Sounds like Koichi Namiki did the SDI soundtrack. He also did music for Thunder Blade and Galaxy Force. It seems he really loved bass riffs.

You're mistaken. All of SDI's music was done by Katsuhiro "Funky K.H" Hayashi. He also did all of Quartet.

I loved this game. It was called "Global Defense" on the Sega Master System in the U.S. ^_^

And there's a Japanese Tiger LCD port of it which is simply called "Space Fight" in the US version.
