd go and for all those titanic buffs out there including me.

seeing, smelling the olympic was far as we could get to touching the legendary titanic.

now all we got to remember them is countless books and films.

  • Olympic was scrapped in 1935. I'm sure there are plenty of people who walked up and down the Grand Stair case still alive.

  • @martydhayward There were plans to put the Olympic as hotel up in France. But after they found out that the funnels were going to collapse and the holes in her hull, she was scrapped.

  • @Abricialio Just out of curiosity, who was going to make the Olympic a hotel in France?

  • @asharifi6 There are some several Olympic fan websites that claimed that a French millionaire wanted to preserve the Olympic. This could be the reason why Olympic was moved before the Mauretania in June 1935.

  • cool video

  • It's kind of haunting to hear Olympic's horns.

  • the only Olympic Liner which actualy reached new york

  • the rms olympic is a nice ship

  • It's too bad that nobody thought to preserve the Olympic as a museum! Like the Queen Mary. Imagine being able to see the interior and wander around on a ship nearly identical to the titanic!

  • Hello mindset a bit now eh, how could the right to save the sinking of the Estonia sister? therefore scrap scrapping them olympic

  • they actualy could have made it look just like titanic JUST SINK IT ok bad idea but there are some comparison pics on some sites all they have to do was add some walls add some rooms on the deck since Olympic had more deck space than titanic

  • White Star was trying to forget about the 'T' ship:)

  • No mention of her sister ship.

  • Of course not! Do you think they would remind people of a disaster that killed 1500 people? While trying to get people to book passage on the Olympic?

  • Well, as far as I know, there was a strike onboard Olympic after Titanic sank, thus cancelling her voyage.

  • The Olympic operated 23 year after the titanic sank

  • Unitl Olympic struck a lightship in the 30's, ending her career as a passenger ship.

  • Actually Olympic continued to sail after that incident. She struck the lightship in 1934 but wasn't withdrawn until 1935. Her demise had nothing to do with that incident--it was because she wasn't making money anymore, as she was considered old and unfashionable by the traveling class.

  • This (like Titanic) was the first liner to have a swimming pool. Of course, if Titanic had gone her uneventful way until being decommissioned decades on, she would be unknown except to nautical buffs.

  • She looks alot like Titanic because she is Titanic's sister-ship. Olympic was actually the more famous UNTIL Titanic sank. Olympic was the first of the White Star trio and had a very successful career.

  • wow, she looks so much like titanic. I am a huge fan of titanic

  • great footage! Like seeing the Titanic her sister ship nearly identical

  • It got sound! must be a vitaphone?

  • It hadn't even occurred to me that there would be real video footage of the Olympic! Fantastic videos... thank you for sharing! If you ever get down to Southampton you must go and see Honour and Glory crowning time from the Olympic at the maritime museum - you truly can touch history!

  • It's good to hear the Olympic's whistles in this video, makes you think about Titanic's departure from Southampton on April 10, 1912.

  • your welcome

  • I agree completely. That is my favorite part, hearing the whistles. My Grandfather was an officer on Olympic once and he said that the sounds of the ships whistle would always stay with him.

  • Aaron1912 - This is magnificent. The footage of people at Pier 61 cheering Olympic as she departs is just thrilling. Ocean Liner departures were exciting events. Compare them to the mundane airport departures of today. Maybe progress is not all it's cracked up to be. I am truly impressed with you YouTube contributions and offer up a most sincerely felt thank you.

  • great

  • It's a treasure ! Absolutely amazing ! This film shows places that have never been photographed like First Class Entance by the Grand Staircase on the port side, and the Squash Court. It's also wonderful to see passengers in the Gymnasium, using Electric horse, and the row Machine. We have to know that all this was also on the Titanic, so it's really a treasure !

  • Once again Aaron, your wonderful collection of videos never ceases to amaze and entertain me... Especially this collection of videos from the great RMS Olympic!

Simply amazing footage, and it's great to see some video footage of some of the more elegant features on the ship, such as the grand staircase, the elevators and the swimming pool too! Very nice.

  • I'm a big fan of your videos

  • This video shows all the true elegant themes of the White Star ships that few ever got to see of the Titanic and NEVER got to see on the Britannic. Amazing footage.

  • What's the music at the very beginning of this video? I've heard it before, but I just can't think of it.....

  • Olympic was never 1000 tons bigger than Titanic. Titanic was 46,328 tons, Olympic 45,323 tons, in 1913 Olympic was increased to 46,358, just 30 tons more. Titanic had exactly the same dimensions she was not longer, they were both 882 ft 9 inches long. GREAT VIDEO THOUGH WOW !

