Dem Southernfolkz, Nine Leaves, Louis Logic, No Bird Sing, Gil Scott Heron (though that's more spoken word, still), Nujabes, Dj Okawari, Blazo, Emancipator, Nieve, eydea & abilities (they implemented lot's of punk rock elements into hip hop), etc.. etc.. Just stay away from mainstream hip hop and you'll see this often.

I'm in awe. Generally I dislike rap, all the obscenities and dark overtones, the overdone "I'm better than you" attitude that most rappers and their songs seem to hold. But this?

Sure there was a bit of darkness, what with you mentioning a past breakup, but you didn't dwell on it. You didn't sound sorry for yourself, you didn't sound boastful that you got over it, you moved right on to explain that life goes on, mistakes will be made, and dealing with that fact is simply a part of life.
