After the second major life hill, is it that first tunnel, or the second tunnel where the track tilts you almost sideways? I was just there on Saturday for the first time, and rode it twice, but I still can't remember. Anyway, it was my second-favorite behind the Diamondback, it packs one killer punch for it's age! I'm certainly going back someday!

@MrsPattinson897 It's only so smooth because of the safety breaks they put on it. Totally ruined the ride! lol The thing used to whip you around so much (ESPECIALLY on the back half) that people came off of The Beast with injuries!! I got the side of my head busted when I was 11 and my dad's glasses flew off! It used to be ROUGH!! It was awesome!! It's nothing now, compared to what it used to be. Slower too. Damn safety measures!! lol Still a cool ride though.

The Beast is one of the best coasters at King's Island. The speed makes up for the lack of loops and corkscrews. I'm serious...it's FAST. And the ride time isn't short like some of the other coasters.

@jumpbacktome Our conversation was based upon wooden coasters, and my experience between the two. Obviously the experience of a steel roller coaster is going to be different than a wooden coaster. Steel has the capability of inversions, and in some cases more speed. Not to mention the smooth ride. I personally dont care much for the "smooth" part.

@Tyromecatron Obviously, after 32 years, coaster engineering is going to change. And I give credit to the Charlie Dinn "the designer of The Beast." He's a lot smarter than me, hence he's an engineer that satisfied hundreds and thousands with his art of building. I just think this ride is overrated, flat out not as good, as it's made up to be. @Tyromecatron I said no offense to anyone who likes the Beast. I posted my own personal opinion. Apparently mine, is quite different than your's.

And The Voyage beats the Beast in 4 categories: Drop at 154 feet, Height at 173 feet, Speed at 67.4 mph, & Descent angle at 66 degrees. The Beast is longer by 958 feet. I can assure you that the Beast covers that much ground on straight-aways alone. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to waste my ride time on a straight-away.

I have ridden plenty of 200+ foot tall roller coasters that would be chewed up and spat out by Maverick at Cedar Point, a ride that is barely over 100 feet tall. If you want to talk about why one ride is better than another, try talking about the experience rather than the schematics.

No offense to anyone who likes The Beast, but this was kind of pathetic to me. It was more long and boring than anything. Now, The Voyage at Holiday World, "Santa Clause, IN." that's a good wooden coaster... I know there's quite a bit of age difference between the two, but all the hype about the Beast is definitely overexaggerated.

@oOlynchOo Meh...I went on the Voyage and I think it is very overrated. The main problem with the Beast are the trim brakes that have neutered that damn ride over the years. When I rode it back in the late 80's and throughout the 90's that ride was amazing.

It's still my second favorite wooden coaster behind El Toro.

I grew up in Dayton. Back in the day, the covered stretch before the second tunnel didn't use hydraulic brakes to slow the train. You would fly around that corner into the tunnel. Memories.

It's not really all that fast compared to many others nowadays, 64.77 mph. It is the noise, the give of the wood. The noise in the two tunnels. Then the noise again in the two helixs as you go thru them at at angle and those helixe are a rough ride. There's a reason it is still considered one of the best in the world after 31 years. I'm 70 now and no longer ride the beast. I would but heart & wife say no.

@1986BUDZ It depends on where you sit. If you sit in any of the middle seats of the cars (not just the trains) it's a less jarring ride as you're not over the wheels. It's still pretty bumpy though. So front seat of ride 2/10, any of the middle seats of the cars 3/10, any of the seats over the wheels of the cars 20/10 The back seat gets an amazing whip action over the top of the first hill but gets so bumpy afterwards you might want to visit your chiropractor afterwards.

@1986BUDZ I wouldn't know as I haven't ridden that ride :) KI is my home park and since it's not far away from us we generally don't visit other parks. Anyway to add to what Countrykid told you...my dad used to ride the Beast before they put the divider between the people in the seats and the seat belts in. He said you'd be whipped from side to side so much if you were the only rider that you'd have bruises up and down your body. Regardless it's worth it to ride. :)
