  • "biblical truth" oh my.

  • Man, they attach motives to things that truly aren't wrong and fail to recognize the power and magnification of what they may not even be trying to say. I'm sure the true message behind this video is valid, but the way people take will this and misconstrue what they're trying to say is something they didn't think long enough about. They've cheapened many genuine things and caused an ADD generation of people to now look for this stuff only to mock it and miss the true message. What a bummer.

  • @JustinKintzel The bummer is today's churches would rather preach fluffy sermons such as "How to Avoid Stress for the Holidays" than hard hitting Biblical truth and spend tens of thousands on music than to go into all the world. The "church" I left denied supporting a girl for missions but turned around and hired a music "minister" for 50 plus a year. But I guess that will keep the pews full and the money coming in.

  • It's good to be Catholic

  • As a Christian myself, I thoroughly appreciate and laugh HYSTERICALLY at this.

  • This is so spot on ... haha... personally this is the worship and service I perfer... there is always a good message ... this rest is just icing.

  • "The grass withers, the flower fades,

But the word of our God stands forever."

    Isaiah 40:8 (NASB)

  • LOL every church is just like that. ATHEIST FOREVER!

  • @Matthew2400 Not every one.

To be a true athiest one must know ALL things.

  • @character654

What is a "true atheist"? It sounds silly!

  • @DonOfTheInternet One who KNOWS God doesn't exist.

  • @character654 So a gnostic atheist than?

  • @Matthew2400 You will probably be shut off to what I have to say because its basically calling you out for this comment. Oh well here it goes... Your comment is soooooo ignorant! People who go out of their way to try to disprove God in the name of Atheism is the most annoying thing!

  • @Matthew2400 Atheists are the only group on earth defined by what they do not believe in.

  • Two names for you: Nadab and Abihu...not one comment has mentioned what God wants from worship...worship isn't for me in the package I want. Worship is for God the way he wants it/designed it to be. This is sharp satire on how self-absorbed and self-aggrandizing we've become. We've created God in our image, instead of realizing we were creating in His image and for His glory.

  • So true.

Honestly...it's stuff like this that made Sunday morning the hardest day of my week (other than the awesome-experience of teaching Sunday School to Jr. High & HS Students for 6+ years).

Every time i drag myself back to my old church...I chuckle as I remember this video.

Thanks for posting. Not sure if it's making a difference in the church in that it'd make worship-leaders think, encouraging them to be more real (instead of merely "relevant"). relevancy seemed to be more important

  • You could make a parody of any type of worship service. Indeed sometimes what we do in the name of Christ can be shameful. It is somewhat commendable how far some are willing to go to try to be relevant. I think back at how out of touch I thought the church was when I was growing up. I don't think too many even gave a lick about that or about what the younger generation needed. As a worship leader I do my best to mix old and new. Lets be real, its about relationship, not form.

  • @TheMelodiousMike The only thing the church needs to be "in touch" with is the word of God - ALWAYS relevant.

  • @character654

Hey, I want to sell my daughter. What verse was that again about how much I can get for her?

  • @character654 No, that's not it. Sorry.

(In case you didn't get it: you claimed that the bible is "ALWAYS relevant", so I replied sarcasticly with a reply that shows that the bible ISN'T "ALWAYS relevant".)

  • Let's not take ourselves too seriously, regardless our preferences. Surely we can laugh at ourselves... It's all for a great cause. His.

  • here we go again Christians arguing over right and wrong ..opinion vs opinion nobody cares about your opinions , always using them to measure the other person declaring them right or wrong, good or bad ...dont you realize thats the world, thats the knowledge of good and evil...not life..didnt anyone every teach you guys that in every situation there is no right or wrong only truth (life) and everything else is irrelevent

  • I'm a Christian, 19, and I can truly say that I love this video because 1. It just pulls off everything so well- the timing of the humor is genius and everything is just so true of a lot of churches.

    2. because it does actually highlight an issue with today's church. I think some church groups have become too commercial.

