  • I like that even pavarotti isn't perfect at singing. He messed up the "tanto rigor" but it still sounds excellent :)

  • @rbrettbarnes how was that a mess up?

  • Why would anyone dislike this? It's like Listening to heaven on Earth.

  • wow .... what a pair of lungs....fantastic

  • Il piu' grande tenore di tutti i tempi, senza se e senza ma

  • Excelente!!! Bravo!

    ...Muito Obrigado pelo video!!!

  • MY INSPIRATION....TRULY A GOD GIVEN TALENT

  • Is there recordings you can purchase of this? Or was there a specific name for this recording so I can find one.

  • A REAL Artist

  • I'm singing Caro Mio Ben for Districts. I hope they don't expect it to be anything like this. Pure flawlessness.

  • The accompanist is the most unhelpful here. Rushing Rushing ....

  • HIS VOICE MAKES ME WANTTO FALL ON MY KNEES AND BLESS HIS NAME

  • operaluvr , to have met and sung for the maestro, is a wonderful thing. You were blessed to do so. I never had a chance to see him live, but he is enthralling on film and tape as a person can be. If god ever listens to misic, i know who sings for him.

  • It's been three years, and I still have a hard time thinking of him as no longer with us. Maybe it's the timeless quality of his singing, but I watch this and feel like he's still alive.

  • @phantom8472 I still cry.

  • @phantom8472 I am with you on that. I listen to him every day. I guess I am a bit of an addict. Never has there been a voice like that. The first time I ever listened to him, I thought I was having a heart attack, the pressure in my chest was so great. I realized it was what he made me feel, and now I like that feeling, and I get it every time I listen. I think he is the single exception to the notion that BIG men, heavy mean are not sexy. His voice, and his persona made him very sexy!

  • I was lucky enough to not only hear il Maestro many times in person, I got to sing for him as well. He was extremely kind and genuine. My husband's and my first date was to hear him perform in 1991 "Ballo in Maschera" and tears were streaming down my face towards the end. "Why are you crying?" I answered, "Because I know that one day, this incredible voice, touched by angels, will be no longer with us and it makes me very sad." Thankfully, the world got to enjoy many more years

  • @operaluvr I agree. Pavarotti is already a legend. You might also want to listen to countertenor Nicholas Spanos's version of Caro mio ben for comparison. It's just great too. Very beautiful. Absolutely otherwordly.

  • @operaluvr wow. That is an amazing story.

  • Single word... "EPIC"

  • Bravissimo, belissimo e' perfetto!

  • He was blessed. I am 16 and am singing this song. I thought that I was doing fine untill I heard this. Uh.....WOW

  • @lancer2589 just so blessed...

  • @lancer2589 good for you singing opera at 16 years old. you any good ? upload a video to youtube and send me a link would love to hear your voice

    Billy

  • @onroute93

Well there is not much of an operatic tone in my voice and I am not trying to get it there. I sing with a little bit of vibrato but it is not anything like this. I might put a video up but not anytime soon. I will let you know if I do. Thanks.

    -JACOB

  • ya well im 15 and its getting there for me

hes amazing and im thankful i heard this song

  • I keep coming back to this effortless beautiful voice coming from a large man

  • So moving. At every stage of is life his voice added something more, and something different. I think part of his mastery lay in being able to draw on that growing richness throughout.

  • unicoooooooooo

  • I love this man, I wish I had really listened to him while he was still alive. This is the one thing that sucks about being young, you can't go see these people perform anymore. Such great talent. Kids should learn about him.

  • Que Dieu vous benisse !

  • Так красиво и душевно...

  • He was in lovely voice that day & the voice had not yet lost its color....a treasure.

  • not yet lost? geez, he was just warming up here. much greatness to come...don't cut him off too soon!

  • questa gli si addice,mi piace molto qui lucianone

  • Do you know where can i get this sheet music in this Key?... F major.

  • I have it in finale format... still need it?

  • Oh yeah, thanks... I'll send you a message right away....

  • But, you have to accept me as a youtube friend, because i can't send you anything..

  • never got your message...just in case...

  • @aguacun Hey, do you think I could get The Finale formatted version off you? that would be most helpful.

  • sure...tell me where to send the file

  • stunning voice

  • Today, during my lesson at the music scool, I sung "Caro mio ben".... I like this piece...

  • Beautifully sung! A striking performance.

