@daCritic1000 I always thought they were ingrained personally. Don't think I could name one person who hasn't heard of them; and I know quite an assorted bunch.
It's really brilliant and touching ! I need to get myself acquainted with the remainder of their albums for granted. Greetings from sometime (slightly) Celtic Poland.
the pogues are amazing and magical in ireland.buy their album.they are so fantastic.the fairytale of new york is just a masterpiece along with their many songs.dirty ole town is antoher classic and whiskey in the jar.wish more people had realised how good they were.bben listening to them since the 80s love you Shane mc Gowan
You have no idea how long I have searched for this song because I had it in my head for so many years. I heard it when I was a little kid in my fathers car. I hated all his music when I was young. He said: "You are going to like it someday." I didn't believe him.
And years passed by. 12 years later I could cry from this.
@daCritic1000 ......I think live performances were probably always a bit risky with McGowan. After as many gin and apples as he liked to drink, I'm surprised he didn't fall off the stage. Still there's nobody else that could replace his voice ...... he's a legend. But I do seem to remember that his alcoholism had a fair bit to do with the bands decline......but maybe that's wrong?
@polmaccaba Cait O'Rierden, not sure if I spelled it right. Kisty McCool was on Fairytale Of New York on the next CD. Cait left the group when she married Elvis Costello.
Everyone loves The Pogues, the Punks and Metal heads and everything in between, all walks of life and all kinds of people.

I heard this New Year's Eve 1984 when The Pogues played the ICA. Good times.
