I love working for COMCAST and I was ask to move to a union shop and I can tell you i can see the difference the union mentality holds themselves back.where I was getting 4-5% raise every year based on good work I did,and now I am lock in to 2% raise from collecting bargaining
I love working for comcast I was ask to go to a union shop to help out.In the non-union shop I am a all round technician i did everything. In the union shop u can see the barriers the union Mentality put up just on the little of job task. The employes dont really care of the customer just what the union can get for them thats why I am in this shop now to help the customer ,,,no politics.
I currently work inhouse for comcast and must say that they don't give a rats ass about there employees, it's all about what's best for the "company" a.k.a CEO's, they constantly make up different things we have to do that are "more efficient" a.k.a "lest cost" to the company. I tend to speak up at our weekly meetings and this yearly review I got marked down as bantering frequently in meetings which will affect my annual raise!! LOL!!!! The care ratio is about..employees..35%...CEO's...65%!!!
Comcast Corp. says that profit leaped 53 percent in the second quarter 2009 even though the recession and competition squeezed its cable TV and Internet businesses.
Second-quarter revenue at the Philadelphia giant rose 4.5 percent to $8.9 billion, compared with $8.6 billion a year earlier.
Yet, they felt the NEED to cut our benefits and 401K?
Comcast Corp. spent nearly $3.3 million in the second quarter to lobby Congress on executive pay. Comcast lobbied against the Excessive Pay Capped Deduction Act of 2009, a bill that would stop tax deductions on excessive compensation given to any employee. Excessive pay is defined as any amount above 100 times the average employee's compensation at the company.
Average Comcast employee = $34,000/yr
Last year, Brian Roberts CEO received $24.7M as calculated by the Associated Press.
Well let's see, Comcast employees got a letter from Comcast this week stating to be ready for "Your Benefit Plan for 2010". Comcast paying less of a percentage of our Healthcare premiums, Premiums are going up, co-pays are going up, 401k match going DOWN. The letter does not go into detail about the net dollar amounts, but they have never sent a letter to "prepare" ourselves for the usual yearly increases in costs that we get every year.
I developed TelephoneTechTalkcom to allow communications workers from around the neighborhood and the country to communicate with each other through free message boards, become a resource to our fellow communications employees. Landline, wireless, fiber optics, equip. manufact. and cable. A brand new service. Professionals have experience with the needs of communications workers. TelephoneTechTalkcom TheChatBoardscom
I worked for Comcast in the San Francisco Bay Area Sales Office where Robert Villareal treats the Sales workers like pure expendable garbage and lies through his teeth and thinks up new ways daily to screw them out of their hard earned commissions....TRUTH!!!
COMCAST is f**king shady, trying to pro-rate, or pre-charge for service people haven't even used yet, & sending out even shadier sub-contractors to do service calls, one "employee" tried to hop my locked back fence even when I called the police on him!
if your fence is blockin access to the utility connection then they could knock your fence down if they needed too. They have government rights to the easements for any means necessary. just like the power co and the phone co. and if that means hoppin your fence the thats what it takes, sounds alot better than knockin it down.
I Was just lettin U know how the easement laws are. Its not a load of bullshit. Check you local city town hall for the easement codes of operation on easement access.
Working for comcast is the worst decision i have ever made in my life. They are slave drivers and treat us like we are there prop, My life has gone to shit since i started doing cable with comcast.
"Funny how people are saying comcast is great when most of the trucks I see say "contractor" hmm makes it look goos working for a company that can just jump you as an employee. "
Funny how the union has it in their contract that inhouse only perform TCs and 100% of the install work must go to contractors by contract. Job security eh?
Now what?
Less boot money, no tuition reimbursment, no tech level increase pay raise, less employee discounts, no participation in monetary incentives? keep it.
