  • by far the best teacher i've found on youtube

  • Yea really nice Video! And I'll be sure to try those Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies. I have a feeling I'll be needing new strings soon so now I have a little direction to go in!

  • Hey, Joe, or anyone else reading this, for some reason, my strings only seem to bend up half a step at max. Even if I use two hands to bend the string, It just snaps... =( I tried adjusting the action and making the strings really loose, but nothing seems to help.

  • ah my fingers... these are usefull though

  • Very well done!!!

  • Good video, though I've never had luck with full-step bends. I don't know if it's because my finger muscles need development or if my string tension is too high, but I've never been able to apply them below the 12th fret.

  • thats really killing my fingers lol, ive been playing about 15 months now, and for some reason my calices (not sure on spelling lol) havent come yet on my fingers. before i started work a few months ago id play for about 4 hours a day, now i only get about 2 hours in on weekdays, and about 4 on weekends

  • That's awesome! Keep it up. I don't practice as much as I used to. I play 4-5 nights a week for about 3 hours a night. I teach three afternoons a week. I sometimes don't want to even think about music for a while. Your callouses will come, don't you worry. Whatever you do, don't pick at the blisters that may develop. The skin will harden. I can almost strike a match on my fingertips! LOL Thank you so much for watching. Take care.

  • thanks for the great lesson. what kind of strings are those?

  • Thank you! Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies. Love the tone!

  • yes, we feel like you do. lol

  • LOL I can only hope so! :)

  • what notes are you strings tunned in

  • Standard EADG

  • Are your strings really loose?

  • No not at all. It has a lot to do with how the bass is set up, the tension of the strings, and the strength of the hand. All of those things are adjustable.

  • could u offer me exercises to bend like 0:33. thanx

  • I watched all your videos for the last two hours! Loved it, wish I could take some extra lessons from you!!

Very good clear lessons, easy to follow. Thanks!

Maybe some lessons about timing? Would be nice :)

  • Thanks for your kind and concise answer.

  • Thanks for your kind response...I assume they do not chew frets as the RS do....

  • They're very kind to the frets. The nickel is soft and doesn't eat into the frets like say, stainless steel. They have a cool upper midrange tone, and grindy sound I love. Take care.

  • Thank you coolB.....are they the Slinky ones??

  • Yes they are. Medium Slinky. Love those strings.

  • very cool video, and nice blues runs

  • Thank you.

  • kudos..very nice tone...you seem to use very light gauge string...what are they?

  • They're a medium gauge Ernie Ball set. .100 to .45.

  • Awesome, keep them coming... would like some practice runs to get the fingers moving:-)

  • what kind of bass is that???

  • Ibanez Fender Jazz copy from 1975. My baby!

  • I wish i had this when i was learning.

Thank you very much for the lessons, You are awesome by sharing this.

  • Me, too. That's why I do them. I want as many people as possible to learn to play an instrument. It's so fun and rewarding. Who knows for some it could be lucrative? Thank you.

  • What type of bass do you have

im looking for one similar to your one

and what effect pedals would you recommend

  • That bass is my baby! It's an Ibanez Fender Jazz copy from '75. Love the tone! As far as effects. I recommend any of the Roland/Boss effects. I normally don't use them unless I'm trying to make a statement. I'll use distortion, delay, sometimes some chorus. Not too many things. Bass effects usually get lost in a mix - especially live! I have a Boss BT-6 multi-effects processor. Love it! Lots of fun. Experiment. Lots of great gear out there. All the best!

  • Well done. I really enjoy your lessons. Thanks!!!!

  • :) All smiles!

  • Great stuff like always.

  • Thank you.

  • sigh. i used be able to bend of my old bass but now my bass' string tension is too much...

any tips for reducing string tension?

  • Try a lighter gauge string.

  • Man this video was so annoying

  • Why so? Please elaborate.

  • You kept doing the same bend over and over and over again on the 7th fret of the G string. Sorry but it got really really annoying.

  • I understand. I repeated it for clarity.

  • hey, Joe! can you post in vid info some tabs or riffs you playing? we really need them, bro! lol. no, seriously ))) more melodies, more riffs, more phrases! thanks again, great vid

  • cheers Joe, good stuff man, and frampton isnt old -its timeless man lol

  • Good! I thought I heard my joints creaking for a second! LOL

  • The Bends = Decompression Sickness, I've just noticed. GJ as always Joe. Like someone said before - time to practice.

  • Yep. Just don't surface too quickly!

  • listening to you play is like magic

  • Thank you! I just want to say...::POOF!!!:: LOL

Did you like my magic? :)

  • Top of the line lessons and info as always.

  • Thank you for your kind words.

  • Time to practice, thanks a lot Joe!

  • I'm here to help...and to aggitate!! LOL
