  • First album ever recorded in quadraphonic sound I believe.

  • i want this played at my funeral.

  • Another classic, and what a voice. Thanks Pink Floyd.

  • this is why i love Pink Floyd. at first i get a curious/mysterious feeling, then later into the song i just want to explode and i have so much energy, then when the song calms down again, i just feel like closing my eyes. just something we dont have nowadays. im only 15, but i wish i grew up in the 60s/70s when this music was new.

  • @harjinder14 No1 cares about your age, you're clearly just begging for attention (newfag troll alert)

  • owesome moments !

  • owesome moments !

  • Also she did not nail it in one go, her takes were edited together to create the final piece.

  • Alan Parsons heard some of Clare Torry's previous work as a session musician and he invited her to come and sing for this track. Torry was told what their concept for the album was but Pink Floyd had no lyrics for this song, so she just improvised, this is what she came up with & they loved it!!

  • The extended version of the female orgasm

  • take a nap listening to pink floyd and wake up to this song...priceless :)

  • I heard that Pink Floyd had put up an advert asking people to come forward and express, in what ever way they wanted to, how they felt about death. And this is what this woman came up with. There's an amazing mind... You wouldn't see Rhianna or Beyonce singing like that...

  • pink floyd was so trippin on acid while making this song guarantee it

  • pink floyd was so trippin on acid while making this song guaruntee it

  • its one that always gets me, and it was 3!

  • one of the most beautiful moments in music...

  • I never owned this album but I've had Time and this for a long time. I just now realized Time's ending merges right into this -_-

  • Bianca Antoinette. Awesome. No one else's version gives me chills like hers!

  • zeppmann93, thank you.

  • This is the PERFECT song to have sex to :D

  • "i'm not scared of dying, i just don't want to" -- Robbie Williams

  • One of the best floyd tracks ever

  • Descartes was a fan of pink floyd.

  • My son did,not live a full life although I wish he did ,but hey, that's life as some of you posters would say,but I would acknowledge the verve song, tragically heartbreaking the drugs definitely do not work.

  • AlecG1213 - also mine...

  • One of the song of one of the perfect album ever made.

  • @alexxxxxx are you for real?

  • Who knew a woman screaming could sound so good, for once? LOL :-P. But, besides the dry joke, this was and is, til this day, a legendary musical peice. And I like it. Alot.

  • @AlecG1213 i AGREEEEEEEE BUT I SAY ...KISSS MY BIG WHITE ASS IN MACY'S WINDOW!!!!!!

  • That's simply GREAT ! Amazing expression of deep emotions ! Unbelievable music !

  • if your askin the ? why should i your not fullfilling your own great potential

  • I always adored this woman singing this number - stunned i was to find she was two girls. Felt so cheated. I cannot tell you. Still want it at my funeral for different reasons though. Just after ride of the Valkyries by Richie Wagner, then 'm home.

  • @harleybunt 2 girls? Not according to the Classic Albums DVD interviews. 1 girl 1 take. Band was blown away.

  • @harleybunt Don't feel cheated. It's one girl. Clare Torrey.

Some say it was one take, some say up to 5. General consensus is that it was 3 takes, and parts of each were used for the final album version.

  • @WitchedAndWarlocks i watched the documentary she wasnt supposed to be the one singing the gal they were going to use had been gone. so they called this girl into the booth as a practice take and she nailed it first try she actually appologized when she walked out of the booth because of the emotions.

  • @HigherThanYou509 Hey Higher,

Personally, I could never believe that something as wonderful as this could be done cold on the first try.

I find the interview linked below to be a pretty credible and accurate account on what happened during recording. Clare states that she did it in 2 and a half takes. Pretty damn impressive!

  • She proves, along with other female singers (Gimme Shelter, The battle of Evermore), that rock'n roll is a woman's business.

  • @Dzaiko Yeah, she was some random chick of the street at first they had come in and pay 50 bucks or something small like that to just improvise a vocal track. She sued them for writers credit and the royalties due or something. At least according to the old man at work, this came out like 9 years before I was born or something....

  • one of the greatest vocal prformances i've ever heard... whos the vocalist?

  • @stoonky8 The solo female singers name is Clare Torry.

  • @stoonky8 I believe that would be the female version of Chuck Norris.

