Carlos Sastre was not consider as he should be for the press. Not well "professional" journalist has not speak about him after he win the Tour it has been more or less the same after Indurain won his first Tour. I don't know why, but I think Spanish journalist don't live this sport with passion only as a work and they show so many times they don't care about what people like or would like.
Journalist only want idols, and I think they don't value Carlos's humility and perseverance. They prefer cycling "stars" like Contador, Armstrong etc.. because they have what journailst call charsima.
Is fare to say that After the Victory in the TDF-Carlos ended up with the upper hand & Riss felt he couldn't handle that. Rumor has it that Bjarne is tight with money (reason for the Departure of Cervelo) and his leaderships goes near to vanity.... I believe Carlos was wise to walk away and he'll get a better performances with Cervelo Testteam which I dare to say that will hire Cancellara & the Schleck Brother as soon as their contracts expire
Carlos Sastre and Bjarne Riis always had a troubled relashionship, as Carlos never was Bjarnes first choice as a leader of the team. It was Jalabert, Hamilton, Basso, Frank and Andy, who were Bjarnes first choices. But he was the one who won the Tour for Bjarne. I understand why he left CSC to another team who are more willing to give him the credit and respect he deserves. Go, carlos, go!
I think Carlos has worked hard for the CSC team not only in the Tour, also in the Giro, Vuelta a España, etc and the last years he has shown himself to be able to win the Tour. Bjarne gave him the possibility of being the leader of the team the Tour of 2007.
The last Tour I think he bet for Carlos and Frank together because he allowed Frank to attack on Alpe d´Huez, which indicate that Carlos was not considered as the real leader of the team, if so Frank would not have attacked. Besides, Bjarne bet for Frank when he was the leader of the Tour while Carlos was forgotten, and I think that this was not a strategy.
I hope they allow Cervélo Test Team to take part in the Tour or at Least in La Vuelta
Your english is fine, amigo. Before the 2008 season Carlos wanted a young spanish guy (I do not remember his name) to be a part of the CSC team, but Riis said "no senor, we have other plans". Cervelo team says "OK Don Limpio" right away and gives the young spanish guy a contract for 2009. In my eyes that is the big difference. Riis did not listen to Sastre in some important (for Carlos) issues, but Cervelo team does.
