  • My horse already has a thick tail so I don't need a hair exstension but whenever I my other horse he/she may need one so I am glad I watched this so I can be prepared lol

  • A horse only needs an extension if it has a thin or dull tail...that horse has a plenty long/thick tail...

  • or......you could stop ripping out your horses tail with a brush, comb it gently, and let it grow

  • what plug in am I missing

  • When I go in shows I don't add extensions its wrong to have to pay and go through the trouble of it all just to please someone you don't even know I go in showing MY horse not one that has all this fake hair and things in it MY ORIGINAL PERFECT BEAUTIFUL HORSE that should not be changed

  • If I had a horse, I wouldn't use fake hair for his/her tail.. I would love the horse just the way it came.. With or with out a full tail.

  • Thanks this was so helpful.

    @MsNicoleTarbuck

We use fake tails because it shows the judge we want our horses appearance to be just as great as ours, if not better.

Fake tails add health to the horses tail..making a sweeping look.

It's not cheating (But I know where your getting at) it just makes the tail look full. Judges and riders LOVE a full tail.

It's a big thing in all the Horsie Worlds.

Most everyone uses a blunt fake tail (Wider at the bottom) because it looks very sharp. :)

  • MsNicoleTarbuck- The thing is that the judge isnt judging the horse on it tail or coat like cats and dogs. Tail extensions just make the horse more presentable at a show. and more appealing to the eye. Its annoying how people talk about things they have no clue about.

  • So what you're telling us is that your show horse is being judged on something that is entirely not their own and totally fake? I get that it makes them look pretty, but if they don't have it naturally, that seems an awful lot like cheating... Ever notice how such things would never be allowed in shows for other animals like say dogs and cats? I own a Sphynx (hairless) cat, and he has a little hair on his tail, but shaving it off would disqualify him. Same principle...

  • @MsNicoleTarbuck Thats all horse shows are. Or any show for that matter- paying for another persons opinion. I dont love fake tails, but I dont have anything against them either. Not every horse is blessed with a full beautiful tail (that being said though, Im not dropping money on one though for my mares thin TB tail lol)

  • @MsNicoleTarbuck I think we all see what you're getting at. But if you spend like, some $500 at a show, and your horse rubbed his tail out, etc., you wouldn't want to waste your money, and have the judge not even watch your horse. It's more eye appealing to have a horse with a full tail. I for one, would not count against a fake tail.

  • @MsNicoleTarbuck its like a beauty pagent for horses my gelding moves like a dream but is half tb and has a 2inch tail it makes it look better

  • Why would a horse need a extension?? lolz

  • WHY?!

  • the tieing is way to complicated

  • Comment removed

  • any colour you want, send them a small snippet of your horses tail, and they will match it.

  • @horselove12madikylie a red roan horse can have a variety of tail colors. there is no red roan tail color. it will always either be a mixture of chestnut, flaxen and gray and depending on what colors are in your horse's tail, you buy an extension to match.

  • @razrbladefaerie idc anyway this was sum1 elses account tht they jst gave 2 me

  • The video was good, but the camera zoomed out and when it came back in it was blurry, so I didn't really understand how you tied it. Do you just knot it a bunch of times or something?

  • Kelli, thanks so much for this helpful video. I put my first tail in yesterday for an AQHA show this weekend. After having been out of showing for 15 years, this has been a learning experience!

  • People have extentions in there horses tails because it makes them more fuller for when they are at shows and makes them look thick and lush :)

  • Why would a horse need extensions? lol

  • It's for breed shows, like APHA and AQHA.

  • @OBNOXlOUS i use one for my horse because even though she has a nice long tail, it is not thick by ANY means. using a fake tail makes it look fuller, and nicer for shows.

  • @OBNOXlOUS because...some people like to have their horse's tail looking nice if the tail is short

  • @OBNOXlOUS- If the horses tail is thin for shows you want a fake tail. Go to a show 90% of people will have fake tails....

  • @OBNOXlOUS it's generally for when they show. It makes the tail look alot fuller and more presentable.

  • @OBNOXlOUS if the horse has a poor diet and exercise program and thus a thin tail. its for the same reason people use gadgets, drug their horses etc. when you lack the fundamentals and are abundant in stupidity you resort to artifical means!

  • @OBNOXlOUS Some horses loose their tails and have very little. I know a horse that had hardly any hair on her tail

  • Sometimes you would want an extension to fill out a tail and make a better looking picture in the show ring, especially if you have a horse that has rubbed or ripped part of their tail out.

  • @OBNOXlOUS Ummmm maybe for shows to make there tail thicker ?

  • @OBNOXlOUS some people ride horses that have hardly any tail, so for a show, they add a tail to make it longer and thicker (:

  • @OBNOXlOUS because some horses have really thin tails and for a show ring its beter to hav a extention and u get more points plus it looks beta

  • @OBNOXlOUS For showing....duh

  • Thanks a bundle! expertvillage, this vid was really helpful.
