The PS 2 version isn't so bad, it's a lot like a game of risk but with star trek influences. Their not showing that when a battle starts you have the option to go into a 2d battle screen and play as the ships, firing phasers and torpedo's at each other. It kills the premise of Star Trek, but it's a decent cheap game if you like Risk.

Why would you not show the most impressive part of this game, and only show the (admittedly) tacky bits? Arcade is where it's at, that's really all that redeems this game (and how cheap it is).

This game isn't bad, I really like it. The guy in this video is auto resolving all the battles and isn't actually showing 95% of the game-play content. There are 3d fleet vs fleet battles that you get to fight in, not just 2d stationary ships that pick each other off.

Wii has nothing to do with it, the reason why this game is so bad is because of Bethesda Softworks the company which made the game.

Star Trek need to get back with Microprose and work on a sequel for "Birth Of the Federation" arguably the best strategic Star Trek game EVER!

IT truly is an awesome game, i dont know why they didnt make a sequel. I got the game from armadafleet website, they got some mods for the game too and they got the full game to D/L because as you know its virtually impossible to buy that game now. This game is very short. I rented it and finished all the quests in 2 days. Its all the same.

You have to play the game in the 3d simulation if you want to keep your ships. The alternative is faster, but you will be frustrated.

I found the game fun for the first time through, but there was nothing after that. Only a few things to unlock, and no long term play value.

Yes. At the beginning of each battle you get to choose 3 levels of involvement. Instant just calculates the results based on the ships and gives you the ending. Simulation (shown in the video) lets you chose posture, offensive or defensive (which plays to the particular strength of your admiral). Arcade lets you fight real-time in 2d Space, and you target ships with the IR pointer.

Also I had anticipated that the arcade mode mechanics would be used to execute battles in the main strategy mode--so it would be a hybrid action/turn-based strategy. Build fleets and bases and choose areas like a turn-based strategy game, and then actually fight the fleets you encounter RTS-style. The video makes all the fighting in the main mode look turn-based.

I can't believe they're casting the defiant-class ship as a "scout". It's the most powerful (and really, the only) warship the Federation has. "Over-powered and armed to the teeth", when it was first intro'd they trouble keeping it from tearing itself apart.

Good vid. I noticed something...when you got killed by the Borg and you went to create a new fleet, you get a ship with your admiral. You replaced it with the same one which cost you, but that's not the funny thing. When you purchased your dreadnought your first cruiser you purchased changed to a dreadnought. Did you notice.