Obviously made by people that have experienced this type of church. It's so funny though.

  • CONTEMPORELLEVENT Check out Carter Colon's sermon RUN from Times Square Church

  • I feel like too many Christians get it in their head that sinners are stupid. They think that everyone who wasn't raised in church doesn't know or doesn't care about the love of God and salvation through Jesus. I don't believe most don't know. I think they find it hard to believe people who preach something they don't live. They get tired of being preached at... having someone jam idiology down their throat. All we have to do is listen...

  • The hypocrisy is rampant these days and it's honestly not helping many people. Why do you think so many people are turned off to going to church or talking to Christians?

  • THIS is why I quit going to church three years ago. You see, I grew up in the church and there was a time when THE church (as a nation) had a goal. Then we split into all these segments (like wholly owned subsidiaries or something) that are not unified and it's just sad to see people wasting every Sunday going through a routine that doesn't mean anything. If you aren't going learn, pray, praise and motivate (yourself and others) you are better off sitting at home.

  • The point is it doesn't matter what leads you to Jesus. It makes a mockery of the message Jesus set forth diminnshes His sacrifice. How would you feel if you Grandfather died in Vietnam fighting the war for freedom and someone made a parody move about it. Not so funny then now is that. Satan will use every tool in his belt to keep people away from Truth. Anything other than truth is a lie. Jesus saves. One God, One truth. His truth, not ours.

  • I don't know what the creators of this video intent might be; but the message I see is to make us (the contemporary church) laugh at ourselves a bit, and more importantly examine ourselves , to make sure that in an effort to reach out we don't lose the message and get diluted by our culture

  • I would add just one thing at the end, in that wonderful narrator's voice - "And absolutely No Women (unless of course it's time for the annual women's retreat)."

  • These guys also make kids videos. They are really good. All Christian peeps. I'm glad they did this. Break down religious walls and open up the kingdom upon Your people, Lord!!

    Great job on the video!!!

  • I don't find this offensive at all, because its the truth. Its gotten cliche and predictable, the whole thing seems like one huge formula. I'm waiting for someone to do a video on the black church and other protestant church settings (baptist, lutheran) and maybe catholic as well. Church has gotten so predictable, you can tell time by it. We as a body of believers have to get back to basics, the word, prayer, teaching the good news and evangelism.

  • haha thats funny, but i cant work out if it's trying to insult the church or it's just harmless fun??

  • There's nothing wrong with this style of church. As a student studying to be a Youth Pastor, we were shown this video in chapel this morning by a speaker that was virtually condemning music in the church, though he vehemently denied that was what he was doing. When there is Biblical relevance taught with this style worship, it is an effective means of reaching this generation, who is so attracted to lights and sounds that they'd love the feel of a concert styled worship

  • @kot135 It's the Holy Spirits job to reach people's hearts not some theatrically watered down fluff that boils down to mere entertainment. How many people "reached" with this style of entertainment would continue to attend if the emphasis was on biblical truth? The seats would empty - quickly.

  • @character654 Yeah, because there is no truth in the Bible. The truth is in the spirit of the Lord, not words written by dead men. That's why worship is based on music and ceremony. People all over the world worship the divine in different ways, and the texts they use for guidance is irrelevant.

  • @character654 @character654 Yeah, because there is no truth in the Bible. The truth is in the spirit of the Lord, not words written by dead men. That's why worship is based on music and ceremony. People all over the world worship the divine in different ways, and the texts they use for guidance is irrelevant.

  • @kot135 It really depends on how you look at it. Maybe your church worships this way, and everyone really is worshiping God and giving everything they are to Him during service. Though there are quite a few churches like this one where church is more for one's entertainment or comfort rather than the true purpose of church - God. That's as simple as it should be.

  • The term some are using for this format is called the "attractional" model v.s. the "missional" model. For example the attractional model proponents would say, "Let's attract our neighbors to our church by setting up a Starbucks-style coffee shop in the church lobby." The missional model says, "Go to Starbucks and talk with your neighbors there."

