I remember watching this with my grandparents at their house and when this song was sung all i could hear was the wailing from my nan. This song brought out alot of emotions especially for the old ppl. I was 6 at the time and remember my koro had dubbed it on the video. We always use to watch it over and over. Watching it now and understanding its true meanings makes me proud of being a maori. MAURI ORA!!!!!!

This was a TV presentation shown back in 1986? 1988? if memory serves me correctly, called Te Maori - The Return Home, most kiwis recorded this on their videos at the time and probably have copies like this somewhere, I know I do but mine is damaged from old age and mould. There were also other performers like Bunny Walters (singing a song called Tekoteko), Cara Pewhairangi, and Dalvanius and Patea Maori Club to name a few. It was a great show and I hope TVNZ release it on DVD one day.
no matter how many times i watch this clip it still bring back tears it really shows how powerful our culture really is very meaningful KIA KAHA from melb.... AUS
