Thank you for posting this film. It was available to watch instantly for awhile on Netflix, but then they pulled it. And I needed my Kiefer Sutherland fix! I'm happy he survived at least!
Walken's character is based on a real-life criminal named Bruce Johnston, and he really did try to have his own son killed. It's horrifying to know that there really are such people in the world. This movie scared me more than most horror films because it was so brutal and so real.
OH MY GOD HE COULD'VE SHOT HIM IN THE GOTDAMN LEG OR ARM SHIT BOTH! IF I'MA BE SHOT UP AND LIVE THEN YOU GONE BE SHOT UP AND LIVE. AT LEAST MAKE IT EVEN!!!!!!!!! WELL PARTIALLY LOL HE WOULD HAVE TO KILL HIS HOMEBOYS AND WIFE TO REALLY MAKE IT EVEN AND THAT WOULD DOWN GRADE HIS CHARACTER. BUT STILL SHOOT THAT BITCH IN THE LEG- SOMETHIN'!
I saw this movie for the fist time, I will have to say a "sleeper movie", I mean you have everything is this movie on top of that is based on a true story. How can you as a Father/Dad kill one of your own son's and try too killed the other one and killed his girlfriend, I mean damn you don't have a soul and conscience.
Good movie. There is special place in Hell for people like that!
@loupremo I thought he was pretty intimidating in True Romance. "Now, I know you know where they are. Tell me, before I do some damage you won't walk away from."
Lmao whats with the ending?? The 80's really sucked as far as movies go. Christopher Walken was pretty great though. Oh, and the soundtrack was terrible lol :P
What an awesome haunting movie. Penn was at his explosive and vulnerable best. And Walken was pure evil. My brother told me to watch this when I was about 20. I was stunned. My Dad, my bro and I have always been close, through darkness and light. So this hit home.
Christopher Walken had (and still has) a fear of guns. He makes a point of checking every firearm used in his scenes and compulsively checks the blanks and chambers before and after every take.
Just before the director yelled action on this final take, Sean Penn signaled a crewman to bring another gun - giving Christopher no time to check it. The terrified reaction you see here was completely authentic.
The movie is based on the life and crimes of Bruce Johnston, Sr. He committed a lot of his crimes in Pennsylvania. His son, Bruce, Jr, did testify against him in real life, just like the movie.
@ loupremo lol! "I GOTTA have more cow bell." Funny shit :)

This movie was pretty boring, in my opinion. I watched it, because I heard samples of it in "Honor Thy Father" by Dream Theater.