  • i love the way the she sings in that it sounds like she is in deep grieving crying her eyeballs out over something very tragic, it's very beautiful and amazing

  • I would love that they had footage of this studio session - and by the same time, I like to only be able to imagine it

  • @AlecG1213 Reminds me of The Big Band Theory, I laughed my ass off, at least the dark side xD

  • クレア・トリーの大入魂スキャット、ピンクフロイド"狂気"より、ライト作"虚空のスキャット"~言葉なし!

  • dsom is the greatest album of all time. i dont give a fuck what anyone says. this is the greatest shit that mankind has ever heard. floyd on live on forever and ever into eternity. meddle is a close second. sgt peppers is pretty cool as well

  • @AlecG1213

They don´t have to, you just did it yourself....

  • I´ve heard this live. It took my breath away, even though they had three singers to pull it trough...

  • assolutamente stupenda!!!!

  • @michaelilb2014 you got all that out of a monkey screaming?

  • @VoltismProductions Why do you use the word "monkey" in this case? Go f**k yourself u racist asshole. If you dislike the music, get off the video, and go back to your Lady GaGa and Rihanna.

  • @ParanoidAndroid98 Isn't Clare Torry white? In any case, it doesn't matter.. her singing and this song transcend such distinctions.

  • @ParanoidAndroid98 1. stop raging 2. stop assuming things 3. im not racist 4. learn to take a joke 5. go kill yourself you mother fucking cocksucking good for nothing waste of life you are nothing but a failed abortion please hang yourself you stupid cunt. good day faggot. nigger.

  • What happened to music? Why is it music still can't be like this, instead of all the rap bullshit.

  • I understand this was Clare's first shot at the vocal...........good Lord.....

  • Anyone hear : "If you can hear this whispering you are dying..." at 3:33 ??

    Oh God! I'm dying!!

  • @MrVirovix we all are. dying.

  • @MrVirovix She says "I was never afraid of dying..."

  • @MrVirovix no, it's "I never said I was frightened of dying."

    – Patricia 'Puddie' Watts, wife of road manager Peter Watts. :)

  • @MrVirovix

    we are all dying

  • @MrVirovix Everyone's dying, don't think you're special...

  • Richard Wright plays this every night for God and the angels. R.I.P Richard William Wright, 1943-2008, you are greatly missed

  • It's the Major7 chords in this song that really gives it that melancholy and emotional quality. It evokes both feelings of beauty and sadness.

  • absolutly amazing so inspiring.

  • i think this album wakes people up, i was 11 when i first listened to the alum all of the way through, and i began to question my surroundings, such as what does "it" all mean, now i am 16 and i still wonder.

  • 112 Hipsters watched this video and thought it 'was too mainstream'.

  • My dad told me when they came to our city she went to the mountains and sang this out, I can imagine how beautiful this sounded... and my dad is one lucky bastard to be able to see Pink Floyd.

  • This song has an undescribable effect on me

  • I really cannot describe how my spirit deals with pink floyd.

  • I purchased this album in the late 1970's when I was thirteen years old, and it was rather hard to fathom the concept of life and death at that tender age. This song in particular was very unsettling to listen to.

  • Comment removed

  • Pink Floyd keyboard player Rick Wright wrote this song, which is about life, gradually descending into death. Hence the angrier and more intense first half with a dying person refusing to "go gently into that good night." The second half is gentler, as the dying person gives into the inevitable and fades away.

  • Great song, but it would have been so much better if Justin Bieber did the vocal part....

  • @tinian33 Please tell me that was a bad joke.. Unless of course Bieber was getting mauled by a dog :D

  • I always think of the bloody Nurofen advert when I hear t his.... how can painkillers kill a superb track?

  • Rick, you were the man.

  • no offense to who ever sang this (which she did awesome by the way :D) but can you imagine if mariah carey would of sang this....

  • I always picture the same scene when I hear this song: A mother comes home after her son's funeral, starring blankly at the distance. After a while, she goes alone into her late son's room and it finally hits her.

  • this song is soo wise, "aahh oohhhh ahhh" is enough to describe how pink floyd are amazying and better than a song full of stupid things like "baby baby ohh"

  • This song is amazing. I've loved it since I was like 10, and I still do. This makes the music of today look like a pile of crap. Today's music is just people talking, who can't really sing. Music has lost it's meaning. Music is.. dead.

  • tears are coming outta me non knowing why

  • its crazy what music can do to your brain

  • To me this song represents the ascending journey from one life to the next. If the so called rapture happens, this is what we all will be hearing!

