another is a mobo that's the size of a mac mini but has a am2 socet and takes desktop ram. yeah I think for a computer a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz with 4gig ddr2 800mhz ram beats a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs ddr2 667mhz ram
yes, but that's quite an expensive setup. You are talking about a webserver or some other type pf server there. By the time you reach around 16 gb ddr2-ddr3 SD ram 800MHz, you're talking a price of about 13k. Not to mention that you need dual quad core xeon processors 3.0 GHz each to fill the two sockets on that mobo.
I was just comparing the upgrade options with other mobos. and yes I do like my computer that totaled with monitor for less than half an I Mac but this is not just for students and gamers. the same things apply to web servers and workstations.
fully buffered ram is more expensive. a 4 gigs kit goes for about $180 now that's expensive but upgrading a mac from 2 to 4 gigs fb 800mhz costs $500.
