  • We were so blessed and fortunate to come of age with so many gifted and talented artists. Kashif is at the top of the list, but others include Patrice Rushen, Narada Michael Walden, Jam and Lewis, and many more. What a magical time musically! Any time you hear songs like this and you feel something, it's just special. Kashif obviously had a hard life early on, but he turned it into something incredible, and blessed us with a body of work that will never lose its magic.

  • KASHIF, whose name means “inventor, discoverer and magic maker” has spent a lifetime doing just that, inventing, discovering and making magic. He is legendary; a producer, songwriter, artist, author, director, photographer, documentarian, and a music icon.

  • @ArchieGe my names kashif. it means "blessed"!!

  • He has produced and/or written chart topping smash hits for Whitney Houston, Kenny G, George Benson, Barry White, Lil’ Kim, Evelyn Champagne King, Will Downing, Dionne Warwick, Janet Jackson, Johnny Kemp, Glenn Jones, Al Jarreau, Da Brat, Me’lisa Morgan and Monica just to name a few.

  • Born Michael Jones December 26, 1956 in Harlem, New York, Kashif has never known his biological family. “According to my birth certificate, my birth mother was incarcerated when I was four months old. Thats when I went into foster care. All told I experienced eight foster homes between the time I was four months and fifteen years old. My introduction to music came in the form of a $3.00 song flute when I was in the fourth grade.”

  • Music as it turned would be the only common denominator amidst the uncertainty of moving between the many places he would call home. By age 12 he had mastered several instruments and was playing in some of New York’s finest clubs (The Copacabana & LLoyd Price’s Turntable) and became one of the most sought after musicians on the local band scene.

  • @ArchieGe great info...

  • In 1974 at the age of 17 Kashif was recruited to join world renown funk band B.T. Express, whose credits included the mega hits “Here Comes The Express” and “Do It ‘Til You’re Satisfied”, among others. It was during this time that he changed his name to Kashif Saleem.

  • Seeking a more challenging musical assignment in 1978 Kashif exited B.T. Express and landed a job as keyboardist for R&B sensation, Stephanie mills. 1979 marked a major milestone for Kashif’s budding career. Granted his first production opportunity by RCA Records to produce Evelyn “Champagne” King, he more than met the challenge by writing and producing “I’m In Love”. The song became an instant mega-hit, revitalized King’s career and branded Kashif as a cutting-edge songwriter/producer

  • It was his time, and over the next ten years his creativity blossomed. The production offers poured in as he created hit after hit including “So Fine” for Howard Johnson, “Love Come Down”, “Becha She Don’t Love You” and “Back To Love” for Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King among many others.

  • In 1980 Kashif signed with Arista Records as a solo artist and continued his unrelenting assault on the R&B music charts with hits like “I Just Got To Have You, Lover Turn Me On” and “Stone Love”, “Help Yourself To My Love” and the Grammy-nominated instrumental “The Mood”.

  • In 1983 his second album, “Send Me Your Love”resulted in two Grammy nominations, “Edgartown Groove”, featuring Al Jarreau, and “Call Me Tonight” along with the hits “Baby Don’t Break Your Baby’s Heart” and “Are You The Woman”.

In 1983 his second album, “Send Me Your Love”resulted in two Grammy nominations, “Edgartown Groove”, featuring Al Jarreau, and “Call Me Tonight” along with the hits “Baby Don’t Break Your Baby’s Heart” and “Are You The Woman”.

  • His 1985 release “Condition of the Heart” also yielded another Grammy nomination with “The Movie Song”. He wrote and produced “Inside Love” for his musical idol, George Benson.

It was during this time that he met and launched the career of then unknown Kenny G. with the electrifying “Hi How Ya Doin” and “Nighttime In Tribeca”

  • In 1985 at the suggestion of music industry icon, Clive Davis, Kashif teamed up with then- newcomer Whitney Houston. The result was the smash hit “You Give Good Love” which instantly sent her career into the stratosphere. Kashif also produced and was her duet partner on “Thinking About You”, a single track from Whitney’s astounding 17-million selling debut-album.