  • @fayette202 Let's go to Starbucks, talk with our neighbors there, then invite them back to a Bible-based church.

Let's not turn church into a theatrical farce.

  • @character654 preach!!!

  • I've come to call it 'Sunday Morning Churchianity.' Christianity is about a relationship with Christ, but religion is about a packaged ritual to get a desired response. this is what is displayed above.

  • @character654--sad but true. I can't comment on other churches, but I know that is *not* true for ours. Excellence in serving God and biblical content are not mutually exclusive, of course, but can become as if they are.

As an "old timer" of culturally relavent movement, I just hate to see it all exaggerated and lumped into one camp as if to say if it's well produced it must be bad.

  • @CaspiansFriend I've seen firsthand in the vast majority of these "culturally relevant" churches people dancing around with their hands in the air during the music, then sleeping through sermons of great biblical truths such as "How to Avoid Stress During the Holidays". Watered-down, luke-warm fluff. I have also seen the "worship" teams fighting over who is the best and/or who is good enough to be on stage with them. I don't recall the apostles worrying about any of that.

  • @character654 Uh, yeah, the apostles definitely argued about who was better! That was the time when Jesus invited a child into their midst and told them to be like a child. Not all "hyped-up" worship is bad! However, I have issue with churches like North Point who only serve milk, have mostly laser shows & fog machines & embrace things God calls abominations! But no church is perfect. Why? Because people are not perfect!

  • @krizrose04 btw, the North Point I am speaking of is NOT the one in GA

  • @character654 Just listen to any of Andy Stanley's sermon series (since he's the one behind North Point and this video) and tell me it's watered down fluff. Are there churches that do that? Of course. Does it apply to the vast majority? I don't think so. North Point, Mosaic, LifeChurch, Fellowship Church, Mars Hill (in Seattle, not Michigan), and a lot of others preach the gospel, not some feel good "fluff." It all boils down to this: methods change, principles don't.

  • @mattlschaffner I listened to "More" - more Dr. Phil psychobabble with a couple references to God and the word Bible mentioned for flavor. I also noticed "more" lavish furnishings and couldn't help but wonder how many needy, suffering people who need the Gospel could have been reached with the money used on that building.

  • extremely well produced video about.... extremely well produced live events (aka the church service). Starting in the 80s our church did all of that---but *not* the way they portray in the video (highly exaggerated). In those days I was thrilled to have a service that I could actually comprehend and grow from. Done for the Lord there is nothing wrong with a well produced service.

  • @CaspiansFriend Unfortunately, the "production/entertainment" aspect has shoved aside most Biblical teaching.

  • extremely well produced video about.... extremely well produced live events (aka the church service). In the 80's and 90s our church did all of that---but *not* the way they portray in the video. In those days I was thrilled to have a service that I could actually look forward to. Done for the Lord there is nothing wrong with a well produced service.

  • I've been going here since the building opened, and it's so true. Very accurate and very funny. Love it.

  • my favorite line is, "you will be lifted high...". LOL gets me everytime!

God can move in mans hearts in a church like this just as easily as he can in a high church or a community church or the in a dish-tank in the back of a max and ermas at midnight in november 2006, Thank you Jesus!

  • What makes this really funny is the church that did it.

  • @jliberty70 a buddy of mine goes to that church, they aren ot like that. they produced the video to make a point of what church should be like. and they did a hilarious Job!

  • Its funny yet sad at the same time.

  • So sad but unfortunately its true.

  • @1lebero yeah i agree. but there is also hope. the spirit convicts through the spoken word. pray for them :)

  • @1lebero yeah i agree. but there is also hope. the spirit convicts through the spoken word. we can pray for them :)

  • It's one reason we left our last church 6 years ago. It got so most of the music had no scripture, Gospel, or doctrine in it. It was mostly aimed at the emotions, and once the service is over and the emotions are gone, there's nothing left to edify. The church was trying to sound like the world to attract the world, and as a result, you couldn't tell it apart from the world (except that the world sounded more professional). Also, why sing when the music is too loud to even hear yourself!

