I discovered this beautiful tune through a youtube video of the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis who was Nino Rota's friend. He said Rota was inspired by the songs of his mother and old folk tunes.

:| Mancini covered it. Rota scored it for the stage play and then the movie, Mancini paid homage to Rota (and Morricone) with various cover songs and this is one of them. Leave it as it is.