  • In 1987 he produced “Love Changes”, a chart topper on which Me’lisa Morgan was his duet partner, that was taken from his best selling album of the same name. Also contained on that album was another duet that yielded yet another international hit, the song, “Reservations For Two”. The artist? The legendary Dionne Warwick.

Between 1987 and 1989 Kashif continued to churn out the hits for Jermaine Jackson, The Stylistics, Melba Moore, George Benson, Stacy Lattisaw and others.

  • From 1990 until 1993 Kashif took a well deserved break from recording and spent much of his time in Maui, Hawaii, a favorite vacation spot. “ I was exhausted,” says the ultra creative Kashif. “I had spent so many years in the studio cranking out song after song and touring that it was time to take a break so I could rest and enjoy life a bit.” After a year of relaxation Kashif’s creativity started to demand his attention again. He thought that it was time to go back to work.

  • The prospect of leaving Maui and returning to New York’s famously cold winters was not appealing to Kashif. Always a lover of large bodies of water, in September of 1991 he moved to Pacific Palisades, California, a seaside suburb of Los Angeles but continued his well deserved sabbatical until 1994. “I spent much of my early years in California contemplating what I wanted to do next” says Kashif.

  • In 1996, with an invitation from the famed UCLA Extension program, Kashif created the critically acclaimed “Contemporary Record Production With Kashif”, one of the most successful courses in UCLA Extension history. He also wrote and self-published the highly acclaimed book “Everything You’d Better Know About The Record Industry.” Considered by many to be the music industry bible. It has sold more than 375,000 units to date!

  • Year 2000 was another banner year for Kashif as he produced the theme song for the Para- Olympics, wrote and produced “Brooklyn Breezes” for R&B great Will Downing. He also had the distinct pleasure of co-producing along with George Duke the Duke Ellington Tribute CD for The Duke Ellington Foundation. His contributions included songs featuring Nancy Wilson, Kenny Lattimore, Snookie Young and other original members from Ellington’s band.

  • In September of 2003, Kashif released “Music From My Mind,” a double CD with 15 new songs plus the entire first Kashif LP on Brooklyn Boy Records.

On November 14th, 2004, Kashif was inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame as a “Living Legend”. That year Janet Jackson’s hit “R&B Junkie” utilized a sample of “I’m In Love” written and produced by Kashif.

  • Growing up in the foster care system has inspired Kashif to lend his time and energy to help find ways to improve the lives of the more than 518,000 young people who are in foster care every day in America. In 2006 he founded Team iCare foundation. He spends much of his time working with child-care agencies around the country helping to improve the system, revamping the message and image of foster care and mentoring young people.

  • Kashif University Founded in 2006 by Kashif is an arts and academic after-school program located in Inglewood California for youth in foster care and at risk youth. Students between age 8 and 18 learn music, dance, recording, singing, song writing, piano, drums as well as reading, writing, math, science and more.

  • The goal is to teach children via alternative methods (the arts) how to express themselves and therefore unleash their inner creativity. It is also the goal of Kashif University to assist America’s most vulnerable youth in becoming part of the top ten percentile in American academics.

  • Kashif University services up to 500 youth per day. Supporting partners include, Casey Family Programs (UPS), Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS), Children’s Trust Fund, the Teague Foundation and many others

  • On August 4, 2010 Kashif was honored by the County Of Los Angeles for his ongoing work with youth in foster care. Over the past three years he has received over fifteen awards from various agencies included the United States Senate, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaragosa, Supervisior Michael Antonovitch, California Sate Legislator, Majority Speaker Karen Bass and many others.

  • Undoubtedly, with KASHIF’s career spanning over four decades, with over 70 million records sold worldwide and with the most recommended book on the music business, Kashif continues to be one of the music industry’s most sought after songwriter, producer, and artist. His influence is not only felt and heard in his music, his innovations will benefit the music industry as a whole and will be felt for many generations to come!

  • Wait... 1983 **rubs eyes** WHAT?!

I thought this shit was at least 1989 since forever... Kashif was miles ahead of his time.

  • @j5356972

hence his name Kashif which means discoverer/revealer :D

  • Still in love with this song!!!

