In the original article it's clearly stated that the people who view the surveillance footage regularly know what bugs look like when they crawl across, and that it does not look like a bug of any sort. It's also stated that the original surveillance footage on initial viewing was of higher quality and more detail could be discerned. They would have known if it was any kind of bug or spider.

My sugggestions. (1)The sun hits an air-born airplane's body, and bounces down to the ground. But only a tiny shred of the reflection gets through the big tree. The light doesn't bend (although it seems that way), it just "gets through the massive tree foliage" in a manner like someone is walking. (2) It's a possessed donut coming to get the bad cops!
If you dolts look at the tree for asecond and speed it up the tree DOES move. And why would the police station take the time to photoshop something? Other than that, the tree does move and the colors surrounding the tree do some what change. Look harder or get a better computer screen.
Apparently I'm the only one who noticed that it's a still image and not a video....seriously, nothing else except the light moves....not the trees or anything, do they not have wind in Santa Fe?
The pixels/lighting/colour changes slightly, but if you scroll through it, you'll notice it's not actual movement. I suppose it could be a really still day, but it just looks like obvious manipulation to me. I'm more prone to believe the aphid theory, I can sort of see where they're seeing the shadow of the bug on the lense.
The trees do move—just not very much. (It is helpful to view the clip at about quadruple speed.)
The object is obviously near-field, as the trees do not occlude it; it is nowhere near the ground.
It does look like a bug on the window (NOT the lens); and the angle and distance of the dark spot are consistent with an inner-pane shadow of an outer-pane object. (They do need to take their surveillance cam more seriously, and, at the very least, keep that stinkin' window reasonably clean!)
I agree with the public defender that it is a seed from the Cottonwood tree. It is lighter than everything else because it is in the sunlight whereas what the camera is focused on, the police car etc. is in mostly shade. The "shadow" is a relic either from the shadow hitting the lense or from the image processing.
That's clearly the shadow of the object. I have also examined the frames close up and at no point is the so-called 'light ball' transparent. If it were moving along the trajectory that it is presumed to follow by 'believers' then it would increase in size as it approaches the camera. Finally its light reflection level is perfectly consistant with an ordinary object, unless you would like to claim that the street itself is also emitting light.
The problem with the bug supposition is that it doesn't account for the translucent shape that moves along with it underneath. If it was a bug crawling across the lens it would be far blurrier (not like it's already poor quality) and it also wouldn't appear to give off light. As the light ball passes in front of the cruiser you can see right through it.
It's a bug on the dirty glass in front of the camera. The shape that follows it is just the bug's shadow on the dirt on the glass. It's easy enough to verify by putting another bug on the glass when the sun is shining on it.

ok the trees are hard to say but there is actually something just behind the car that is movieng and it moves a couple of time throught the video.

The pixels/lighting/colour changes slightly, but if you scroll through it, you'll notice it's not actual movement. I suppose it could be a really still day, but it just looks like obvious manipulation to me. I'm more prone to believe the aphid theory, I can sort of see where they're seeing the shadow of the bug on the lense.

The trees do move—just not very much. (It is helpful to view the clip at about quadruple speed.)
The object is obviously near-field, as the trees do not occlude it; it is nowhere near the ground.
It does look like a bug on the window (NOT the lens); and the angle and distance of the dark spot are consistent with an inner-pane shadow of an outer-pane object. (They do need to take their surveillance cam more seriously, and, at the very least, keep that stinkin' window reasonably clean!)

I agree with the public defender that it is a seed from the Cottonwood tree. It is lighter than everything else because it is in the sunlight whereas what the camera is focused on, the police car etc. is in mostly shade. The "shadow" is a relic either from the shadow hitting the lense or from the image processing.

That's clearly the shadow of the object. I have also examined the frames close up and at no point is the so-called 'light ball' transparent. If it were moving along the trajectory that it is presumed to follow by 'believers' then it would increase in size as it approaches the camera. Finally its light reflection level is perfectly consistant with an ordinary object, unless you would like to claim that the street itself is also emitting light.

The problem with the bug supposition is that it doesn't account for the translucent shape that moves along with it underneath. If it was a bug crawling across the lens it would be far blurrier (not like it's already poor quality) and it also wouldn't appear to give off light. As the light ball passes in front of the cruiser you can see right through it.

It's a bug on the dirty glass in front of the camera. The shape that follows it is just the bug's shadow on the dirt on the glass. It's easy enough to verify by putting another bug on the glass when the sun is shining on it.

Yep. That's the first thing that came to my mind, too. It's a small bug - spider or aphid.
I wouldn't say I'm a skeptic, per se, but that film is pretty self explanatory.

It is a spider or some kind of whitish insect crawling across the lens. You can see the legs moving easily.
