Most of the people in the volcano are fire based (i don't think that's much of a spoiler is it?) so mostly hammer badges, until the last boss! You can't use the hammer on the last boss, unless you get the hammer throwing badge. Also, stock up on Snow Men!

For the badges, take off the Zap Tap. It's not the glitchiness. It's that almost all of the upcoming dungeon enemies aren't effected by it. Also, DON'T go back to Toad Town. Do that after the dungeon.

There are yoshis of both genders? And I swear you have the most interesting first dates x3 Ice Power and Quick Change are a must, Spike Shield and Zap Tap are nice but you can sacrifice it if you need the extra points. You will get Fire Shield eventually, and you can use this in place of or in combination with Ice Power, but I never use it. Other than that feel free to experiment as you see fit.

The version is usually specified by the [U] (!) in the name of the file. You have to get this one: Paper Mario (U) [!] hope that helps

Try Power Quake, since it's really helpful and you aren't using much of your FPs.

Use Ice Power, and Fire Shield if you have it.

If you have gotten better at Commanding the dodge then put Damage Dodge on. If you put Defense Plus and both Damage Dodges, you will be able to avoid 3 damage which is very helpful but I don't think you should try this considering it requires a lot of BPs and good command reflexes.

for the upcoming volcano, expect lots of fire enemies. so accordingly use badges with increased damage versus them, and decreased damage from them. also consider spike tap so you don't have to waste FP on hammer uses.

Try challenging yourself into using a different set of badges, the Tattle All challenge (I did it on my first playthrough except for the fuzzy worm thing b/c you need Watt out to do anything for that battle), or imposing limits on yourself, like no FP regeneration items, etc.