Funny how people are saying comcast is great when most of the trucks I see say "contractor" hmm makes it look goos working for a company that can just jump you as an employee. I am a proud IBEW memeber and I remeber when our office wasnt in a union. Horrible knowing I was getting screwed. As soon as 6 months after we became union they decided to close the office if it wasn't for our contract and having a no lay off clause I wouldnt still be with the company. EDUCATE yourself! You do have a voice
if you are asking those types of questions young firefly, maybe its time you do a little research on the ibew site or on the right of the comcast workers fight back page. I sir have 3 kids that i have already spoonfed. its your life.. i have been where you are and made my own decision and sought my own answers. good luck
continued..you need to think about who your managers are.. if they are that good to you and that good of managers then no guarantee that they will not move on.. you are left hoping that the next one is as good.. No guarantees for some basics... I was never built on that. I like to count on me
if organized labor is dying why are so many still trying to get firefighter, police, national grid, amtrak, mbta, verizon, keyspan, ge and town and city jobs? How many employees has Comcast scored from these places? Comcast wants the young, uneducated worker who wants nothing more than gas, promises, and beer money at the end of the week. You can be one of them or become something more. Your choice... jump off the life of subsidy. make your hard work pay off.
I think this is ridiculous. If they want to be in the union, THEY'LL CALL!!!! My boyfriend works for Comcast and loves it. He is eligible for promotion every few months and is well supported by his superiors. The fact that you people stalk them when they leave is ridiculous. You do this at just about every meeting and you've gotten no where! GIVE UP! If they want to join they will!!!!
Please only comment when you know what you are talking about. Eligible for promotion every few months? What is his title then?
Comcast technicians have started this organizing drive and will be responsible for its success, not the IBEW.
Firefly, where does your "boyfriend" work?
Again, feel free to leave comments about this very important issue to a lot of good people, only when you know what the HELL it is you are talking about.
I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. In fact, he just got his promotion recently. Thank you rayrules for realizing I AM speaking the truth. Just because a few workers approached you because they are upset about their jobs does NOT mean the whole company needs you. Take them then! These guys work very hard and most are happy; if you're not, LEAVE! Like any other job, if you don't like how things are run get out of there, simple as that. Lay off!
you may know what your talking about Comcast gun, however you need to recheck your statements because "he just got his promotion" should say "i just got my promotion" It would make it all so much more beleivable...just keep livin the dream man.
hey kfirefly. good for your 17 year old boyfriend. Just dont marry or reproduce with him... despite how hard he works he will never make it... keep believing though. i am still waiting to win the lottery too.
First of all, you have no clue what you're talking about. How will the union change what he does?! Oh and by the way, he is NOT 17, is NOT undereducated, and does NOT use his money for beer. But please, keep talking because you seem to know a lot.
one more thing. i did not mean to insult you by guessing at your age.. it was likely your perspective that made me think that you were younger on the life experience trail.
I don't know about the guy in Beverly but you don't just get fired, no matter where you work. Union or no union. As for the raises. I'm eligible for a one every six months. I don't do anything special. I show up to work every day and do my job the best I can. Haven't missed a raise yet.
See, that's what I mean. Do you believe that's true of Comcast,I'm in danger of losing my job over a phone call? Most of the "Truth" seems manufactured to fuel a fire. Trust me, I have an open mind about the whole thing but the IBEW is feeding us crap. If they want to "support" us then why make up all the BS? Tell me what you have to offer, don't put down my company. If we really hate our jobs as much as you say, what difference would it make to have your "support". Let's deal in facts.
I've seen the IBEW inside of our shops. The guys had their own table and we had the opportunity to ask all the questions we wanted. Why don't you try that instead of trying to trick us with a bunch of made-up slander?
The IBEW and its members would be more than happy to be invited into your shops where we could answer questions of Comcast technicians. Even more so if you are willing to invite us to your "shop" and guarantee that managers will not be looking over the events and using against workers.
Let me know avenger if this is an official invite...
I'd actually like to hear what you guys have to offer. I may sound anti-union but I just don't approve of how you've been going about it. As for an "official invite", I think that has to come from management and I can't speak on their behalf. But, as I said, I've seen it before. And I don't care if their watching. They want us to make an "informed" decision, they shouldn't be able to hold it against me for gathering informatio.
check out the IBEW site. full of information or make a call and find out.. we are here to give you info. it is up to you to access it and make a decision.
