Her score was good enough for what she needed academically. But I agree with you. To score really high, for example above 110, you will need to have some really good test-taking strategies, especially for the speaking and writing sections of the TOEFL iBT.

Spending two weeks in Cancun will definitely help you to improve your speaking and listening skills. However, reading your facebook page will not work very well with extensive reading. The vocabulary will be too simple and will not help to improve your academic reading proficiency.

I'm going to call BS on your equation. What you seem to be saying is that she read 26 college level books in 8 months. That's about one book every 8 days. I'm not going to say that it's impossible, but highly improbable to say the least.

Reading one book a week is about what it will take for you to significantly improve your reading proficiency. My wife reads an 800 page book in 3 days. Think about how much you can read if your reading speed is 350-500 words per minute. The important thing is that you make a goal to read about 45 minutes a day for at least 6 months. After that period of time, you should see an improvement in your reading speed, your concentration, and your comprehension.

Hi Michael and others, i need 100/120 frot this ******* test and i consider the whole thing as very difficult! Michael you have just shown us some great statistics you maade by yourself. Maybe do you know someone who is an average native who doesn´t know that much about the TOEFL strategy and tips as you do and who did the TOEFL test? I know natives can´t participate on the real test but I mean how hogh score can some native do in some sample test? 100? 110? or full 120 ???Thanks for response!

Most native speakers could probably score higher than 80/120 on the test. Like you, they will find the writing and speaking sections of the test difficult.

Stop using a notebook and start using notecards.

Depends on what you want to do with your score. For this student, 82 was a great score considering the fact that she was an intermediate level student. Additionally, that she scored 82 at her current level without using any TOEFL materials was remarkable. Finally, 82 was a lot higher than the required 61 that she needed to gain entrance into California State University, San Bernardino. So she was more than satisfied with her score.
