YES! WIN! Can't wait for you to start this. I've only watched the new series but I've always wanted to find out more about the original. You, my friend, are awesome.
@thewewguy8t88 Apologies to any Lost fans... but I would be curious to know Chuck's thoughts on the woeful inconsistencies and idiocies that plagued that show as it went on!
To be perfectly honest.. I thought the new Doctor Who was rubbish when it first came out. Now though.. I think it's fucking awesome and look forwards to each season. I think it was just my dislike of Eccleston's Doctor Who that was pushing me off of it, as I love Tennet's portrayal and Smith's is really good, too.
Anyways, I'm hoping these will be like the Red Dwarf reviews that would look at series rather than singular episodes. Plus DW isn't anywhere as bad as Voyager and Enterprise...
I can't get into British sci-fi. The humor escapes me, the plots are weird, and sometimes I can't even understand the actors through the accents. If it weren't for Amy pond's legs I would be totally done with it.
i really loved russel t davies stuff, reminded me of buffy and i think that was a good direction for the show.
though i do think the moffat love in is a bit OTT, people bring up end of season 3 christ when the doctor made a big bang to reset the universe back to what it was and survived cause amy loved him. thought season 5 was great overall, ending was massively disappointing.
Wow. Doctor Who from SFDebris. That's cheered up my day hugely (after an atrocious football match for Carlisle United). Just hope the BBC morons don't manage to screw this one up too. I honestly wonder what they think they're doing sometimes, since the Red Dwarf reviews could only have got more people to watch it.
@yosheeee My first thought on seeing this was "I hope he reviews the good stuff and not the Nu Who rubbish... but then I remembered this was Chuck, and his Voyager reviews are what makes him the best reviewer on YouTube... so the worse the script, the better the review! C'mon, Chuck, Davies' "awesome" episodes are crying out for a good bashing. And yes, he and some of his fellows make Braga look like Shakespeare (ironic, considering how Nu Who treated Shakespeare... on par with JK Rowlings!)
@HeyArnoldsspleen you disgusting sycophant! How can you place fawning allegiance to RTD- an openly gay producer, in the same breath as coming out with sickeningly homophobic abuse like that.
@sadako24 Hearing anyone call Davies a "supreme storyteller" was funny enough... but the same guy hatefully calling others "faggots" was beautifully ironic, wasn't it? :)
@BanjoOz It was indeed- I've come across that Heyarnold arsewipe many times defending RTD's shitty stories and making out he's the 'true' fan for loving the whole RTD rubbish blindly.
@sadako24 Heh. Any totally blinkered fanboy bugs me, honestly... even Robert Holmes wrote a couple of scripts I find hard to get excited about! :) Nobody's perfect (but I still find it hard to see how ANYONE can consider Davies a great WRITER, even if they liked him as producer).
@BanjoOz The problem is a lot of fans never expected the show to come back, or be so popular. And when it did there grew a worrying trend to treat RTD as a deity who'd achieved the impossible, could do no wrong and should never be questioned. Dissociative thinking saw ratings figures overrule story quality. So they'd spin it that RTD wasn't a bad writer, he was an 'innovative genius', breaking the rules of narrative, and that if fans didn't like his stories the problem must lie with the viewers.
With so many doctor who episodes, how will you be deciding which stories to review?
I take it from the trailer you intend to review stories from both the new and old series, but will your decision be based by requests from just donators?
WOOT!!!! YOU THE MAN! Debris you are THE MAN! Doctor who is my third favirote sci-fi, under startrek and the new Battle Star Gellatica. Once again, YOU THE MAN!
@Joekitty001 Oh come on. He'd have to do a montage per episode to describe how each series running plot related to what was happening. Plus he'd be bashing a good series.
I live in the United Kingdom (Britain) and I have to say this show is utter shit. Its on BBC 1 only OAP's and the unemployed watch that channel. I really dislike this show. However the reviews are not made for me but for everyone and I am sure they will be KICK ASS as always.
@Gaius51 If you think the show sucks, then you should really be looking forward to the reviews. Is not sfdebris at his best when he is making fun of the worst episodes?
Brilliant! Yet another reason to love sfdebris!!! Thanks so much, I can't wait to see what you'll do. Live long and prosper, and don't forget, Geromino!
It was completely and utterly inevitable for him to review Doctor Who. I realy enjoyed his Exterminate segment of one of his reviews. As well as his "Sonic Screwdriver" joke in his Star Trek III review.
Oh you brilliant, magnificent man, I've been waiting for you to do this for quite some time - and now you're starting, and on my birthday, too! What a present!
All that's left to say: Fantastic! Brilliant! Allons-y & Geronimo!
