does any one know where to get this version? the version available from amazon is different. Personaly , i think the one posted here is nicer. Thanks fr posting, by the way. great stuff!
Yes Sir. professional Seagulls. Keep The spirit of Rex Lawson going. These were Rex's band after his death. I wish I know what Atabala means, Boy this group can play. Wow! Thanks for sharing.
Sun in shining, TB is having breakfast, TB Radio is playing one of Groovemonzter great uploads. Cleaning the house, and later on that day, seriously skanking.
Hi summersunt, Rex lawson died over 30 years ago in a motor accident a long time ago on his way to start a residency performance at a club in Warri, Delta state Nigeria.
It looks like you are right. I contacted Likembe and it turns out that he has the track done by the Professional Seagull's on a different CD and they are the same! So it appears whoever put out "Rusty Highlife" made a mistake. I'm correcting the title now. Thank you very much!
Thanks for your reply, but the recordings u have ,were done by the Professional Seagulls and if the name/credit is made more prominant. u will get lots of positive replies. NB. I'm impressed by your full collection. collection
This is a mystery then. The credit on the back of the CD says "Eastern Stars Dance Band (vocals Emmanuel Vita)" but mistakes are made on CD credits all the time. You might be right. I'll do some checking and see if I can find the answer.
I think you know more about Nigerian music than me but this is what Likembe says in his post:
"B.E. Batta and Emmanuel Vita of the Eastern Stars Dance Band were from Nembe in Rivers State. They had played with Rex Lawson's band before striking out on their own. Their Eastern Stars scored some notable successes, including "Atabala Woman" and "Afro Baby," which were also hits for the Professional Seagulls, Lawson's former backup band."

So I think it was done by both groups.

This is currently my favorite song... it's soooo cool.
From that CD "Rusty Highlife Vol 1." Nuff nice tracks there. Maybe I'll put up a few more tracks.
