I wonder if R&B Bands COMPOSING, PERFORMING, PLAYING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS OF THEIR OWN ORIGINAL MUSIC WILL EVER COME FROM THE RECORD/MUSIC INDUSTRY AGAIN in my lifetime.
I doubt it.
I pretty much abandoned R&B Music....what is suppose to be good, Kanye West, Black Eye PEAS is rediculously bad to me. AT least I was there when Real Music was being made...Commodores, Earth/Wind/Fire, Cameo, Isley Brthrs, Heat Wave, AWB, Confunction, Rufus/ChakaKahn, BarKays, OhioPlayers, LTD, Gap Band etc etc
I'm too young to have seen this first-hand, but I can appreciate in the sampling of the Beastie Boys. Without them, I wouldn't have heard it otherwise. I will probably cover this tune with my band sometime, once we can get it worked out..
@DetroitLives313 I had just turned 13 and was visiting my dad in Michigan. I had him buy the '45 for me and I think I danced to this song for a whole week. My daddy said all he could hear was my stumping around upstairs in my room. Memories...
No you couldn't people played insturments and jammed for hours 7 days a week during those days and got tight before they went out and played parties and talent shows because African- Americans would boo you if you did what BEYONCE, USHER, T-PAIN, R-KELLY and all those vocal groups do like lipsync or have dancers knowing you have no talnet whatsoever.
This is what made this band great! After listening to post-Lionel Richie Commodores and to Lionel's solo stuff, I don't think either performer recaptured the magic they had as a group.....
@groundhog713 This song came out when I was 13 yrs. old. At 16 I got to see them in concert. It was my first concert and my first date. I will never forget it. I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert about 4 times and each time was memorable.
He looked cool then and still does. I had the great pleasure of seeing him live in concert two days ago (Jan. 15, 2010) and he was wonderful! Looks like he has just as much stamina as he did back then and gave 150% of himself on every song, for 1 1/2 hours without a break. No lip synching either.
Depends. If you like your funk sweet, this is the one. If you like it sticky, "Fire" by the Ohio Players is it. If you want it spacey, "Tear the Roof Off The Sucker" is the one.
@mrmartinmartin , check OUTTA SPACE by Billy Preston. I really feel it inspired this Commodores joint here as I think Billy was first. Love them both!
I heard this on the tv show Nip/Tuck episode Escobar Gallardo. I recommend the show.