Located at 9550 Crenshaw Blvd. in Inglewood, CA., Kashif University offers classes in music, recording, producing, drums, piano, guitar, singin and more. All of the instructors at Kashif University are working professionals.

  • This dude put out some great tunes. I liked a lot of B.T. Express stuff.

Anyway, this track has a great bass line, that will make you want to move.

  • I used 2 mix this with The Whispers "Keep on loving me".

  • Excellent electric bass lines in this song that carry it from start to finish.

  • He honed his chops as a member of BT Express

  • I'm pissed! Today's music is such CRAP!!! Sorry kids- It's true!!

  • Another one of my Kashif favorites....I'm stoned in love with yoooooou :)

  • Something in this reminds me of Freddie Jackscon.

  • @mrsbronze True dat! I used 2 love hearing this on the radio back n my junior year of High School. I used 2 think it was Evelyn Champaign King in there somewhere.

  • @mrsbronze Their all connected some kinda way,Freddie sung back up for Melba Moore while paul laurence and Kashif have a hand in Melba and Freddie's music, same production company.

  • great album back in those days.

    Ashley Holland

  • I could listen to this kind a' music all day long - I m stone in love with this beat! ,-)

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man this is sooooo way back in the day. Think I started high school when this came out, lol. I won't make any comparisons between R&B back then and now but Kashif really knew how to kick out the jams.

  • I love his voice

  • Aren't we lost in MUSIC?

  • An underrated artist and producer during that time.

  • my name is kashif! I searched my name, and this is what came up! LMFAO

  • lol

  • can i get an autograph??? :D

  • Kashif is another one of those artists who is still a favorite. The number of hits this song gets is testament to that. He is another one who needs to shake of the rust, put together a live show and do a tour. He needs to show the current generation that is lost on beats and non sensical rambling what real music is.

  • Deeszzz young so-called artist of today sampling, dubbing all the great artists from the late 70's and 80's don't have a clue as to what good music in like. Being the studio, blood sweat and tears went into many of these grat jamz...

  • Bassline is kickin!

  • XXXXXXXXcelent baseline

  • le plus beau titre de kashif a mon gout

  • my favorite kashif song and this is why he is one of my favorite producers/songwriters in the 80's next to rod temperton, reggie lucus, marcus, and james mutume just like archie said he revlotionized the keyboard to make it sound more like real music rather than do what everybody else was doing like make noise/samples and using beats thats already programed in the keyboard then putting something on top of it(hall and oats did this) says uzipolo-king of decatur

  • Station in Worms, Germany (US Army) back in '83, one of the first albums I bought was this one...timeless music...one helluva producer!

  • Ahh man..washing my dads car to this jam...him letting me use it that nite...Just me and Kashif...

  • the early 80's....great time . Loved this jam and always was into Kashif.

  • I remember this from high school. What a jam!

  • i have been looking for this song for ever wow i even have a video on my page asking whats it called wow i thought i was never gonna find it

  • He has a Greatest Hits cd that came out in the late 90's with this song on it as well as the hit "Changes" which was redone by Jamie Foxx & Mary J Blige on his 1st cd

  • @majestyy2k

in 2004 Kashif released a Double CD

"Music from my mind' which included new material

and his whole debut album "Kashif" 1983 as well

  • @majestyy2k "Love Changes" was a remake by Kashif that was originally done by the band Mother's Finest.

  • @majestyy2k U mean "Love Changes" with Melba Moore in 1987.

  • @majestyy2k Love Changes is the title

  • WBLS in NYC, 1983 - Going to Jones Beach to chill in the evening.

  • What a great oldskool jam!

  • old school back in the day.

  • This is a quality joint. Kashif, Melba, Lilo,Paul,Freddie & Evelyn were smoking hot in the good ole 80s...

  • Kashif now lives in marina del rey, california (beach front suburb community in los angeles) and has written a book on studio/music production. and still works in the music industry in some aspect

  • this is my jam, he had good music and good beats, i need to go to any used record store to purchase the record or cassette tape...this is memories, my mom used to wore out the 8-track in her black "1970's or 80's" rivera" WOW!!! 8-track in a car...im gettin old : (

  • Whatever happened to Kashif?

