to pentadactylon: I love Mick Taylor also but haven't you ever heard of Duane Allman? To say that he is in the second row is ludicrous and tells me you really don't know what you're talking about.
@gitpicker27 Duane Allman blows Mick Taylor out of the water. Sorry. Go listen to a live version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" or "Whipping Post". "Statesboro Blues" if you want to hear why he was and remains the best electric slide guitar player of all time.
Mick Taylor is totally unrecognizable to me from 40 years ago. thought he was blonde haired and to kinda gentle ( not a mad man) and really paid no attention to him whatsoever. But can feel his pain and I think he might just be the best guitar player of the blues.
mick taylor is a great guy. i met him in woodstock, ny 2 years ago after his concert at the bearsville theater...he came out to sign stuff after the show. he drinks rum and coke..
Saw him solo in santa rosa, Ca. The 'Daily Planet ' I think it was at the time, in the early 90's :-) Great gig ...And wish he would come back ! ...it's called ' The Last Day Saloon ' , now :-) It's a better club, Mick ! ...come out and play ! :-)
His oustanding guitar solos were live on Get yer ya ya's out---Sympathy for the Devil and Satisfcation. His best solos in the studio were Sway and time waits for no one. Taylor's fast playing left people mezmerized and in a trance....He truly is the "whirling dervish" of rock!
@bobscoodles I believe Keith played the lead on that one. I will have to defer to others on that but I believe (listening to the studio and live versions from that period of time) that Keith was playing lead on that one.
@IdolHans Lol oustanding solo live ? pff listen STP TOUR or Brussels affair 72 / 73 .. It's not the same Taylor than 1969 .. He is the maestro ! particulary listen love in vain or gimme shelter in 72 ..
@fondofrory I've got a lot of that 72 and 73 Stones live material. Yes, the cassette tapes broke decades ago but the internet made that material easy to get again!
If you saw him on the street, you'd think he was just another guy who likes to drink beer, but he's probably one of the greatest guitarists in history.
He was 20 years old in most of the photos and film of him you today...the year he joined the stones. He was 20 years old at Altamont, the video of him here is 35 years later when he was 55. He looks pretty normal..not much of a rock star...never really was.
Last night I was watching the new docu on Exile with my dad, saw recent snippets of interview with Mick Taylor, he looks terrible, fat, senile and kinda in a daze. Google him there's an article on him about his current living conditions in this nasty old unkept shack, dirt poor, up to his neck in debt, really quite sad. He was a great musician, it's really a shame he had to end up like this.
@psychill22 Yeah? Well? That's just "the Blues". It's how a lot of blues Musicians end up. We all have our "bad habits" and addictions. Taylor thought he was "too good" to be a Rolling Stone. They're still rolling; and he is dead-broke; over-weight; and nearly forgotten. Not by ME! Or you. Not "our Fault". Keith R. is a Survivor. Mick T. is a "loser". A Brilliant, Gifted, Talented "loser". But, like many of "us".....he didn't make the best Choices.
@swiggy58a Mick Taylor left the Stones because they wouldn't give him the co-writing credits he deserved for certain songs, not due to his beliefs of "being better than the rest of the band." Please do research before talking.
@swiggy58a A loser for leaving your favourite band? A loser because we now have the gift of hindsight? Hindsight is always 20/20. If he had of stayed and died of drugs that would make him a winner? He made a choice and lived with it. He left the band at a young age still in his early 20's. Sometimes we all make choices we regret. That doesn't make him a loser. It's being human.
He has changed so much..even his accent has changed.
But he's been through alot of problems healthwise and i'm glad he still plays with the fire & intensity needed for the Blues..plus he has a sincere personality.
I don't know much Finnish. Why does everybody, wxcept Taylor have dark skin, like they've had to much sun?!?

Mick Taylors' first solo album has two instrumentals I want played at my funeral - Mick plays the guitar so it sings - as it was meant to.

If Ronnie is too busy with his solo or Small Faces tour, does anyone think Mick could join the Stones again for their farewell tour next year?
