Wow Great tutorial.... Thanks a lot... :) And i don't understand why people dislike this video.... ... Because is Great ..simple and seems very easy to make :) Not confusing like some videos i seen before lol
I tried making this for the first time tonight. I used the 4 tbs. tylose powder as mentioned in another comment since it was never mentioned in the video. My gumpaste came out very dry it seems. I didn't add hardly any of the remaining powdered sugar while needing because it was starting to crumble. Did I do something wrong? 4 egg whites, 4 tbs. tylose and 2lbs powdered sugar, correct? Hmmm
Would be very nice if Expert Village would edit this video and post up a copy of the recipe at beginning. I am now having to look through 292 comments in hopes that I find the recipe posted specifically by EV. Uggh.
Thanks for the tylose tip!!! i had tried making mm fondant before and it was too soft and wouldnt hold in place!!!! Can i use this gum paste to roll over my cakes or is it just for decorative items on top of the cake? Thanks
@BassounehI`m a cake decorater and I would stress to you not to use gum paste to cover your cake! Its not the same as fondant and will not only harden but will taste bad too.If your fondant is to soft try kneading in extra powdered sugar and remember not to roll it to thin or it will be fragile and break to often.
@BlueSatin84 Thanks!!!!! i'm hoping that one day i will be able to decorate one of my cakes and be satisfied with the results!!!! i'm a newbie and i'm still learning via trial and error!!!!
@pist43 One cup in America is 0.5 pints in the UK if that helps. Use a pirex jug as it will be more accurate. Good luck next time. P.S where did you get the Tylose, I can't find it anywhere! :)

@pov20094nick gum paste is used for making flowers and other cake decorations that you want to set very hard. Fondant is mainly used for covering cakes. You can use fondant to make flowers, but they dont really set as hard as gum paste and usually dont look as realistic because you cant get the petals and leaves as thin. My basic rule is: cover with fondant, decorate with gum paste =) Hope that helps.

@elizabethrice3 Yeah, I think she should have had someone else write the subtitles. Allowing yourself to make grammar errors only teaches others to do the same.
I had to beat up double the recipe's worth of soft royal icing to fix it (recipe asked initially for 4 egg whites, approx 800-900g icing sugar, I had to beat up in total 8 egg whites and 1600g royal icing.).
1/3 portion at a time (fixing took 3 batches), I broke the gum paste that was too hard into thumbsize bits before dumping them into the royal icing and beating it until it was the soft/slightly fluffy consistency before kneading it later.
Nicholas Lodge gumpaste recipe asks for 12 tsp of CMC. It said the amt you need varies according to humidity etc, but when I added 12 tsp(I suspect it's partly because I got the purest grade of CMC, as well as Australia being really dry), my gumpaste turned unkneadably hard.
Thanks very much for this video! This recipe you use coincides exactly with the 'Nicholas Lodge' flower paste recipe, which I'd gotten from a sugar craft book. It is hard to know how 'soft' the consistency should be from just words alone and your video answered that question. ^_^