  • No, you're talking about Gross Tons, which are a measure of volume, not weight. Titanic had a slightly greater Gross Tonnage, because, amongst other things, her wheelhouse was a differend shape. Therefore, Titanic had a greater Volume by a margin of around 1000 gross tons (one gross ton is equal to 100 cubic feet, or 2.83 square metres).

  • Actually, the Titanic was just a few inches longer than the Olymopic. The Olympic was 882ft 6in and the Tianic was 882ft 9in

  • Aaron1912...thank you! I wasn't sure if I actually wanted the German film in my collection...but I am seriously contemplating it now...just for this footage!

  • This is one totally INCREDIBLE video! Where did you ever obtain sucj a golden prize???

  • It is in the extras on the DVD Titanic (1943) german version

  • Its so incredible to obtain such footage you don't CARE if its colour! Oh, like being on it - what a dream...

  • true

  • I one time talked to some1 who sailed on it in the 1920's

  • Must've been awesome. What did they say?

  • Was the most memorable expirence they'd ever had

they traveled 1st class from ireland to new york mecause his father was moving his buisness (banking)

he was 7 years old at the time

  • What songs are in these films?

  • Titanic were bigger then Olympic...

  • how so...? alot of people tend to think that because titanic had a few extra features but size wise they were the same as far as i know at one point olympic was actually over 1,000 tons bigger than titanic

  • The Titanic was a few feet longer.

  • 0:29 It Looks A But Capsized.

  • Titanic Was the same size but weighed more and had half her promanade enclosed

  • The main difference between Olympic and Titanic was that for Titanic they decided to make it especially luxorious and full of art and expensive furniture. Actually luxury was the main selling point of the Olympic liners since Cunard's Mauretania and Lusitania were faster by quite a margin.

  • I think it was her stern was larger than the Olympic's. Not sure though, but it doesn't matter really because it was only a foot.

  • titanic's flap pole on the rear deck was about a foot longer than her two sisters, olympic and britanic

  • And the titanic was one feet longer than the olympic. maybe she had an longer bow.

  • The Titanic is the younger of the two ships. Olympic was the first of the Olympic Class, that's why they're called the OLYMPIC CLASS and not the TITANIC CLASS. Actually, the Titanic's maiden voyage wasn't as big of a deal compared to the Olympic's (prior sinking).

  • What he/she ment was the size!!!

  • There wasn't much of a size difference.

  • Ya!I think is more on luxury.Like the Cafe Peserian.

  • She's beautiful, just like her big sister, Titanic ^_^.

  • I agree...

  • I said what I meant. The Cafe Parisian was so successful on the Titanic that it made sense to add one on the Olympic. It wouldn't have mattered if the Titanic sank or not, I think, money is money. The CAFE was a success not the trip.

  • The Olympic and the Titanic also had differences in there interiors. The Titanic had a Parisian Cafe by the A la Carte and the Olympic didn't at first. After the Titanic Disaster, the white Star Line strengthened the Olympic and added more lifeboats, also they added a Parisian Cafe because it was a success on the Titanic. They also expanded the a la Carte Restaurant.

  • whoa whoa whoa ... whoa. Did you just say success on the Titanic? hahahahahahahahahahahaha no seriously think about that for a second.

  • That's right Titanic wasn't in no means unlucky it's just to many things went wrong that night. The reason that Titanic had an cafe Parisian is because on Olympic's sea trials Thomas Andrews noticed that Olympic's sides moved in and out 3 to 4 inches because it only had half inch thick hull after he noticed that they added the enclosed promenade deck and cafe parisian to strength Titanic's side's.

  • like the music

  • The Olympis actually had more gross tonnage so it was actually bigger then the Tianic in Weight.

  • Olympic and Titanic were identical. The only difference between the two was that Olympic had an exposed Promenade deck, while Titanic's was enclosed.

  • Does anyone know what the name of the song from the video 1920's rms olympic and nomadic.thanks

  • It's called That Mesmerizing Mendelssohn Tune. Go to amazon and search for Titanic Music As Heard On The Fateful Voyage

  • Thanks i've look everywhere trying to find that

  • Is that the one from the video rms olympic and nomadic?

  • This video is awesome. But could you tell me what the name of the song was from the first one please?

  • imagine being a titanic survvior and watching this at a cinema

  • WOW! Thanks for posting this! lol I was really mad when the other one was deleated, absolutely LOVED watching that thing. I do have one question though, why is the music different? And what happened to that woman at the end waving goodbye? lol Either way I love this one, especially when you can hear the ship's whistle.

  • If anyone is wondering I have the old one 1920's RMS OLYMPIC AND NOAMDIC watch it and see what you think. Thanks

  • Love it but where has the 1920's lady gone at the end of the original?

  • Although this is Olympic, I can't stop thinking about Titanic. They are similar.

  • They were similar in many ways yes, but the titanic had mostly closed and private decks.

  • Beautifull!!!!
