mother of fuck at the beginning i was like wow just another shitty engine startup that takes forever, then it started and sounded like a fuckin beast holy shit i still cant believe i jumped cuz my speakers were loud lol nice motor
i only ask because i hear it all the time from mud trucks at the bogs and always wonder what it is, i have an electronic fuel pump on my blazer and its so quiet, maybe mines just not so high end haha
@go4broke92 no its the door it makes that sound when the key is foreword and the door is open its just letting you know the door is open it does the same thing on my firebird
My power brakes aren't 100%, but they work once the booster gets pulled down. In normal driving it isn't really noticable. If i'm parallel parking or something where the engine is idleing and I'm useing the brakes a lot, they get a little hard to push, but they still stop the truck fine. The amount of lift has no direct affect on vacuume. The specs that do affect vacuume are duration and lobe center angle. I'm going to send you an email becaus i only have 39 characters left to use. make that 3.
Sorry it took me a while to reply, those Henry Js are getting harder and harder to find, last one I seen had a 454 in it...lol. IT was purple actually. Good luck with yours!
Yeah it's pretty loud. Even with mufflers on (allbeit 3inch one chamber race mufflers) it still makes my ears ring if I drive it for any length of time.
I set up the carb during the summer and this was filmed on a 20 degree day. I don't ever drive it in the winter so i'm not to concerned with it's idle quality. Once it warms up it smooths out pretty nicely.
Damn, I have 2 large studio speakers hooked up to my PC and a Subwoofer. My ol' Lady screamed at me and told me to shut my 67 Chevelle off before the neighbors complained...lmao. Sounds like it's not getting enough fuel.....or the idle is real low.
When I bought it I had to tow it home on a rope. It had no engine or tranny. I actually built the engine that is in it. It came out of another truck I had that I bought for $850. It was a 1975 454 with pretty low miles. it as bored .030 and rebuilt with dome pistons. It has a lunati flat-tappet cam, comp 3/8 pushrods, harland sharp rockers and crane cams springs. The intake was used. Briefly adding it up in my head it has cost me a little under 2,500 for everything including carb & headers.
I have one clip of it in action right now. It took place several years ago at a drag strip and it was with a smaller cam, smaller headers, a stock torque converter and street tires and it busted the case of my th400 in half duing the run. It's really a joke. It only runs a 14.4 at like 96 mph so I'm sort of embarraced to post it, but what the heck...
what are you waiting for? You'll need at least 230 degrees of duration at .050 and 110 or less lobe separation. It takes quite a bit of cam to get a 454 to lope. then you'll need to bump up the compression because it will be a turd if you don't. My brother in-law has a 454 with 221/233 and 115 lobe seperation and it still idles like a sewing machine. You could always just pull a few plug wires off.
pulling plug wires off is the best way to make a car sound gnarly, a friend did it to his (free) 80something civic wagon and it sounded like a top fueller
Thanks! but I would say it sounds more like satan, especialy when it hits around 6 grand. The exhaust note alone has made small children cry out of fright on more than one occasion, and I almost cry everytime I look at the ugly thing.
It's mounted to the frame rail without the little insulating pad. It does kida sound like drilling through drywall with an auger bit, but I like it cuz I can tell when the fuel pump dies or when I run out of gas.
10.55:1 - 33cc dome pistons, 115cc chambers, 4.28" bore, 4" stroke, and .039" X 4.37" head gasket. I didn't actually measure the deck height, but i'm guessing around .030".
Yeah, it cranks around 210 psi and it pings with 89. I keep the timing at 32 total and it will live on 91. I often throw a few gallons of 110 in it, mostly for the smell.
It's a '77 GMC 2wd shortbox. With a th400, 2500 stall, and 4.11 posi 12-bolt. The body is shot. There is rust in everthing except the hood and the roof. Come to Lincoln, NE on June 10 for power tour and you can see it in all its unsightly glory!
The thought has crossed my mind, but it's not that kind of camaro, if you know what I mean. I feel 1990 IROC 350's should stay 1990 IROC 350's. As far as the truck, I can't afford fast and pretty, so I opted for fast. If I loose it shifting into 3rd and take out a guard rail who cares, right?

You need a 110 LSA or above to keep the power brakes to be safe.
