FWIW, be careful using ANY of these battery packs for charging off a computer's USB port: for whatever reason, my PowerBook's logic board fried while I was charging the MB1550!
Who knows, it may have been a bad USB cable, etc, but it seems foolish to risk it: use either the external USB power supply to charge the lithium packs, or for the MB1550, charge those batteries in an external charger. Better safe than sorry, I learned....
As far as run times, I dunno: I returned the CTR350 and kept the PHS300, so can't say. I like the idea of having the equivalent of an uninterruptable power supply with the internal battery of the PHS300. That way the unit doesn't drop the connection if there's a temporary power interruption, say from starting the ignition while running off the auto lighter charger adapter.
What cable and adapter tip did you use to connect to the CTR350? And do you how long does the MP1550 last with the CTR350 optimized for power consumption?
I have a CTR350 and was looking into the Tekkeon MP2250 which is designed for the Cradlepoint portable routers. But the MP1550 looks to be a lot more cheaper in price and smaller in size.
The cable is from 3GStore, and is included with their MP1800CP package. They MIGHT sell it separately for $11; I'm not sure if they do... At any rate, it's a USB to N-style power adapter (center-positive). The tip is snapped on.
If you solder, you could snip off one end of a USB cable and find the power terminal at Radio Shack (part 274-1573), etc. Obviously easier to just buy a pre-fab cable, tho.