  • its just like my church

  • what there saying is that pepeole think of church as a drill and al ready know what to do and we need to stop that

  • I am so sick of pop-culture churches like this. I'm so glad someone made this video.

  • LOL!!!!!!

  • Muahahaha..."this is the song that everyone knows"....hahahaha -- it was time for someone to say it like it is...

  • "Sunday Mourning".

  • this video was freaking hilarious.

  • ROFL did u see the award at the end?

"Papyrus Font Award", "Informally Dressed Pastor Award", and "Edgy T-Shirt Award"

    LOL

  • Don;t forget this is a playful video not a mocking one. This church who made it is a contemporary church thatI'm familiar with. It's as offensive as Jeff Foxworthy doing "You might be a Redneck" joke. Christians can have a litle fun at thier own expense as well.... =)

  • I love this!!! Hilarious. Sad but true.

  • SO TRUE!!! Haha! :D Loved the "you know it's cool cause you heard it on the radio!"

  • This is so much like our church. The only difference is that our pastor doesn't teach like that.

  • Hysterical, painful, and true!

  • Its real and relevant.

  • This how my church is down to T just like this! It seem like my church is a concert every time I go every Sunday!

  • What is the point of this trailer?

  • A real eye-opener...I wish more vids like this could be made, for the dual purpose of entertaining and revealing the issues of the time.

  • Well what I wonder is if this movie is to make fun of Christians or try to make a point about modern Christians.

  • This is a very funny video. Just as Monty Python occasionally took the mickey out of high Anglican liturgy, it's good to see some folks poking gentle fun at the unseen liturgy of contemporary Christian worship. All organizations have patterns, including churches, but the reason this works is that there are a still a number of "non-liturgical" churches who try to claim they really are "non-liturgical". LoL...

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • I thought this video was hilarious because it pokes fun at the formula very well.

But If they're trying to make some church vs church statement, eh, lame.

Everything can be made to look formulaic if it's framed a specific way. And the contemporary church with it's contemporary music, guitars and assumed hipness is just as "formulaic" as the traditional church with it's hymns, wooden pews and suits and ties.

  • @aamiha73 That very well may be the point. Many Churches think they escape formula and whatnot because they are being "real" and don't sit down and go through liturgical phrases, leading them to possibly condemn others who are "religious."

  • Comment removed

  • well i gotta say it seems to be pretty much right on point... People make fun of me for being Catholic.

  • So what's next? This video's existence is an indicator that it's past it's shelf life and those on the "cutting edge" are moving on. What will they be moving on to? I might want to be a part of that 'cause this format bores me.

  • why did this make me laugh so much?

  • @mtaylor621 Probably because there is so much truth in it.

  • Funny

  • This is AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS!!!! LOVE IT!!! :)

  • i've been to a lot of churches aimed at youths that embody a lot of these stereotypes and you couldn't be this accurate without spending a lot of time as a part of a church like that, sure it's mocking but they're not aiming it at christianity just at the presentation that so many campus churches use

  • I prefer not to think of it as mocking at all. It is a humorous depiction of what can happen when a church becomes more concerned following someone else's model of success rather than taking the time to prayerfully seek what God has called them to. A church that worries to much about being "relevant" can get caught up in all the trappings of showmanship.

  • Painful to think about how the science of church growth has consumed so many. As a pastor I have to choose to be a student rather than a critic so I can grow from things like this. For those who foster the deconstructive ideas I hope you can learn to be known by what you stand fore more than what you stand against. Standing for Jesus and loving his imperfect bride is always a win.

  • genius

  • It's not mocking! It's is giving a very truthful depiction of how we have so missed the point of what church is all about and how modern church has so commercialized church! Very good video guys and hope it opens more folks eyes and helps us get back to the point!

  • I just don't think it is such a good idea to mock your brethren in Christ.

  • Nah, its mocking the cookie cutter "Contemporary" service that can be found at so many churches, unfortunately...
