I prefer the US version by far now (I'm english), Michael Scott was a much 'nicer' boss and demanded more sympathy from the audience then Brent ever did. It is much better as a classic comedy (Threat Level: Midnight etc etc), more witty and found it's form in the second series onwards. The UK version was, in it's time and place, exceptional and genius too, but I agree, more an authentic mockumentary and thus a different beast.

I'm an American and I think the British version is far superior. I actually watch the American version and think its a very good American sitcom. The UK version was much more than a sitcom. It is truly a mockumentary. I wouldn't even call it a TV show. It was certainly unlike anything I'd ever seen or seen since. Absolutely genius. It actually took me a long time to finally give in and start watching the American version. When I did, I liked it. But its nothing special.

Have you seen 'This Is Spinal Tap'? The 'mockumentary' style is nothing new. There are also influences from many other comedies, for example Gervais has said that Tim's looks into the camera are straight from Laurel and Hardy and cutting the camera back to see a charters reaction to someone else's reaction is from The Simpsons

I don't see what the fact that they were American has anything to do with it. Obviously they just weren't all that clever. I'm American, and the first time I saw this episode I cried laughing. Obviously this video is a piss-take. The fact that they didn't get the joke has absolutely nothing to do with where they come from...surely there are some humor-lacking people from the UK who could miss the joke as well.

True Smallfry but it IS funny when USA Stars are interviewed on British TV when they come over.Some of them are sooo up their own backsides they often do not realise the British Dry (deadpan) sense of humour and don't realise that (some) interviewers are taking the piss out of them! They answer the questions literally and do not often realise the "fawning" praise given is,sometimes,a pisstake.
