Arabian wood was born out of an unexpected gift from a Sheikh in Kuwait who gave Tom Ford a collection of traditional Arabian essential oils . Tom Ford immediately loved it and he recognised this could be quit iconic for a certain kind of Middle Eastern man . The Sheikh asked him if he could make a modern privet blend fragrance out of it - something that would be a homage to the original oil , yet be really wearable today which became a modern reinvention of a classic Middle Eastern scent .. :)
Coming into this late, but you're dead on when you refer to the lavenders, orris and oud, then adding the frankincense to the mixture. What a great chypre, and I just finished wearing it today. Amazing longevity, and just the right amount of sillage. You'll have to tell us if you did get the bottle.
I don't know, just smelled this for the 1st time from a sample vial I bought and this really comes off as a frag a 40 or 50 year old man would wear. Not quite my style, but glad u like it
@DMaster81 I can totally see how the "old man vibe" comes across, but on my skin, it just ends up smelling clean, woodsy, and mysterious. Not so much masculine. :)
your enthusiasm is refreshing, and your descriptions really brings the fragrance to life. keep it up!! :) Oh, and the tangent about your fear of your dog pooping was hilarious -- I screamed at 6:07 cuz he came out of nowhere!! I thought he was gonna do it haha
@Biomeccuh Eh. we'll see. When I like a fragrance, I don't mind saving up the pennies for it, you know? Lets the company know that they did a good job, haha.
I'm glad you appreciate the samples though. I always think of you when I come in to samples. I love hearing your take on things. I will continue to share with you any time.
Great review Teresa. I found most of the Tom Ford line is a little too much for me. I finally got around to trying my sample of Serge Lutens L'Eau yesterday. A very nice clean and soapy scent. Probably my 2nd favorite soap scent behind Prada Amber.
Hmmmmm, sounds very interesting. I'm usually not a fan of any type of wood in any niche fragrances because it smells so natural but based on your review, this sounds like something I may want to try out.
Oh! I forgot say that if you really like rose scents, you should try Tom Ford's Noir de Noir. Sweet, slightly powdery rose that I feel more modern than Czech & Speake 88, and more ethereal than Black Oudh.
@wemf2 I'll definitely check it out. And I haven't smelled Italian Cypress either. And as for Black Oud--haha, nothing subtle or ethereal about it, eh? So heavy handed. I compared it ot Czech and Speake's Dark Rose the other day and it's just too--aggressive for me.
Interesting review. This is one in the Private Blend collection that I've yet to try. Too bad Neiman Marcus in Denver doesn't carry it. Thank you for the review! Thumbs up!
Awesome review, as always :) I adore Alien- it's one of those fragrances that you put on, and your wrist is permanently stuck to your nose lol. It is so intriguing.
I absolutely loved this review, you made me get my sample and give it a second sniff, but this is more of a feminine fragrance than anything. Great Review!
@JRWRlTER Yeah, you're the second person to say that. I think I've lost touch with what's "masculine" and "feminine" since I try so hard to ignore marketing. But I believe you! :) And thanks for the comment!
@MrRa80 Really? I guess I have sort of lost touch with the "feminine" aspect of fragrances. I mean, unless it smells like sugar and flowers, I can't often tell if it's REALLY feminine, you know? Thanks for the comment!
@dicksonaaron Well, considering most "big bottles" of fragrance are 3.4 oz in size, 3.4 oz calculates out to $180. Not so far from your $150 mark. Most people will never use the 8.5 oz bottle alone. They'll probably split it into decants. For example, if you split the 250mL into 5 fifty mL decants, it should be about $100 a person....or something close to that.

I've tried it and it was my favorite of the woody private blends. I like Oud Wood as well. Have to say that my favorite of all was Noir de Noir.

@suburbanites I haven't yet. I'm saving up my little pennies for it, though. MKK will be my next big purchase, but Arabian wood is in the pipeline.

Arabian wood is leaning more towards the feminine side IMO.