I was hoping he'd start doing some Dr. Who reviews for quite awhile. While there are some really ground breaking stories, there are some poor ones as well. Of course in certain cases, such as alot of the Classic Who, the cheap effects may be pardoned considering technology back then and the lack of a budget.
Oh, awesome! But it makes one wonder, how are the review lengths going to stay down? I mean I love Dr. Who, it was the only reason I watched TV between 8-14, but it's about as consistent as George W Bush's mastery of English.
And Nuwho some days just skips into straight magic territory. S3 ending anyone?
Depends which Doctor Who Chuck's going to cover first, and when. Do you plan to do just one review of the whole series, or many of your favourite stories?
@sfdebris That brings up another question though. How do you manage to keep your Star Trek reviews from being pulled down. Does Paramount simply not care or perhaps it's that they realize a review will do them more good than harm?
@Dimbo it's really not sci-fi though, it's more fantasy. how much actual science do you ever hear on the show? If you go into as if he was a wizard instead of a timelord you would be a lot less grumpy right now. stop taking the show so seriously.
@The80sKickAss lol, I know, I get that, like I said, it's classic BRITISH Sci-Fi, which is always more fantastical than actual straight up Sci-Fi, like I said, I take the whole thing in stride, not seriously. But 'Time Lord becomes mystical energy being when everyone thinks Doctor at the same time' is just fucking ridiculous. If you make your character too strong, then it stops being believable and just gets preposterous, even for Doctor Who.
@Dimbo lol so wait let me get this straight, your fine with the alien with two hearts that can regenerate into new people that flies around in his time machine/space ship and always manages to know just how to fix the problem at the last moment. but having a telepathic network help to restore the doctor to his original form is just too much for you?
@The80sKickAss The only thing that was missing from that episode was someone turning to the camera and saying "YOU do believe in the Doctor, don't you? Help him by clapping your hands and believing extra hard!". So yeah, even in what is essentially a kids show, there is a thing as being too sappy. The end of Nu Who series 5 was fairly similar but it worked - because they established and foreshadowed it early on so it didn't come the fuck out of nowhere.
@Ephabia I actually think "audience participation belief-in-fairies" would have only improved that finale, honestly. It couldn't be any worse, and at least I'd have laughed instead of vomited in my mouth.
@The80sKickAss Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. If you spell it out like that, yes then of course it's going to sound stupid, also, I'm complaining about Dr who I realise how stupid that is. But yes, that's entirely what I'm saying. For me, personally, those other factors, 2 hearts, regenerates, travel through time/space, fix everything, are all things that are both established aspects of the character. The telepathic network was literal Deus Ex Machina, that was never foreshadowed.
I mean, if you looked at the Lungbarrow book then, yeah, you could say that makes sense, and if you take the path they were taking the 7th Doctor in you could say that's foreshadowing, or you could take the whole 'it was a paradox because of the altered TARDIS angle if you want, so you can explain it to your liking, and if you enjoyed it fair enough. But I to me it Davies going 'I could just write any old bollocks and make it work...' IMHO
@Dimbo I do agree that I would have rather seen a more clever solution, but I do think Davies set it up pretty well, so it wasn't completely out of left field.
@trlkly Fair enough, it was to me though. It really annoyed me. I personally think he wrote himself into a corner with the Master's victory, and that the only way for him to resolve it was a Deus Ex Machina, and that's what he used.
Also, I'm removing the comment, I really don't want to argue about Doctor Who on YouTube, I'm kind of worried I might break it.
@Dimbo it wasn't god did it, it was explained. it was flimsy but it was explained and hinted at. i don't see how it was any worse than the doctor magically being out of the pandorica with no explanation at all..
I fully blame SFdebris for getting me into Dr. Who. Now I can't get enough of this series.

But I to me it Davies going 'I could just write any old bollocks and make it work...' IMHO

@Dimbo Pretty good to get second best comment without any votes.
And I found it plausible enough.

@trlkly Yeah, how the hell did that happen? I think it's cause everyone keeps replying to it.
Hell, if you found it plausible enough, more power to you, I just thought it was rediculous.

@Dimbo you'll have to refresh my memory?

@Dimbo it wasn't god did it, it was explained. it was flimsy but it was explained and hinted at. i don't see how it was any worse than the doctor magically being out of the pandorica with no explanation at all..

Oh boy. As much as i'm looking forwards to this, I know this won't be pretty towards some of the older episodes.
