  • How about not using a sweetener?

  • Stivia can give me a headache. I just juice without the sweetener and just add an apple or carrot for the sweetness.

  • I have learned that there is no short cut to weight loss, the only way is to eat home cooked balanced meal and exercise. Drinking too much greens will also cause loose stomach issues. There are times when you need stress to solve issues or solve problems and that is what caffeine is for. This woman is beautiful, but she does not understand that if all the construction workers went on this weight loss diet, she would not have had this nice home built for her.

  • I am trying to loose weight with the vitamix like you stated and actually gaining weight. I replace 2 meals a day with green smoothies and eat a regular meal with very little meat. I find I like the vitamix meals and they are very filling. I must be doing something wrong or too much volume. Do you just drink smoothies only or what. Wish I could see a weeks worth of meals to get an idea.

  • Losing weight, does not mean LOSE WEIGHT. With green smoothies, you will lose water/muscle/fat. In that order. You don't want to lose a lot of muscle. This is what you call a Yo-yo diet. You can't maintain the weight lost doing this. Also, you'll look gross. You 'll get what is called "skinny fat" . You need a complete ratio of fat/fiber/protein to lose the weight properly. For example fish and brocoli. With a lot of water. You'd have to eat a whole chicken a day if you listen to this.

  • @NickolasHinderer , The goal is to lose FAT not WEIGHT. Some people might not care but, you gain the weight back if you don't do it properly. You lose muscle/bone, and water. You want to keep/gain muscle, to keep your body burning fat. This is just a short period fast. You'd be better off easting the fruits and vegetables, so your body has to at least work to burn and digested the food. But you still need a Omega 3, (fish) and protein.

  • I love to eat vegetables and fruits

  • I put, carrots, kale, red chard, half cucumber, some parsley, collards, radicchio,celery and 3 organic apples, and flaxseed. it makes about 640z, but is that to much to eat and should I eat more? I also have alittle bit of chicken for protein.

  • I agree, greens are the hardest to eat, I can eat fruit all day but the greens are tough to get.

  • I tried them twice after hearing about how "marvellous" and "wonderful" they were, only to end up at the doctor's office because my liver went into a spasm. Took a week for it to calm down. So if you have a compromised digestive system, like I do, be careful. I wouldn't touch them now after my experience with them. I'll stick with my kefir fruit smoothie instead.

  • You should mention the benefits of alkalizing your body vs eating goods that are acidic to your body like coffee, meat, dairy etc.

  • @capeverde211 "they" are correct. The enzyme life of plant based foods degrades quickly and does not store. I make my smoothies and do my juicing in the morning, store it in the fridge and enjoy it throughout the day.

  • @MrDIYMaster I eat nothing but local and organic food. I know what I'm putting into my body. I just hate these rather restrictive and extremist diets- I sure as hell could never stick to it.

  • You need other foods in your diet in order to be completely healthy. Just stuffing yourself with vegetables and fruits isn't good- you need proteins. Not to mention this diet would be boring as fuck.

  • dilutes the natural flavors of what you choose to put into your smoothie. Use coconut water - it adds flavor and it is very good for the body. Coconuts and coconut water is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal; it helps your immune system to stay healthy and it is a good source of fat that the body NEEDS!

    If you still need a bit of sweetness, add a ripe fresh date. Dates are very sweet (start with half a date first; make sure to take out the pit - seed). Dates are also high in viber!

  • Not all stevia is created equal. True stevia is green. They are the sweet leaves of the plant that have been dried and ground into a powder - it is not a white powder or a liquid. Truth be told, there are a lot of people that don't like the taste of stevia; some have said that it seems that they have an "after taste" in their mouths.

    If you need to sweeten your smoothie, first of all use juicy fresh melons such as honey dew, cantalope or even watermelon. Using water in your smoothies only

  • Greens yes-Stevia no. I would caution viewers of possible side effects. My wife took your advice and of course put it on our counter. It took me three weeks before connecting the stevia to my bloating/gas,headaches,neckpai­n and drowsiness. Yesim healthy,i think it would be more responsible if you throw in a caution concerning stevia in the videos.

  • I've been drinking 24-40 oz of green smoothie every day for about a month and half, and my cholesterol has dropped from 215 to 163, and even though I wasn't overweight to begin with, I've dropped 5 lbs. This was just from substituting a green smoothie for breakfast, without significantly changing the rest of my diet--although I'm slowly making changes.

  • @MsSweetPuppy I just bought a Vitamix 5200 today (11/03/2011) at Costcp. The reps were there doing a day long demo(s). Before that I used a cheap $30 Osterizer blender. It just put the harder foods first, one at a time with the softest foods put in last. use about a pint and a half of water and I start the blender first then and the foods so as not to bog the cheap blender down.

  • @thickpooxbox360 All you need to do to lose weight is cut out as much sugar as possible. Drink water, no sugary drinks, eat very little fruits and breads/pasta, and get moderate exercise.

  • Yes, weight loss comes with good healthy smoothies. Beautiful skin, hair and nails and overall health. They should teach this in schools to kids. Have you seen these kids today??...Overweight before the age of 14. Our country is killing us with the food being sold.

  • My friend says that slim fast smoothies are far better and they are already made for you , sealed in a can and taste like a chocolate shake What do you think? She also told me Ofrah Winfriey lost 180 pounds about 10 years ago when she was on slim fast.

  • @91Gamalex - If you'd ever find smoothies on the "shelf" chances are good it will be corporate processed crap filled with high fructose corn syrup, carbs and preservatives just like what's on the shelves today.

    A good indicator for garbage foods is if it comes in a can, a box or served in a paper bag by some minimum wage worker ;)

  • @blissfullyeverafter You don't need additional protein at every meal. Greens have protein and fruit actually does too.

  • Robyn, I have slowly tried to incorporate green smoothies into my lifestyle. While I have felt better overall having a slight increase in energy there is only one problem.. I can't physically stomach green smoothies. A sensitive stomach, and a heightened gag reflex are barring me from being healthier then what I normally am. Suggestions?

  • I really to start this but the blender is SO expensive. I never seem to have the extra $300-$400 to purchase it. Do you have recommendations for a blender that would work just as nice as the ones on your site?

  • @brighteyz I bought a $25 blender and in order to blend the ingredients, I add some liquid to the mix. One day I added some soy beverage, and one day I added chickpeas and some of the juice. It may not be perfect, but as Robyn says, On a good, better, best scenario, it's a good. Also watch your 2ndhand stores. I got a Jacklalanne powerjuicer for $15 (needed some parts, but still cheaper than new).

  • @brighteyz check your thrift stores, I never had that money laying around either......but my mom happened in one and found not only a Blendtec but it came with an extra carafte....which go for 99.00 each to purchase seperately. I got the Blendtec with 2 caraftes for 100.00. It was a great deal and I have used it daily since then. Love it! My son swears though, that the gates of he** open when I make my morning smooties and he is trying to sleep. lol

  • I switched to a plant based diet in August 2010. My cholesteral dropped from 240 to 175 in 10 days. My BP dropped from 140/100 to 130/80 in that same time period. I also stopped taking my BP meds. Since then, I've lost 30 lbs.

    Plant-based is the only way to go!!!

  • I love green smoothies don't do allot of them in the winter because fruit tends to make you colder. I bought a Ninja blender a while back that was cheap and works fantastic making smoothies. Do still eat over a pound of greens a day though.