  • Thanks to marcelissino for this posting... and to Paulo for sending my way. Grazie. Doug --

  • Grande Pavarott in questa bella Romanza.

    Grazie Paulo.

  • Every time I listen to him, I thank God for the Maestros exquisite talent - and my ability to appreciate it.

  • forse mai più sentiremo una versione tanto perfetta e personale di "Caro mio ben" ..... Assolutamente il migliore grande Luciano

    RIP

  • soooo deep....sooooo perfect.......

  • Thank you very much for posting this video! :)

  • Che faro or "What is life to me without you", Glucks choice

of a castrato I find hard to take.

Listen to contralto Kathleen ferrier, also in Brahms and Mahler

this exceptional voice is utterly unique..you must listen!!!

  • I would like to know why you find it hard to take to use a castrato to sing this aria. I find it even more sad, because it sounds so beautiful sung by such a person+they too have feelings of love and loss.

  • What is Che farro senza euridice about?

  • It is very old opera aria.

  • Che farò senza Euridice.....

What i will do without Euridice.....

  • It's from "Orfeo e Erudice" or Orpheus and

    Euridice from mythology ...Euridice is

killed by a snake at her wedding to

Orpheus and is taken to the underworld. "Que faro senza Euridice" What will I do without Euridice?

"Dov'e andro senza il mio ben" Where will I go without my beloved?

  • That was amazing!!!

  • A true Classic, his voice, his tone, it is perfect.

  • Where did you get this video? I would like to buy it.

  • This was recorded about the only time I heard Pav in person, also in recital. The voice then was shiningly beautiful, and he used it with complete assurance--

  • at 6.25 mins Pavarotti is supporting the note and has such a build up of Point, that the Blood is flowing freely to the head cavity. the resonant frequency of the Music Sound that he is singing is in a CRESCENDO. No he has not run out of breathe LOL

  • Bravo Maestro Luciano!!!

For me his death means the end of belcanto era. He was the best liric tenor of all times.

  • @dilvishselar I think the best lyric tenor was Fritz Wunderlich! Pavarotti was great but Fritz Wunderlich was a wonder!

  • @Stingerfyle Fritz Wunderlich is great singer, but i like Luciano more. Ewen wrote o book about him. It is in russian...

  • @dilvishselar

What a great loss! But at least he lived a longer life than my favorite lyric tenor, Fritz Wunderlich.

  • @dilvishselar Pavarotti thought that Juan Diego Florez is the next big tenor. Indeed, nowadays he is the biggest Bel Canto Tenor.

  • @MrNicholasCatianis Pavarotti cood sing all kind of opera roles. From Arturo (Puritani) to Canio (Pagliaccio). Juan Diego Flores cant do this. His voice is great but he will not fith roles that need big sound and dramatic sound.

  • @dilvishselar your so stupid..even tought pavarotti is dead many singer can sing bel canto..so dont be stupid and and try to research other tenors..for example juan diego flores sing bel canto and rolando villazon... try not to be stupid ok??

  • @belcantosinger10

Who are that you are truing to insult me?

A little boy? Ore a stupid Trolle?

  • always reaching perfection .....

  • ooohhh.. that was nice... :(

    I miss thee.

  • ah,, i miss him and his voice!!!

    Monster!!!!!!!

  • lol at 6:25 maestros' face start to become RED! watch that! is he breathless?

  • Despite what most people think, operatic singing takes a LOT of energy. Lots of tenors get red faced in tough passages.

  • Emozionante: grazie maestro!

  • Well sung, and accoustics great. Balance of Piano and voice also good..This lovely song was written as a tribute to Beniamino Gigli..

  • The only thing i didn't like about this performance was that they were already playing the song faster than im used to and pavarotti was pushing still.

  • el mejor tenor que vi

  • amazing job.

one of my favorite italian areas :)

  • you mean aria :D

  • I saw him live a number of times, including his peak years in the early '70s. At the time I was just an 19th-20th century opera fan, and remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed these old songs. Pavarotti did not have a huge voice, and I actually think he was better at this more intimate repertoire. He conveyed the feeling brilliantly.

Mezzos probably get ticked hearing a tenor sing Che Faro, since it was actually written for the mezzo voice.

  • you are wrong. the role was first written for a male alto (castrato), then in the paris version for a tenor. only later it was usually sung by a woman. it makes sense that a man sings the role of orpheus!

