I hate to sound like a heretic but I like both of the themes. I think it's easier to put words on top of the new theme which might be why they did it. Also the instrumentation of the 'Arthur' version sounds dated, perhaps they were faced with completely re-recording it and so thats why a choice was made.

Don't know why they didn't use "Arthur, King of the Britons," to be honest. Much, much better and more fitting than the dull jingle they replaced it with.
