As a young kid I stayed with these people for a few weeks in about 1980...they had this album on high rotation , not saying I am a fan, but this song got drummed into my head big time cos I already knew a lot of Banjo Paterson stuff ...I stumbled across this today and it took me back1Were they from Canberra this band?
It amazes me that other people know of Wallis & Matilda. We listened to it religiously at the farm growing up. It brings back such amazing memories. Thank you for uploading.
Brilliant and I wish that I had known about Wallis and Matilda when I was still living in Australia, but never heard of them, I mist so much due to my work in isolated places in PNG, But thank you for putting this on You Tube, I am married to a South African and have three children and we love listing to this band and all that they have produce, thank you.Mike
this is a really pretty song, and i used to love it when i was 8 or 9.when did it come out?1980? 81? i remember hearing it on the radio all the time, and its great to hear it after so many years.
@jxxxjppp 1980 I believe. It reached #30 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report) and was Wallis and Matilda's only charting single. Great song though, love their work.
And they say there's nothing useful on the Internet! Thanks for posting this - it's got a family member in it and we didn't think there were any useful live recordings.
With tears in my eyes I Thank You for this. I have recited and played this for friends over the years as a ridgy didge Oz anthem. Finally to find you here, old chum. What a
didn't these guys do a more electric version of this song? if i remeber the album had a red cover sleeve. my dad bought it too. must be a dad thing, i know all of us kids loved it, infact as an adult i bought a book of pattersons verse based on my memory of this album
I remember this clip from back in 1980 and have search for it ever since, I feared I'd never see it again, thank you for posting it. What a fantastic contemporary version.
I can't tell you how excited I am to see this. I've been listening to this tribute for years and wondering about the people behind the incredible music. It's wonderful to put some faces to the amazing sounds. Thank you so, so much !!
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember every song word for word on the pioneers albums, my dad put it on tape and we would play it on the way to see our horses everyday! Its been 15yrs and it felt like yesterday since i herd this song..So many memories. The man from iron bark......the man from snowy river, thankyou for letting me relive so many good times.