  • I didn't know that. However, breeches roles are not unusual in opera, or, for that matter, on the stage. In Shakespeare's time, all the female roles were played by boys, since it was illegal for women to act.

  • Grandísimo Luciano, !qué emoción enorme oirte!

  • brilliant caro mio ben is one of my favourite songs to perform (:

  • No voice like his. Amazing.

  • wa ta xi chinese this is great

  • Simply amazing!

  • I'm sorry I was not specific. I'm refering to the tenor key of "Che faro senza Euridice" - the second aria he is singing in this clip. Where can I locate it in the key he is singing it in??

  • Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias. It is published for every voice type, I'm singing it as a baritone.

  • Does anyone know where to get the sheet music to this in the published tenor key?

  • 24 italian songs and arias in high voice

  • Rien à voir avec la star.

Pavarotti au sommet de son art dans toute sa splendeur. précieux document.

    RIP LUCIANO.

  • Enfin quelqu'un qui s'exprime dans une langue civilisée!.....

  • Great!

we have the same DVD Player xD

  • Bravo Pavarotti, simply fantastic!

  • What a Bro

  • His "Caro Mio Bene" is most lovely.. Very emotional...

  • Bravo

  • i love this song! im learning it in my choir class!

  • bravo maestro

  • fenomenal !!!!

  • che bella

  • Bel Canto vom Feinsten, ein Genuss für die Seele.

  • i love very much the song che faro senza euridice, from the first time i heard it, because along with such beautiful song, luciano sung it so beautifully, so touching, and very emotional. just beautiful.

  • very moving.

  • Many thanks for putting this on You Tube

  • hard song.. bravo!

  • I am 73 years old but this brings tears to my eyes!

    Absolutely brilliant and moving.

  • Pavarotti at his best is really really good indeed. I wish the audio quality were a little better.

  • truly amazing

  • Very beatiful and very moving. Thank you.

  • BRAVO!!!!!

  • Is this recital available on DVD? Title please!

  • Bellisimo y unico timbre, no existio otro antes ni hoy...hay hermosas voces, pero el color de su voz no ha sido igualado. Descansa en paz Maestro!!!

  • wow...im speechless...amazing

  • excellent.nothing compares to this.i wish i was a tenor like that but i had to be a basso profundo(very low bass)at the age of 14.

  • Wow, basso profundo. There is nothing wrong with that at all. If you use your voice right, you can be equally or more beautiful than any tenor. One of my mom's friends who's a bass-baritone won the singing prize in our city over all of the tenors and baritones. Just keep working hard, and one day we will all be watching you sing on stage, too. :)

P.S. Basso profundo is also be a fun voice to own especially at 14, see Don LaFontaine's biography on Youtube.

  • It is not just the voice. Pavarotti sang with love, with real feeling. Pavarotti sang with his whole being - soul, and body.

    Te amo, Pavarotti.

  • As a vocal coach I hope you're not using Carreras, Domingo, or Villazon as role models for your students! That is all I will say.

  • Ripose` in Pacem! Maestro! Thank you for your beautiful God-Given talent and exhuberant joy and energy with which you shared it with the rest of us. Gratti!

  • My soon-to-be 11-year-old vocal student really loves the first song. He's from Indonesia and has a really wonderful counter-tenor voice (of course; he's only 11, he won't become a tenor or lower till he's around 14 or so!)

As for the second song, I always thought it was written for a counter-tenor or a contralto, how come here it's sung by a tenor?

  • On one hand... absolutely breathtaking. On the other... *sigh* I have so much work to do.

  • There is a reason why almost every clasically trained singer has a soft spot for this aria...it is generally the first piece you are put on by your voice coach...I love this piece...and I can see, so did he

  • I agree with you partly. I'm a voice coach myself, I am also a tenor, I ought to know. It's really a beautiful piece; "Che faro' senz'Euridice, dove andro' senza il mio ben..." However that isn't really the first piece I usually put on to my students; usually I'd start with "La donna e' mobile", "La fleur que tu m'avais jetee", "The music of the night" or "Nessun dorma".

However I believe that the piece was actually written by Gluck for a countertenor or a contralto originally, and not a tenor?

  • Wow...you start your kids of big...I like the Caro cos it's nothing more than a downwards scale most of the time. I usually dont let my kids touch the big stuff for at least a year or two...depending on their progression. lol...all my students are my kids...even if they older than me.

