  • Oh my god, I LOVE your garden! I wish I could do something like this...But I am planing to plant some pumpkins.

  • Cool! Does the rain water attach to the watering system?

  • No but that would be even cooler! we put it in watering cans and use it on the flowers and herbs. thanks for the comment!

  • that setup is giving me tons of ideas! i was wondering what those water wells were... snap peas definatley taste the best right off the plant... does your mom store her over production? if so or if she did... about how long would her crop provide food for, lets say for just one adult?

  • Veggies will grow until the first frost.

radishes, lettuce and peas don't grow so well in the hot hot weather , they like it a bit cooler.

if you planted enough potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and onions you could store them in a cool dry space and they'd last through the winter until the next season. my grand parents used to do it, survive off their food cellar through the winter (tomatoes potatoes onions...). they can get a little soft but still okay.

  • Also you could can or Jar tomatoes, beans, pickles , some peppers and salsa etc. and it will last for a few years.

Freezing veggies is an option too.

And another tip: seeds take at least 72days to germinate.

  • yeah, i want to try to develop a system that would allow me to store food for the winter without needing to buy anything other than things like milk and eggs... that may take some practice!

  • I agree It does take practice. I've been trying my own experiment in my front porch growing veggies, got a tomato plant growing already, next week lettuce and more. I'm lucky I have someone like my Mom Who's been doing it for 30+ years to teach me. And if I've learned anything from you it's that this sort of info should be available to everyone, I'll pass it on. maybe I will make a goal, see how much I can grow and store over this winter. we'll see. I have so many projects going right now lol!

  • for sure, it's a great hobby and a useful one at that... essential knowledge should never be forgotten... it's crazy how dependant people are on the system... traditional methods of living off the land is a great benefit to our health and future. I personally find it more down to earth. Closer to reality.... Hell, it maybe one day that we will no longer be able to depend on this corporate luxury...
