I woke up this morning with this song in my head....haven't heard it in over a decade...not sure how it got in my head. One little bit of trivia about Alan Parsons.....They were the engineers on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon Album!
When I first heard this song several years ago, I felt certain that it was some fantastically great Beach Boys song that I had somehow missed. Boy was I shocked when I learned that it was Alan Parsons! Then again, these guys were musical geniuses, and it eventually made sense to me. This song is a rock gem!
I love this song, it was at the top of the charts in 74 I believe. They played it all the time along with 'Back Home Again' by Henry John Deuchendorf. heh heh... This song's chords on the main stanzas go round and round like a rondo. Only two chords. Genius. It sounds like more because of the melody.
its nice to see the us criticising the uk troops in afghanistan, with the illustrius career the us have, vietnam, korea, duh, ah yes they sent 30000 troops into, oh yes grenada and panama, big win there then, nice for part timers
Great song but iTunes is crap if you don't support FLAC you hate music or you're upset that your lame AAC format sounds like utter shit compared to FLAC. Go with Songbird.
yet again i Sincerely apologize to some of the CLEVER and well educated and open minded american people, all that i said wasn't aimed on you...so if you know you're okay than don't take it onto yourself...its just some things for those egoistic american people to think about...
Alan Parsons has got to be one of the most under-rated British musicians/producers EVER. His back catalogue is simply astounding. Love this song. It was actually released as a single in 1984 but sank virtually without trace - no justice.
@689321546 Not funny, but sarcastic. You're the one who blamed his misspellings on his service in Vietnam and his lack of a hand. Lame excuse for misspelling.
@Davccelion Nope. He's the one who connected his bad spelling to his military service and his missing hand. Not I. It was a damned poor excuse and I simply was being sarcastic about his "tear-jerking" excuse. He probably served honorably in the military and for that I am grateful. But his bad spelling? It's his fault, not his hand's.
@belial420 Let him show us respect by not blaming his spelling mistakes on his missing hand and his Vietnam service. Do you think he can live a fulfilling life otherwise?
@themoshmenace why does he need to show YOU or any of US respect...did we loose hand during war? did we do something to deserve it? no...but let me guess...we just sit here, acting mean and important (obviously more important, than this poor person) and criticize him for SMALL things we could have just not noticed...
@themoshmenace i see its true what others say about american nation...you're uneducated, selfish, ignorant and mean nation, which has no past no future, no culture and morality...enough said... learn to respect other people and accept them the way they actually are! and get over someone misspellings...
@belial420 He's the one who tried to blame his poor education on his missing hand. Now that's one helluva excuse. I commend him for serving his country gallantly and unselfishly. But I don't accept his degrading excuse. He's better than that.
I still love this song. APP is still quantum in this musician's eyes. Thanks, DreamOnAerosmith for your beautiful video to accompany this amazing, classic, timeless song. Oh yeah! I'm a fan! -dp
I have to disagree with some people here. APP was huge in the late 70s and early 80s in Europe. So, no, this awesome band was not underrated. When they came out they were embraced (including myself who was 19 at the time) . Their sound, but especially their lyrics attracted many fans who are still devoted to them. Yes, sadly they are not well known here in the USA...it's a pity, but I play their music, in my car and at home. It brings back so many memories! Thanks for posting.
They didn't have too many Top 40 hits in the US, only "Eye in the Sky" made the Top 10 peaking at #3 on the Billboard charts in the Fall of 1982, I wish they were better known in the States
Can't decide if i like this or "games people play" better. They both are amazing tunes and Alan Parsons Projects is a phenomenal and underrated band. Thank you for posting
I remember seeing the video to this song when it came out on VH1 back in the mid 1980s and then went over 10 years without hearing this song, I remember our Satellite Feed playing this song at my job back in the early 2000s
To me they are cause not many people I know talk about them and you barely hear their songs on the radio, I'm in my late 20s and not many people my age have heard of them
A fantastic track by a really great band. The saxophone is brilliant. Some stuff from the eighties is ok, this is an example, the rest unfortunately.....CRAP.
Alan Parsons served tea to Paul McCartney and John Lennon at Abby road studios. He was an assistant engineer for the beatles and then a full-blown engineer with Paul McCartney on McCartney, Wings Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway.George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album both as an assistant and as a mix engineer. The Hollies and then Pink Floyd, the British band Pilot(Magic),Alan made three albums with Al Stewart, spawning the hit singles Year Of The Cat and Time Passages.
Alan Parsons had a big hand in Floyd's "Time song". I think he thought there was more than one way to do it again. Both Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons are excellent bands. Glad to hear both sides of the title TIME.
Austin Powers is the dorky part. The movie is funny like you said but something from another band would fit the movie better. Like the end theme song to Benny Hill. Just kidding ya. Listen to this song closer it will grow on you.

I just recently learned that Alan Parsons also wrote and produced Al Stewart's
"Time Passages" from 1978.
I was never a HUGE Alan Parsons fan,
but I may now go and revisit that...