Not sure who it was written for, but there are many pieces like that. Eg. O del mio dolche ardor was originally written for castrati...lol

  • Well for one thing, I was only 5 when I first saw the Three Tenors in concert in Rome 1990 (on TV, of course)... in fact, one of them, Jose Carreras, sang his first recital as a counter-tenor when he was 7, and did his first role at age 11. So I wouldn't really put any age limit there, though I didn't begin my training till I was 20...

Your students are all kids? And older than you? I'm afraid I don't really understand...

  • lol...I call them kids...lol. I am not talking about age...talking about training...u cant expect a person who can barely hit a c above middle c to sing anythin big...why I start them off on the caro. It's for beginners. I usually just take beginners.

  • Oh... so "kids" in this context means "beginners"! Alamak, you ah... never mind, I do have a student who's a little... tone deaf, and we haven't even started learning proper classical arias yet, though I have taught him how to sing the simple three-note refrain "Daylight come and we wanna go home" from a Harry Belafonte song (that was the most he can go in tune then). I know, a lot of technique is needed to produce a good tone...

  • lol...perfect pitch comes from perfect technique...lol...or that's what I preach to my kids :P. Ha ha...I tend to use arias and songs shamelessly as technique exercises. :)

lol...old Gluck would turn in his grave if he heard some of the things some of my students managed to do with his work in their quest towards technique :P

  • Interesting... I myself had to go through a lot to reach my current tessitura... I actually began as a baritone, and sang such arias as "La ci darem la mano"... until one day when one teacher heard it, he told me that I was a tenor, and asked if I knew any tenor arias. I sight-read "The music of the night", and then went on to learn more tenor arias like "Una furtiva lagrima" from this same teacher. Since then I have always been singing as a tenor. And how about you? You're a tenor too?

  • Alas...no. I am a lyrical baritone.

My reasoning behind using songs and arias are that that is what they want to sing...arias and such. So use that to teach them technique...helps to keep them interested.

Also, I have found a person can be perfect on an exercise, but the moment u put them on a piece they forget everything...so I kinda do both...exercises and then pieces.

  • wow

  • Rest in Peace Luciano Pavarotti. That voice will be missed. Even though we have recordings, it doesn't compare to live hearings.

  • That's a voice lesson right there...Bravo!

  • Questo è il vero Pavarotti, l'unico neo è quando dice "Eurridice"

  • pavarotti was incredible i feel in this video he doesnet get into the song until after the first minute you dont SEE any feeling. this song is incredibly easy for him so that is probably why. In any case it is BEAUTIFUL

  • god bless pavarotti

  • Como não adimirar e se encantar com tal belesa de vos.

  • Rest in peice!

  • peace

  • hihi! sorry. My english is not as well as Roberto Benini's!

  • loved him!!!!

  • Wow... his voice is beautiful. I stopped breathing from the first note!

  • Simply incredible. The power and control his voice is amazing. He will be missed. The world has lost a treasure. His voice and music will live on forever.

  • My dear beloved, believe me at least, without you my heart languishes. Your faithful always sighs, cease, cruel, such a rigor. My dear beloved, believe me at least, without you my heart languishes.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! No words!

  • amazing

  • The way he sings this song gave me chills. It was very good. beautiful

  • Bravo Pavarotti!!! Also skillful work from the pianist John Wustman. Hello John if you're out there!!

  • The best performance of this beautiful piece. Thank you so much for posting .

  • Bellísimo.

  • Hail from New Jersey.

  • It wasn't until tonight that I found the translation of the lyrics. "My dear beloved, believe me at least, without you my heart languishes. My faithful one, always sighs; cease, cruel one, so much punishment! My dear beloved, believe me at least, without you my heart languishes. Thanks Luciano, everytime I hear you I think of the wonderful two months I spent in Puerto Rico.

  • Thanks for the lyrics and thanks to marcelissimo for posting.

    This is wonderful!

  • Caro mio ben is one of the songs on the Pavarotti Forever CD and I have to hear it every day. I don't know what it means, but it's so beautiful it sounds sacred to me. And yes, magnificent is the perfect description of him. He is the MAESTRO forever!

  • He's magnificent! thanks for posting

  • damn!! he's good!!!

  • i love this guy i want to sing like this !
