i love this music, but i know nothing about ballet, and have never seen ballet. so why for the first time in my life did i have tears watching something. is it the music, the ballet or both. that was just amazing.
Anorexic is a scientific term and medical condition, you can still have a ballerina's body and be anorexic ... but i think she is very healthy if she can perform such dance !
В этой музыке есть что-то средневековое, фанатичное, фатальное и очень красивое. Так как и должно быть. Эта часть балета самая лучшая. Во всех смыслах. И как музыка. И как постановка.
@msinvincible2000 She probably is. I'm not all certain who put this together but it's of some notability since it is so well put together, if not just down right famous. Anyone who is that much in the public eye want's nothing more than to remain there, and can you blame them? If I were famous I'd do anything to stay there. It sounds shallow but it's honest. With that it's also very likely that she just practices dancing these very hard pieces so much it's impossible to keep any weight on.
Comments on the greatness of the Soviet Russia are stupid. It's the people, the men, women and the composers who are fabulous in the story of this big country and not this period and its difficult end...
yeah, but still the habitat, the society they're are brought up, makes them, who they are in a significant matter. The values and upbringing in soviet Eastern Europe were quite different than in the capitalistic world of the west. You cannot say that the Soviet Russia didn't have its' influence on creating great people. First of all, it gave the opportunity to evolve, develop their talent to many children and young people regardless of their wealth.
@alexandreleleu1 Soviet Russia was horrible and disgusting. More died under the hand of Stalin than did Hitler, but it's worse with Stalin, those were his own people. He let the food rot rather than let it go to the people. Whatever composers came out of it would never compromise for the horrible things that did, they where simply the small shred of goodness that came out of the disgusting evil that is Soviet Russia.

Absolutely beautiful, words cannot express the power and love, only watching The Ballet through the expression of dance can you realise what the heart is feeling.
@cheradinine8 Without a DOUBT! Its so powerful and beautiful, Ballet music on it's own isn't so interesting you just listen to it for fun, however this really is beautiful. It's really assertive and powerful, but the ballet dancers make it beyond words. I wish I could watch this whole ballet...
You rarely see it performed as a ballet. Its a little difficult. Not that I am Ninjinsky or nothing. But I don't think many people have made successful or lasting choreographs, of this music.
I am a pianist, and his music is tough, he was a genius but probably the most user friendly composer.
He played his 7th sonata and in the finale the audience was not sure if they would all loose their hearing or the piano would just fall into splinters.
Beautiful direction that really gives us the sense of what the company is doing, and not just the principals, love the camera right down front but wonder how it didnt get in the way of the audience? A stunning, reserved job Mr or Ms Director
The technique is undeniably exquisite, but it's still so damn primitive that they build a coreography by putting a dozen dancers performing the exact same poses and movements, and then they will plaster a leading couple to break the monotony... not to speak of the fact that the music and the coreography match each other like Danny DeVito and Schwarzenegger.
Stickspert, if you really want to hear another of John Williams's influences for the Imperial March, listen to "Mars" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets."
i have a question that is bothering me right now... checking prokofjev's The dance of the knights act on youtube, drove me to a conclusion that there are several different types of dance, yet this one is for me the best one...
but can someone axplain how come, there are so many different versions of this dance? and also, if i want to see this particularry version of dance when i go see a ballet, what should i look for?
About comparisions between Tchaikovsky's R&J and Prokofiev's R&J: both ballets are great, music in both is genial. The main difference is personal autor's view on this story. Tchaikovsky's ballet is mostly about romantic things. About love and tragedy of two lovers. Prokofiev's ballet is not just about love, but about war and hostility between two families. So this version is less soft and tender, but more intense and militant.
Now that you mention it... yeah.. I never even noticed that before. Heroes 3 was the shit back in the day, played it for hours. More games should use classic musical pieces like this
Recently in my music class my teacher asked the class: "Do you know which two composers wrote an overture for Romeo & Juliet?" I responded "Were they Tchaikovsky and PROFOKIEV?" For my stupid mispronunciation of a Russian composer I cannot enter a single music class without being made fun of for the incident.
@acesvi I find it disheartening that many people do not embrace the mistakes of humanity. What happened with "To Err is Human." Do not be shamed, sir or ma'am, you learned, you're alive, pass on your mistake, like you do now, and help others.
@Stickspert Of couse, John Williams sucks. Listen to Mahler, Prokovief, Stravinsky, Wagner, Vaughan Williams, you'll hear all those Danny and other John Williams.
@Stickspert I'm sorry but it's not "the guy that composed the imperial march", but THE composer who has mixed modern and romantic music together, the composer who has composer for the greatest soloist and orchestras in the world, and probably the must sucessful composer of the USA.
John Williams was inspired by Prokofiev, and by many other composers, if someone said what you said on every video of a composer who has inspired Williams, his name would appear on all classical videos....
actually the entire period of romanticism in classical music inspired John Williams. George Lucas played a lot of the classical music for Williams to give him an idea of what he wanted. Prokofiev and Richard Wagner were most likely among that music.
I would argue that Williams was also obviously inspired by Gustav Holst's "Mars - Bringer of War" and others. Wikipedia has an own article on "Star Wars music" and also names William Walton and Igor Stravinsky as sources of inspiration for the score of Episode IV. The Imperial March was of course not introduced before Ep. V.
J'ai été à la derniere est je fus émerveillé !!!!!!! de la beauté des décors les danseurs étaient géniaux et les musiciens parfait !!!!!! quel beau souvenir ! BRAVOOOO
A very Russian waltz--but not Tchaivkovsky style. Think about when it was written: 1930's, Prokofiev's friends (and ex wife) being sent to the gulags and never coming back. Stalin. Mass starvation/execution. No, that was not the right time to write a cheerful ballet.
This reminds me why I hated ever going to the ballet - this is even way, way worse than the Nutcracker. Horrible dancing - especially at the beginning - really heavy; and why is this russian instead of Italian - it's Romeo and Juliet! Love Prokofiev's music though -the one redeeming feature.
@LTTPUK I agree that the dancing could be better. Check out "Ballet - Romeo and Juliet - Bolshoy Theatre" instead! (sorry, I can't post a link here...)
@lpycb42 Thank you for pointing that out - I see your social skills are as lacking as your capacity to comprehend what's actually said. The costumes look more russian influenced (although I could be wrong), but the story is set in Verona. I don't think you'll find that I said anything about what country it was played in, and in fact this excerpt is from a performance played in France. Let's leave it there so that your brain has time to catch up with your independently operated mouth.
@LTTPUK Ever considered that maybe, MAYBE, that was made to honor Prokofiev, who just happens to be Russian? Now I'll let your brain assimilate that for a little bit.
@LTTPUK It is "heavy" imo that's intentional. After all this contrasts the families warring attitudes against the love and light attitude of Romeo and Juliet in the middle of the scene. Anyway, I do not think it is horrible dancing, it is quite beautiful and effective in showing what is going on. We can agree on the love for Prokofiev's music though :).
this is how depression feels,i dont mean that in a negative way.but when you are in that depressed state, this can actual ly make u feel so good ,like a high ,this is music that reaches my damaged soul & lol at "This kind of music scares black people" comment below

@tinjiano thanks for the heads up - yes - much better dancing and costumes; but I still hate ballet! lol

@LTTPUK so because Romeo and Juliet are italian they can't be played in any other country? Your logic is kind of flawed and stupid.

@Khang112 I admit its heavy--but remember the time it was written. Joe Stalin==Darth Vader. Prokofiev was literally under the gun.
