  • this is kinda sad to see i would think the producer you can hardly call the farmers would have sprinklers i doubt the building code would require them but surely the insurance co should think of the millions at stake 100 thousand for a sprinkler system is a small price to not be shut down for the 6 months to a year it would take to get back up

  • THE BIBLE SAYS: A RIGHTEOUS MAN REGARDETH THE LIFE OF HIS BEAST, BUT THE TENDER MERCIES OF THE WICKED ARE CRUEL. / THERE WILL BE SPECIAL CHAMBERS OF HORROR FOR UNREPENTANT SOULS THAT DEPART THIS LIFE AND GO TO HELL, WHO ABUSED ANIMALS AND CAUSED THEM PAIN.My neighbor took my pet rabbit when I was a kid, and killed it in its cage and cut off its legs.THAT SAME NEIGHBOR GOT IN A MOTORCYCLE WRECK, AND HIS LEG HAD TO BE CUT OFF FROM THE KNEE DOWNWARD. GOD SEES ALL THIS CRUELTY, AND THEY WILL PAY.

  • Welcome to the world of production and commodities. Until consumers start demanding better conditions for their food, this will keep on happening.

  • Its an unfortunate fact that the majority of consumers like to keep the production of meat out of sight and out of mind. As long as they can get the meat neatly packaged in a supermarket - they don't care.

  • UPDATE:

    December 24, 2009

Another barn fire in Ontario kills 800 pigs.

  • I also saw photos of a fire in a hog barn in europe somewhere and it was unbelievable. One sow was burnt up as she tried to escape from her stall.

If the animals are vulnerable to fire, they should at least be allowed to move out of the vicinity of the flames. That's what my spouse says, anyway.

It's not an attack campaign--these photos. It's information, which is just so hard to contemplate.

  • The information was provided and the footage was even shot by an informant from the Cluny Colony, so any issues you have with it should be taken up with the Colony itself.

  • I must disagree with you --politely-- that keeping thousands of sows in cages isn't really farming and the people who keep pigs like this aren't really farmers. It's production and technology and the pigs can't get out when a fire starts. I think this site wants to have a discussion about this. I am sad for the fire fighters too. It's all very, very sad. For everyone. The fire fighters tell me it smells really bad and they hear screaming pigs. Keeps me awake at night.

  • u dont understand a thing about hog farming, and i dont blame u. lots of folks get caught up in the hype of creulty to animals, please watch (truth about modern hog production) on utube also, that lady is honest,

  • wat u think will happen after a fire? everthing will be nice and rosey?idiot grow up!!!!!!!!

  • If fires are going to happen in our communities, then we want to know what is going on and why they happen so often. My spouse (firefighter) has gone out to a couple of them to help put them out and we sort of want to know why they keep happening and why pigs are kept in cages. It isn't right. You yelling at people who are worried about all of this isn't right either. Where does all this anger come from?

  • your right gripdoggy, 'right is right' and I can honestly say that if most people took a tour through mass produced chicken farms or pig farms or any animal for that matter- they would demand accountability. Unfortunately, most people don't have the time to do it- and most couldn't stomach the truth anyways, so they maintain ignorance.
