Umineko is easily on the same level of gore with Higurashi but I'd say instead of being on a level of disturbing imagery, it's actual 'horror' rather than the 'thriller' feel of Higurashi.

I know this series will probably be as great(if not greater) as Higurashi, but i still can't shrug off the feeling of uneasyness of finding out everything in Higurashi was just Bernkastel's and Lanmadelta's game, and Keiichi, Rika, Takano, and everyone else were just pieces.

There are reasons why there are characters that resemble those two and unfortunately those are spoilers.

The world of Umineko isn't necessarily an alternate world of Higurashi if you mean by the same characters. It is a completely different story.