  • I love this beautiful song !, that is way back when i was 13.

  • Ever cried tears of joy? This does it.

  • Why do we have AKON producing music for '80s stars such as Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Whitney Houston? HE SUCKS, and Kashif is the real deal!

  • You are absolutely right

  • Pannoni you hit the nail on the head. For example, Madonna and Celine Dion use mainsteam producers (William Orbit, et. al) and still sell millions of tunes. I think it is a serious mistake for a veteran artist to use hip-hop producers/ collaborators in an attempt to be hip. Okay, Santana did it for Supernatural, but he is unique, occupying a niche all his own. Plus he had Clive Davis at his back.

  • Nothing like old school music.

  • Subliminal beauty - real music, Kashif in full effect! I love the production he did on 'Underlove' by Melba Moore too, among others.

  • mr archirg i think i love you thanks so much u r the bomb lol

  • Great Song!!.

  • Another Great hit By KASHIF he is my boy i lvoe listening to kashif i wish the kids at my school and my group of friends i run with would enjoy the good old skool grooves liek i do and we could have a flashback party and all hit the disoc ahahhaahha

  • If it hadn't been for Kashif, we might not have heard from Kenny G when we did!!!!

  • Wanna know what a classic is? It's a song that has you wanting to hear it again and again and again. This came out in the era between funk and new jack swing. The synthesizer work was outstanding and Kashif was on the cutting edge of it with his sound.

  • u right remember lilo thomas, vesta, cherelle, alexander o'neal all had similar styles

  • @hilltopboots and we still like to hear it and that is like jaheim puts it Classic & Timeless :D

  • uzipolo, thank you for the info. I will look for the book. And I forgot about Narada Micheal Walden!!! Awesome!!

    Hey thanks alot.

  • Funky funky track!!!

  • GODDAMN! GODDAMN! GODDAMN! GODFUCKINGDAMN! This fatherfucking song is hot!

  • Thank you for the information Archie! I will def look that one up.

  • OMG, I was in love with this man back in the day! His voice, looks...

Does anyone know what ever happened to him??

  • i actually have the 2004 albulm but you need to get the book he has about the music industry it is really good you will not want to put it down he was part of the MIGHTY M productions he was one of my favorite producers in the 80's other than james mtum rod temperton eand narada micheal walden...says uzipolo king of decatur

  • @Mzthang61 im right here baby ;)

  • Great song. The 80's were great times.

  • Classic. I love everything about this song, from the instrumentation, to the melody, to the lyrics. One of the first old school tracks I discovered as a kid, and it hardly gets any better than this. Thanks Archie!

  • This was one of the first songs I heard on KTU when I arrived in New York City from Washington State in '83--It sent CHILLS down my spine--and made me practically howl at the moon--young, alone in the city, my future reflected in every young girl's eyes.....GOD, what a SONG!

just made you wanna dance in the street!(Ok, sometimes I DID...)

  • OMG LIFE WAS SOOOO WONDERFUL

  • all that ////////////////////////////////////

  • so soulful and funky -- .check out the scat-like break...ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni...

  • CLOUDS stands for Cool Lovable Outrageous Unique Disco Sounds...back in the day!!!

  • Any one from Lusaka ,Zambia in the early 80s at CLOUDS disco and the day days of SoulTrain... fantastic times indeed!!

  • I remember when my dad brought this album home from the record store and the smell of the new vinyl album. Memories, memories. 1983 was a great year for R&B and pop music. What times we had!!

  • kashif is very great..by Antonio from Italy

    bye

  • one of my favorite producrs of the 80's (next to rod temperton, quincy jones, mtume) this man turned the game around for the soul heads (untilluther vandross came on the scene, then.look out luther hit the grown running) only diference luther kept doing remakes(which got played out by 1989 and people got tired of hearing him sing 'em.)kashif always had originalmaterial.though he sunf some remakes too, though he was better

  • Even at 41 years of age, this still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Still a choon.

  • thanks for posting!
