I have no TV and when this fire was on I had no computer either, so I am not really up to date with what happened here. Was anyone hurt, because it was a hell of a fire. I had to look very hard to see the planes bombing the fire, and really were onto a losing battle really? It seems to have burned a pretty large area, shame when that happens. Just one thing, why is it called the station fire? Or is that forest or woods?
Mr Blue Nun -- the "Station Fire" is so called because, ironically, a fire station in the Angeles Crest Forest was the ignition source of the fire -- it was arson. Over 160,000 acres were burned. Tragically, two firefighters lost their lives in the blaze. Google "station fire" if you want to know more. My video was made from my bedroom window. But no homes in my town were lost, due to the incredible job of the firefighters.
You know, in spite of the crazy danger, I couldn't help thinking that the pilots were probably enjoying the chance to do some demanding maneuvers. When else do you get to dive that low in tight terrain. it must be a bit of a guilty pleasure for them...
Those are airplanes dropping fire retardant. Trying to slow the progress of the fire. I watched many of them drop huge amounts of red dust that afternoon as this was shot.
Video "author" is incorrect, did he even watch his own video? Those are indeed helicopters making those low and slow passes. AND, they're dumping water in this vid, not PHOS-CHeK retardant -they fill up with water over at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. I'm sure the poster of this vid may have seen planes, dropping "red dust" (PHOS-CHeK), but not in this vid here.
Why so snarky? While most of the aircraft were indeed helicopters dropping water, several of the passes seen in the video are airplanes, dropping the fire retardant. I counted five such passes in the hour and a half of this video's filming.
I remember back in the 50's when Tujunga canyon caught on fire. Been a long time since I've been back to my old home town.... Praying for it to be contained soon.
Well, sorry oh gracious, witty and cultured Mr. Haskellite73, but it is not ash. It's a load of fire retardant dropped from a plane. There are others at 0:43 and 1:00.
its the devil, hes coming to get you, oh no, but im telling you its to late... hes already there........ IM HERE....... AND IM GOING TO BAPTISE ALL OF YOU..........WITH FIRE

could you see what aircraft were used for water drops? that's a pretty narrow canyon there.

It is narrow. The pilots were amazing. I took still photos of the planes, but I'm not aviation savvy enough to id them.

30 fpm, i think you mean. nice job.
fatandslat 2 years ago
No I really meant 30 fps. I used the Standard NTSC video frame rate of 30 frames per second. Then I captured one frame taken every 2 seconds.
TimCJ1215 2 years ago
The input was 30 fpm, but the output is 30fps.

Check out :25 and again at :40 to :47.
Looks like some projectile falling and gives an impression of fueling the fire.
What is it?