  • To me this song is about the death and saying good bye to the egoic way of life. It happens when you take the red pill (The Matrix) and decide to "wake up". Also the vocalist, Clair was paid about $60 for this performance and was uncredited. She filed against BMI.

  • If you heard her sing this part, you're dying.

  • My fav one Pink Floyd's song.

  • my girlfriend sounds like this when she cums

  • @sammyboy123321 get her some water because if its that long she must be REALLY dehydrated

  • 112 people without ears

  • I'm not afraid of dying, only of dying before i have a chance to live my life to the full.

  • @crusader269 every day is a chance to live your life to the full, try not to waste it.

  • @crusader269 It encapsulates what everyone thinks, well I know that I do.

  • This song is unspeakably amazing.

  • cant believe Australia's got talent laughed at the old lady trying to do this.

It's an very emotional piece and hard to hit, but she did her best.

  • oMG I WANT THIS SONG FOR MY DIED

  • @LucyeCorne what?

  • @tashpish Sorry,

I said : I want this song for my funeral...

  • 2 073 462 !

  • The band belongs to Britain, their songs belong to the world... Talent like this does very rarely surface anymore.

  • The band belongs to Britain, their songs belong to the world... Talent like this does very rarely surface anymore.

  • Man....—∆=

  • And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do,

I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime. I never said I was frightened of dying.<3

  • @sellycat8 At 13 (many years ago) this was the statement that ended my fear of death.

  • @nategerard funny how i'm only 13 now, my dad played this to me whilst growing up and i'm not afraid of dying.

  • 112 people are blind and cant see it

  • @RaboStoKabo SHUT. UP.

  • @tashpish sorry i cant shut up, i'm just saying the truth and besides this its my right to express my opinion so gtfo!

  • can anyone ear the part where it says "if you hear this whisper you are dieing" or is that just me :P

  • Wow. This is real music, played by real musicians. The modern equivalent of the classical music masterpieces.

  • there's a dislike button for this song?

  • @murda805 its eargasm

  • Jizztastic. She carries so much emotions in her yelling. Almost as if her soul is crying.

  • I was 13 years old when this song came out. I was blessed to become a paid musician for most of my life. "Great Gig in the Sky" is the song my family is instructed to play at my funeral. My interpretation is this: A woman wakes to find that she is no longer amoung the living. Her spirit responds with shock, horror about things she did not do that she should have done. The pain she experienced in life, the people she will miss, loves she lost.

  • @michaelilb2014 Think she had an orgasm

  • @michaelilb2014 I know what you're saying, but that's going to be really tough on the people you leave behind, especially if the circumstances of your death were to be not what one would choose. It would be terrible to sit through that while grieving the loss of someone you love.

  • @LISC998 yep ;s

  • @michaelilb2014 Be Alive,My Friend.Life Is Beautiful

  • @michaelilb2014

  • Pomyśleć, że to jest improwizacja. Wyobraźcie sobie, że ktoś wam mówi: My teraz zagramy, a ty zaśpiewaj. Cokolwiek. Tak jak czujesz.

    Chyba bym nie umiała.

    Szacun dla wokalistki.

  • @thedragonflyyeah i know, its absolutely mind blowing...clare torry improvised this whole piece in 2 or 3 takes...i think that's what makes it so special, because it's spontaneous and it was not planned. I think that's true music. Sorry I did not reply in polish, i'm polish and I understand the language but I cannot write it. :)

  • greatest song i've ever listened to. my ears just lost their virginity.

  • I don't want to sound like a Justin Bieber annoying hater who always speaks about him in every video... But in this case I must say, the lyrics to this song are far better than anything by Justin Bieber!

  • I salute this song

  • i listened to the whole album once lying on my lawn looking up at the sky, totallly awesome

  • 0:00 - 4:47 = ear orgasm

  • @murda805 eargasm :D

  • @murda805 Hey, YOU have made a good choice, i have also planned to use one PF song, but i have not decided yet, i have a few on my mind. I saw RG in Helsinki a month ago approx, and it was more than a concert. Pink Floyds music will never die.

It nice to see that there are so many people out in the World that loves their music, i was myself quite young when my father and god father introduced me to this music and i am "sold" for the rest of my life.

    All the best

  • @murda805 I think the technical term is eargasm!

  • The amalgamation of music of the 20th century

  • Pink floyd: only band that touch my heart !
