Is it weird that the only times energon was bareable to look at was when they went back to the 'older and less impressive' traditional animation?

It's cool that they used normal animation style in this. Energon could be much better with normal animation... and with comic plot by Simonf Furman.

I don't like Energon either but not all the post-G1 Transformers are bad, I think Animated is quite ok

Why not? The animation might not be to my taste but at least they have a coherent plot with continuity between the episodes unlike the mash-up that was G1 or the neverevending space opera that was Energon

I would prefer it if they had stuck to a more G1-esque style. ahh...it seems like some people have been giving us Animated fans some thumbs down ratings...pity these Geewuners, living in a golden age and failing to see the flaws of that show

Some scenes are animated to make it a bit more dramatic, check out the "Farewell Inferno" episode, the second half of the episode has some great animated scenes.

It is, but oddly enough, they depended on Cel animation to make the stock footage more impressive, because the CGI had a considerably low budget and animation technique.

not exactly sure, but chances are the franchise for the series died out. although Transformers as a whole is a powerful franchise, if the story and/or the voice acting doesn't appeal to the audience, you've got a big flop unfortunately.
